@@patrickmullane30 tried the same with the Flashman series but theyre just too hectic. Hornblower too stilted and old-fashioned. Gone through Le Carre too many times now. Can recommend James Clavell but v poor for audiobooks. It takes a good reader like here.
@@Creeper-m9 i've not, he was my little bro's choice when he was a young teen and that put me off, i assumed it was for younger readers, kind of a 'boy's own action adventure' series based in SA. I guess Sharpe is that version set in the Empire, a bit more recognizable to me. Thanks for your suggestion though.
Thanx for this. My favourite story ever. I always wondered what Sharpe did at Rolica, Vimeiro and Lugo; perhaps it's best left to the imagination. I bought a pair of bottoms from H&M that were dark green with red stripes down the outer seam (not taken from the body of dead French colonel!)
Much like the "moss" poultice, the maggot trick has a few catches. Region, type, and season will change how useful the trick is or even make your situation worse. Even if it is a joke, the more you know and all that.
The background noise? It may have been taken from a cassette tape version of the audio book, given when the book came out. All the audiobook tapes i’ve listened to seem to have a similar thing going on, my dad used to have a lot of audio books for the car, usually LotR or Pratchett. Music makes him fall asleep while he’s driving for some reason.
Some folk binge on Netflix. I'm binging on Sharpe.
My third binge and reading too❤

@ definitely not a little boys version. You’re missing out and so easy to listen to the audio books here
The description of Sharpe loading and firing the smooth bore musket for 5 shots is incredible.
Brilliantly read and the reader has serious talent, thank you for the upload.

Gonna have to try this maggot technique next time I get a nasty sword cut
Maggots & leeches are still in use today, in some Western settings.

captain sharpe... damn i almost feel his pride. amazingly read, accents, voices and inflections all perfect.
My Great Uncle told almost the same story about his platoon and the wine happening in 1943 Italy
@melbea03 my gt grandfather served in the Royal navy in Ww2, he told of stirring puke into the stew!!!
These stories inspire me! Thanks for the great work you’ve done posting the Sharpe books!
This book is amazing thank you
The odd thing is that there exist men like this- most die in the effort but it doesn’t diminish heart and courage
Welsley making Sharpe a captain was such a serotonin booooosstt. Yeesssss
You spoiled it for me, but I forgive you.
Was waiting for him to rise up in the ranks
Dying with a sword in his hand, now that’s soldiering. You’re going into a warriors heaven Scotsman. Uthred of Bebbanberg “Warriors of the Storm”.
meet you there
The scene in Welesley's office was such a pleasure.
lol i literally just heard that bit, it really was a good feeling hearing it, finally sharpe getting his kudos and can feel the pride in the moment.
WARNING SPOILERS:::
WOOOOO CAPTAIN SHARP!!!!!🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉 WOOOOOOO
Enjoying this a third time!
Same @joncash49
Thanks for the upload
Great Irish accent 😀
Not Harper's it's the harsh accent of Belfast not the soft drawl of Donegal.
Great story and narration, but, the long, silent lag between parts is maddening.
Ut simply builds up the anticipation and excitement.
Nah . 15 seconds builds expectations , several minutes is aggravating .

I think it's an "echo". Of the reader.
Shame about the quality, at least when I downloaded. There was a continual ticking on the recording.
I was wrong...it goes away.
Shame about the large pauses as well
Why is there so many pauses between sides?
For the drama
He needs a break. 4 and a half hours speaking is tiresome. 😅
Just about enough time to make a brew
The delays bw chapters are ridiculous. Can't complain too much because it's free but none of the others---1-7---have this problem.
Indeed but digitising and editing 20 ten hour plus audio books just have been a mammoth task
