    Times are hard. They cut my hours when my home and car insurance went up. Plus other inflation on top of that 🤦🏾‍♂️

      Unfortunately, high costs are making it increasingly hard for many of us, especially for people who have children and those who depend on Social Security to make ends meet. My suggestion is start a side hustle. Unfortunately that suggestion usually falls on deaf ears. If you want a better financial future take control of your life by starting a side hustle. Check out and subscribe to Side Hustle Rules, my other UA-cam channel, for tips.

    What's really strange is when they give hours to someone who is horrible at the job. But cut everyone else's. Like, what the heck????

      When that happens I usually find it's because that person is a friend or favorite.

      Exactly what my case is now. Cutting my hours into almost half and yet getting another person in our department full-time! When I was told, good thing I was able keep my composure and didn't kick and scream!😅😂

    My boss doesn’t even tell me before she cuts my hours.
    She just randomly cuts my hours by 75% to 90% and I don’t know until she sends the schedule out for the week.
    It tends to happen right after she gets mad at me for calling in sick or being about 5-10 minutes late a day or two in a row.
    But she only ever does this to me- and every once in a while, to one of my other coworkers.
    I think she knows that I’m one of the few people who works there just because I want to and not because I need to.
    So it’s easier for her to cut my hours without feeling bad.
    The really frustrating thing, though, is that she will cut my hours back drastically, but then the supervisor always ends up, calling me in on those days anyway. My boss is rarely ever actually on site.
    She has no idea what’s going on there. She makes weird mistakes on the schedule all the time so it’s hard to know sometimes if it’s purposeful or not. What’s really annoying though as when I ask her about it, she gives me some random excuse that doesn’t really make sense or she just ignores the question.
    Aside from this big issue, I absolutely love my place of work

      Well, that is a big issue but I'm glad you don't let that get in the way of enjoying the job.

    I work in a high end supermarket as a cashier. I've been there 6 years. I was getting three 8.5 hours per week for a few years. Lately, I scaled back one of my 3 shift to a 5 hour shift. The past few months, my two remaining 8.5 hour shifts, half hour was taken off, so now I make less. My new schedule shows one 8.5 hour shift, and two 5 hour shifts. The store I work at is not struggling. They've hired 3 new cashiers in the past month, yet our hours are being cut. Four of us that have been there for several years and are top performers. Can they do what they're doing legally. Food prices have gone up quite a bit and now were finding ourselves struggling to buy food we can afford.

      @Over50tv  Рік тому

      Sorry to hear this. As long as employers don't 'overtly' discriminate they can do pretty much what they want when it comes to assigning hours. It's not fair, but it's the reality.

    I bust my but at this job, never call out, I come in and do my work to a T, and even pick up shifts when their star worker (even though it’s unearned) calls out. I almost never leave on time because they ask me for more and I’m always saying yes.
    Now that there’s context I got a raise near the end of last year at my job and I only work part time of 20 hours a week. But since the moment I got that raise my hours have been dropping. 18,16 12 and now 8 a week. I asked if I’m doing anything wrong and they answer no. They tell me that they are low on hours but their star person who always calls out in the past now has 30+ hours a week. I’ve been there the longest and only second too her. They are telling me that hours will return in July. And I’m afraid to leave because this exact thing happened the first time I was employed at another store years ago and I hated the other jobs I went too. But I simply can not wait until July to have a consistent paycheck coming in
    What advise do you have? Because I don’t know what to do? Should I leave?

    • @Over50tv
      @Over50tv  Рік тому +9

      It’s natural to fear the unknown. So it’s understandable that you are afraid to leave this job. But, the question is can you afford to stay? It doesn’t sound like you can. The bill collectors aren’t going to wait till July and neither should you.

    We had a small meeting with the big boss man and hr folks and people of different departments to address concerns on any topic. I brought up the issue i had of when I got sick and wanted to take short term disability. Well when you apply for short-term disability the company stops your pay. Long story short, my doctor did not want to put me on short-term after 2 weeks I was off already with no pay. So I told the doctor to release me back to work even though I wasn't really ready. I had to work like 3 weeks straight without any days off trying to catch up on my bills. I even had to use up all my vacation time while I was out. After this meeting I noticed I been only working 8hrs weeks. I'm sure that's what happened.

    • @Over50tv
      @Over50tv  8 місяців тому

      I've never understood why good employees aren't paid when they go on short term disability, starting day one. Large companies certainly can afford it. It benefits the entire organization when the employee comes back healthy and is ready to be fully productive.

I worked in deli but indidnt want to work there anymore or move to other departments. I wanted to put my two weeks in notice. This is ridiculous. I've been there for 2 years. They should appreciate someone who's never missed work. It's sad and ridiculous that they don't. It's doubtful they'll find a replacement as conscientious as you are. Another thing, please find another job before you quit. Don't let the frustration hurt your finances. Also, please check out Over50tv, my new website. If the supervisors can lower the employees hours. Can they receive a bonus for that? I noticed some will be on top of the workers hours. And some not.

    • @Over50tv
      @Over50tv  11 місяців тому +1

      Yes, they can receive a bonus because they are reducing costs. They do this even if having less workers means the customer suffers.

      at least here, most labor laws are local laws outside the base fed labor laws...

    I wasn't told. Boss's wife just cut my hours while everyone else's were fine. I suspect favoritism since a former employee she's buddies with came back and had plenty of hours. I highly doubt I did anything wrong. I worked there for years.
    I quit. I'm not playing games with anyone. It's sad grown adults who are supposed to be professional behave this way.

      I'm sorry this happened. I learned the hard way not to depend on a company playing fair. When I was in high school my best friend's dad was fired from his job when he was two years away from retirement. He said the company fired him because of his age and I don't doubt it. I never forgot that episode in my life. It's one of the inspirations for this channel and his getting fired is why I resolved to be self employed.
