  • Hello, my lovely Flosstube Friends!
    This is part five of the cross stitch full coverage for beginners mini-series.
    This series will be a step by step guide looking at all you need to know to get started on learning to cross stitch on a full-coverage design.
    Here in part five, we will be doing a step by step tutorial looking at how to put the first stitches into your new start on a full-coverage design and learning how to start your thread using a loop start method with 2 strands of floss.
    There will be a follow-up video after this one (Part 5A) where we will continue working further on with the parked threads and working with a single strand of floss for those using a higher count evenweave.
    I look forward to seeing you again in part 5A.

    I have to say I've been watching these tutorials and one thing has blown my mind. I've been stitching since I was 12 (I'm 42 now). You pulling one thread from the skein looped through that way has changed my life. Why didn't I ever think of that?! Thank you, I mean THANK YOU!! My stitching life is forever changed thanks to you showing this. I know you didn't create this but I never would have known about it if not for you!

      Lisa K That was my takeaway as well, lol. I’m working on a HAED, “Beloved”, full size not a mini. I also have my floss loaded on a Pako thread holder, but haven’t pulled out an individual thread from a skein in the manner Teresa did. That’s the beauty of tutorials...everyone has their own tips and way of doing things. We can always learn something from each other!

    Again, this old dog is learning new tricks. I would have had to take the thread off of the holder and take a thread and then put it back on the holder. How wonderful!!!

    You, my dear, are doing a simply wonderful thing for those who know nothing about stitching. When I started, I wanted a teacher so much. You are going to help countless beginners get their bearings so that they can hit the ground running rather than spending many hours trying to find the answers to their questions. I love you for this. : ) ❤

      Just like to say a massive thankyou for showing how to do this parking method,I've started stitching about 20years ago but gave up on a project as it was so difficult to read the chart because it was so confetti heavy,now I have dug it out got the stitchy bug back and making progress,over the years I've thought I won't be beaten by it and done many much simpler charts which I have enjoyed but always wanted to finish this full coverage one so thankyou,thankyou for taking the time to show us how to overcome something I never thought I would ever finish ❤ forgot to say found you through the stitching bunny podcast and I'm really enjoying following your journey from the very start xx

    Haven't stitched in 25 years but with your help, I am going to try again. I appreciate how complete you are. I have watched all five videos and most of them twice---while I made notes. :-} I've ordered my fabric, qsnaps etc. Can't wait to get started. Thanks you for all your time and effort! Wouldn't be surprised if these become the go to tutorials! Now to watch more of your videos.

    OMG... I have never tried pulling one thread from the skein while it's still on the holder like that!!! I usually have all my threads on the Pako thread organizer, but occasionally the threads come in a kit, they're on a card and looped on. What a time saver. I can't wait to try it later. So funny. Your "spaceship" is my "Saturn". Thank you for another GREAT video!

    This is such a detailed and well explained series. I greatly appreciate all of the time, effort, and patience that you have put into these videos. Now I can see the benefit of working in columns one square at a time. I have a full coverage project that I have been hesitant to start, but I think that you are giving me all of the mental tools that I need to do so.
    If you don't mind, I would appreciate you showing how you start with one thread since you cannot use the loop method. Thank you so very much!

    I remember when you started stitching, your sweet husband got you all set up soon after you got the stitching bug. And that bug was all over you!. You were immersed in this craft and like so many of us, you used stitching to de-stress. I’ve been fond of you as a stitcher from the start and it’s really easy to be fond of you as a person. ❤️

    This has been the most helpful video that I have watched about full coverage and parking!! I have looked high and low and yours was the most informative, down to earth, easy to understand than all others! Thank you! You were a God-send for me for I have several pieces that are full coverage and yet didn’t want to get lost by doing it in the center as I’ve done with my smaller projects.

    When I got my HAED, (Ruth Warrick Goes To Work - Bill Dodge), the pattern said 2X1 over 25 count. I started doing it and the stitches looked really tight. I didn't like it at all. Then I decided to do 2 threads, tent stitch and it went a lot better. I found the coverage to be adequate. Next time, though, I will try 1X1 full cross on 25 count and see how I like it. Thanks for you video. Even though I am no longer a 100% novice, I still enjoyed watching your series and even learned a couple of things I didn't know. Don't get me wrong, I have only been stitching for a year. A future idea (you don't have to do this) is maybe you can show us how to stitch on linen. For example, if I bought a Mirabilia which is stitched on linen, how do you stitch on it. 2X2 with full x? What count? This I don't know. It will be my next project.

    I want to thank you for teaching me how to do counted cross stitch and all that comes with it. You are an amazing teacher and the work you do is so incredibly beautiful. I subscribed yesterday. Within the next 2 months I hope to order and begin my first one. I've got a 5'x2.5' diamond painting, a printed cross stitch with about 40% left and a small beaded cross stitch near done. I can then start this. Really, truly excited about it. I'm thankful I found you!

    I love this series. I'm a new cross stitcher and I tried those beginner kits and i just didn't feel smart enough cause i couldn't figure it out. I did my first thing as a 'freehand' to practice before buying a pattern. I like Etsy because I have OCD and autism and i find being able to bring the PDF up on my tablet and follow that way easier as I can zoom in as much as I need. Thank you for creating this series, its answered a lot of questions I had especially on bigger projects. I also find your accent very pleasant and clear. Thanks for doing this!

    I've really enjoyed watching this series so far. I'm not new to stitching or to full coverage. I am working on two HAEDs currently. I just really like watching you. I understand that most people don't like 25 ct 2x1, but I'm one of the crazies that doesn't mind. I'm working on an 81 page pattern (only on page 6). You are definitely making me rethink my storage. Man, the way you slide the thread right out of there is mind blowing. My biggest issue would be how to store it once the project is complete. Now you have all these cut strands. I can see the Annie's Keepers being a solution, but it seems like they would be difficult to use during the project. What do you do about multiple projects? I have to think about this some more. Anyway, I meant to say that you are an incredible teacher. You have put so much time and energy into this. Looking forward to seeing more. My daughter and I filmed our first floss tube this week and I have a whole new appreciation now for what you do and how easy you make it look.

    I have so many HAED charts...sigh...that I’ve bought over the last 3 years. And, have been frozen to start any one of them. Your videos for beginners have been sooo enjoyable and informative that I’m feeling “warmed-up” with motivation. =D Confession, though, I don’t like working with anything smaller than 16c. But, I will be starting with something REALLY small, like a Face of Fairy or a QS. And, so these are smaller to begin with and on 16c, they won’t turn out to be as large a living room carpet LOL. =P. Most sincerely! Thank YOU!!! I know this takes lots of time and effort outside of the actual time that your videos take...and I, for one, REALLY appreciate your sharing your time and knowledge. =D. =D

I use KnitCompanion for my PDFs. I use one color for finished stitches (haven’t done full coverage yet, very new stitcher) and love the idea of a second color for parked. Very easy. Thank you. This series was AH-mazing! I’ve been cross stitching on and off for over 30 years - mostly off until recently, as health issues have given me more time.
    I’ve always loved HAEDs (first found them as Diamond paintings), but was way too intimidated.
    Recently a young floss tubers videos got me really excited, but I was still nervous and confused. I was like, how on earth do you know which parked blue is which (of the 15 different) blue?
    Watched this and BOOM. You just made it click and now I’m like, well duh!
    Already purchased my first chart following your recommendation - a story keeper a few days ago, have all the floss and just waiting for the fabric to arrive … I’m bad at waiting, lol. And then … as I got online to dream over my wish list, I saw they are having a half off sale … so I had no choice. I had to buy another.
    I am sending a heartfelt thank you for the time you put into this series, Teresa. You did more than just help me learn something fun, creative and beautiful. I was recently diagnosed with cancer (again). This one is incurable (but not immediately terminal … so I WILL finish all the things, lol), and I have an upcoming surgery next week. I plan to stitch to my heart’s content on HAEDs now that I know how!
    Thank you my sweet stitchy friend from ‘across the pond.’ Lol.

I had no idea how to figure that out I bought this big big pattern from amazon with tons of pages i was like what in the world 😖😖 I have a question can I start in the center? And if yes how do I choose the next page ? Thank u sooo much im a beginner intermediate

      Hey Jann! Thank you for your lovely comment. Of course you can start in the middle - but it might be a little more tricky to work out which page goes where. That said If you decide on the middle and can workout the page that is the middle, stitch that page and then pick a page directly next to the middle page and work outwards from there - hope that makes sense. Obviously if you are looking to use the parking method this might not work due to the parking of the threads.

    Thank you for all your help. I have just finished my beginners kit owl, and sent off for a next kit. It has arrived with NO GRIDS, just a cross at the staring point. Do any of your films help us with that? I am a bit daunted. Fortunately is is not large!

      Hi Susan, sorry no I don't grid my own fabric. I personally would buy the same count gridded fabric and use that instead.

    Can you please tell me the name of the lap/table stand you are using for your QSnap frames? I am looking for something more portable to hold a QSnap. Thank you.

      Ooops..., never mind...I just found it. It is featured in your Flosstube #65 episode from Jan. 5. Your series of videos is so helpful. Going to attempt my first full coverage with parking. Thank you for all the information. I finally understand what it is all about and how it is working.

      Hi Gloria! I think you are referring to the Qsnap frame? Amazon do them if you type in the search Qsnap or here is a link amzn.to/30vyWNY

    Just found your video's...why do park stitches rather than finishing the stitch in the next block? How long are your threads

    • @TeresaLittleStitcher
      @TeresaLittleStitcher  2 роки тому

      it allows me to travel the thread and spend less time keep starting and finishing threads.

      You can try rolling the excess fabric up in a grime guard - or use clips of some kind?

    How do you avoid banding when working in rows like this?

    • @TeresaLittleStitcher
      @TeresaLittleStitcher  4 роки тому

      As I do blocks and not long rows I find I don’t get lines in the project. So I stagger the 10x10 blocks and I have never had a line appear by doing it this way.

      @TeresaLittleStitcher  4 роки тому +1

      Hey Colin, Sorry to hear the app is not working for you. As I am an apple user and not android I am afraid I only know of a few. There is a new android app that everyone is going crazy about called pattern keeper - but personally, don't know much about it. The other option is Crafty Lisa demo of EZPDF ua-cam.com/video/_dG2Kpouowk/v-deo.html That might be an option - Hope this helps :0

    Teresa, I have a question... I've tried the way you showed to start a single strand, but I'm running into an issue: Every time I need to come up in a stitch that runs in the same hole, the starter stitch comes undone. How do I prevent this? Am I doing something wrong?

    • @TeresaLittleStitcher
      @TeresaLittleStitcher  4 роки тому

      Hi Beth, Whe I do the single stand start stitch and come up the start hole and down the hole with the tail stitching our do not pull hard you just wan the thread to lay down on the fabric. then when you do the second leg of the x make sure to give it a little tug to make sure it is secure before moving to your next stitch - hope this helps.

    • @Stitching_Crap
      @Stitching_Crap 4 роки тому

      @@TeresaLittleStitcher I am actually not having a problem with that part. I'm having trouble with the stitch coming undone if I have a different stitch that comes up the hole in which that hanging tail sits. Is there a way to avoid that?
