May be the weather is improving, but I have noticed in the last week of April amazing clear blue sky on the west of scotland, which normally sees high level trans atlantic flights.
since 2012 have travelled on BNLN, BNLR, BNLW, CIVA, CIVB, CIVC, CIVD, CIVE, CIVJ, CIVK, CIVL, CIVM, CIVN, CIVP, CIVT, CIVU and feel very lucky to have done so lol
This is a sad situation. 3 BA 747s in the air now en route now to Teruel, Spain for “long term storage” and 2 more arrived earlier today.... G-CIVA; G-CIVR; G-CIVS; G-CIVT and G-CIVX 🥺

BA is the 747. Gutted to see them go. Always remember as a kid plane spotting at T4 seeing the dozens of 747 -100 -200 -400. And to top it off Speedbird Concorde 1.

Simon Carter Ah - I have done the same in the past too. I used to work for BA and flew on the 757s at least once a week - but didn’t bother to take their reg number very often. Yeah the recently painted it on December, it used to have paint wearing off everywhere , i remember working with it after the paint was done and it was beautiful 😍
I was on G-CIVZ on 13th Feb this year, besides the delay, a really good flight- such a shame that BA are retiring all of their 747s, they really are so beautiful and special.

Amazing aircraft, excellent documentary about 747 but is really that the complete British Airways 747 fleet? I flew on November 1990 and December 1992 to Sao Paulo and Bangkok on 747-400, where are they ?

It was intended to be a snapshot of the fleet as at March 2020 just as COVID grounded the then entire fleet so only shows those aircraft as at that moment in time. If I ran an airline and COVID-19 wasn’t a thing, I’d buy out all these 747s and save them all from retirement. I say I wouldn’t do it because of COVID-19 because you gotta remember that basically every airline is suffering because of the pandemic, and it would be a huge loss for my hypothetical airline to spend billions buying some outdated aircraft in a time period where efficiency is favoured over older and sadly more iconic planes.

Why can’t they just put more fuel efficient engines onto a 747-400. This coronavirus has really made a complete mess of the transport industry and it’s awful these beautiful machines are now being thrown on the scrap heap because of it. Such a sad sight to see!
although i agree with you, its not just the engines that lead to the retirement, since these aircrafts are already becoming old and these aircrafts have a massive capacity yet there isnt a demand to travel in large quantities due to covid, most airlines dont find a need to operate them during this time.
Heathrow Aircraft - past and present. I think most of them are in Frankfurt, but also some of them in the new airport in Berlin. On another note the 19 747-8’s they have will definitely survive this crisis(newer than their A330, A340-600, A340-300, A330-300 and 747-400’s), and I don’t think LH will retire their 13 747-400’s until their 777-9x’s get delivered but who knows.

Am I the only one who noticed how the "oneworld" on G-CIVZ looks oddly bolder than on other "oneworld" 747s?

Why can’t they just put more fuel efficient engines onto a 747-400. This coronavirus has really made a complete mess of the transport industry and it’s awful these beautiful machines are now being thrown on the scrap heap because of it. Such a sad sight to see!
although i agree with you, its not just the engines that lead to the retirement, since these aircrafts are already becoming old and these aircrafts have a massive capacity yet there isnt a demand to travel in large quantities due to covid, most airlines dont find a need to operate them during this time.
BA isn’t the 747 king anymore. Lufthansa is (they’ve got 32 of them)

Heathrow Aircraft - past and present. I think most of them are in Frankfurt, but also some of them in the new airport in Berlin. On another note the 19 747-8’s they have will definitely survive this crisis(newer than their A330, A340-600, A340-300, A330-300 and 747-400’s), and I don’t think LH will retire their 13 747-400’s until their 777-9x’s get delivered but who knows.

KordesPL Hi i don’t think that registration was assigned to the BA 747 fleet. There is G-BYGD which is featured in my film though 👍
