Solid video, especially #5. I've been rebuilding my homelab and it's honestly very easy to fall into so many of these, especially procrastinating and hardware envy.
Guilty! I'm guilty of hardware creep, especially over the 6mos. My goal was to get a nas/server with as low power consumption as possible. Unfortunately I've only managed to increase it from around 100watts to 150watts but that being said am happy with my storage and computing power but I'm still bothered by my wattage usage.
It's a constant struggle! I am working to reduce my idle power draw from around 600w to 400w this year if I am able to find the right replacement hardware for a few pieces.
@@CircuitSlinger That's a lofty but admirable goal, certainly not impossible. I wish you the best of luck, and Thanks for your time and effort in creating this channel. Looking forward to learning more in the future. All The Best!
i just picked up a couple of 1st gen ryzen based lenovo thinkcentre SFF PCS for $40 each. i probably couldve gotten away with one, but the only 2 things that i really care about is a nas and a media server, which could be run on one system, which i will probably end up doing, once i can get more hard drives, and then the second computer i can do things like game servers, or whatever else i decide i want to do, and these days i just want something stupid simple to run, even if it means that its a more complicated setup to start off with. i have a few friends who have homelabs, and while i havent outright said it to any of them, i did ask a few of them about a theoretical question about them wanting to keep some data on my network, and they werent totally against the idea, because i have a reliable gigabit internet connection and very reliable power
@@masterbond9 Me and a few friends have setup a VPN using ZeroTier and are trying out how to bidirectionally sync our data now using that. Only bottleneck is your upload speed of your ISP at that point. Great find on the Lenovos, I absolutely love the M720Qs I have and have been running them for years with virtually no downtime.
@@CircuitSlinger yea, i know, i was hoping that there was a bios update for the later am4 ryzen CPUs, but they do not support it, its only a minor disappointment, because my brother's friend only just decommissioned my first ryzen build after 3 different hands have touched it
God... please forgive me for the $1000 refurbished entreprise grade server i'm gonna buy. Even tho my actual setup is completly overpowered. Also, yes, i need thoses GPUs..

Hardware Envy gets me everytime! I totally didn't just order a new firewall for an upcoming video!
Thank you as some who is starting out this helped
Great video! It would be great to have video where to start to become Cyber security specialist

I have banana pi plugged into my pc acting as secondary router or whatnot
Oh, that MS-01 is nice 😂 but my new storage server is just a simple AMD Ryzen 4xxx Pro. Nothing serious. Need to admit just restarting my home labbing
Homelab hardware envy/creep? What's that? *Says the guy with a FULL 42U rack and enough piled up to fill another!
Yeah, I said I was downsizing when we moved into our new house. Somehow downsizing from a 30u that was mostly full meant getting a 42u that is full!

Overpowered just means that you have room to grow. Right? Or am I just coping. lol
