I'd move the axles back about 2 feet especially since youre swapping axles anyway. Cool setup! when I hear "crawler hauler" I generally think of a vehicle that allows you to haul without a trailer like a school bus that's been flat decked or a flatbed truck with ramps. I kind of want to find a manual trans diesel school bus and convert it

I'm considering it, my only concern is the neck wasn't designed for that so I would have to beef it up, plus the tires need cut outs to flex up into. It would be a ton of work. I think first I'm going to try it in this configuration and see how it does.

They make a real nice beefy (and textured) top coat for older wood decks. You use their cleaner to prep the old wood (let that dry of course) and then roll down the new coating. It's extremely durable -- looks kinda' like Rhino lining when it's down = not as durable as that stuff but a *lot* cheaper -- available at Homely Depot or Lowe's. :)

I built a 32' hauler years ago. I put the axles on a carriage. I could slide the axles clear to the front and the rear of the trailer would set on the ground, no ramps needed. It also let me position axles under the load as needed. The axles would lock in place or move by setting the trailer brakes and moving the truck forward or back while still connected to trailer.
I also built an expandable trailer. I still have. Slides in to as short as 20' or slides out to 34'. The rear beavertails down, so with a small block, no ramps needed.
I enjoy your channel because it's simple, like most shade tree weekend mechanics. I'm getting to old, so mostly enjoy watching others. Thanks, Mark from Oregon

Definitely got a project thats going to keep you busy for a while. I would highly recommend moving the axle rearward roughly 3' . Its going to be a tail dragger with 5k behind the axles

Yeah, I've been thinking about that! I'm going to try it as is and see how she does. I dont mind scooting the rug all of the way forward. Plus, all of my gear will be in front under the camper too.

Cool set up, get you some tool boxes to mount under the raised sides of the camper to store stuff in.

is this a 7 ft wide trailer? I want to do the same with my truck camper and would like to back up the trailer under the camper without having to remove the jacks.

    • @FortuneOffRoad

It's under 7 feet wide. I can keep the Jack's on, too. You can also get the extensions for your camper.
