- I would LOVE to narrate The Hobbit, though maybe not on The Classic Ghost Stories Podcast, but the copyright is so tight, because so many people stand to make so much money, that I don't dare.
I can get away with the first page though, so here it is as a piece of fun. Treat it as fun only.

i did it because I like it . i think if i read the whole book the copyright police would come for me Exclusive worldwide rights to motion picture, merchandising, stage and other rights in certain literary works of J. R. R. Tolkien including The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings were sold by Tolkien himself to United Artists in 1969, reportedly for a very small amount, and are currently owned by Middle-earth Enterprises ...
@@ClassicGhost *Facepalm* Of course they would. Tolkien's work is so embedded in the culture that it's easy (or at least it is for me, lol) to forget it's still copyrighted. Sigh. Ah well, I guess I'll just have to imagine you narrating it lol.
Do you know how much it would cost to get permission to read the entire book? Maybe we (the listeners) could contribute and raise the permission fee.

I can’t count the number of times I have read The Hobbit as well as the trilogy. I read the when I was a kid and over the years. I’m an old lady now and I will probably read them all again.
Are you familiar with The Gormenghast Trilogy? I’ll read that again before I die. Some things are just worth reading again and again.

The first time I read the hobbit I wanted so bad to live in a hobbit house. Tucked into the side of a hill with with big round windows and doors and flickering candles to light up the dark spots. Many decades later I still wish it. ❤
