11:00 Mark! I suppose you know by now that they reused people to play different roles, and sometimes it was because they just forgot! Though, when making more than one episode at a time, it could be ignorance! This actor is one of many who played more than one role! 😎

The prop piece behind the transporter was added to give the crewman a reason to have his back to the pad, lol 😂

11:00 Mark! Ahem. By the way! I just double-checked something.
    Quote One -
Yes, the military has chefs, also known as culinary specialists or military cooks, who prepare and serve food for other military members. They work in all branches of the military, including the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard.
    Quote Two -
During the enlisting process, one has to specify the area of specialty. Once basic training is completed, the aspiring military chef can focus on their cooking. Regardless of your capacity in the military, you have the opportunity to serve your country.
    Quote Three -
Can you be a chef in the military?
A military cook, also known as a culinary specialist or military chef, is a member of the United States Armed Forces whose responsibilities focus on preparing food for other military members, either in the field or on military bases.

What is a military chef called?
A military cook, also known as a culinary specialist or military chef, is a member of the United States Armed Forces whose responsibilities focus on preparing food for other military members, either in the field or on military bases.
    Quote Five -
Are there still cooks in the military?
While there are civilian contractors in a lot of military food facilities, the military cooks are members of their respective branches. Therefore, every military cook must first attend some form of boot camp or basic training. April 12, 2024.
    Quote Six -
How much do military chefs get paid?
Average U.S. Army Culinary Specialist yearly pay in California is approximately $44,488, which is 24% above the national average.

4:43 Mark! The language problem of the writers that makes it a problem for their characters, too, is their usage of "tape" and "taped" rather than "recording"! It was annoying to me then. But now we should wonder what happened to our current digital computer technology that would require us to revert back to using tape recordings! 😮
By the way! I still have a "crush" on the characters that I've always had. I don't see aging as a reason to stop! It isn't a sign of immaturity! Sigh. 🤨

Qwik points. The Helen Noel character was originally supposed to be Janice Rand, who you will remember from Charlie X, but Grace Lee Whitney had been eliminated for reasons which is a story in and of itself. The mind meld was invented because NBC was freaked out for various reasons with McCoy hypnotizing Van Gelder, which was what was originally in the script, including that viewers might be accidentally hypnotized. "Noel" is a sort of play on words because this was the Christmas episode that year. It's never really made absolutely clear if Kirk and Noel actually hooked up or just almost hooked up. Although when she tinkers with Kirk's mind, it's implied nothing happened the first time, Kirk reacted awfully strongly upon seeing her for them to have just danced and flirted a bit, don't you think? There is a way to tinker with your brainwaves to various effects (and which isn't dangerous at all) using what's called binaurals. Back to the mind meld, it's never really been done consistently. Sometimes one handed, some times two handed. Never as elaborately as the first time here.

There's now something that bears discussion, and it ain't pretty.
Yeoman Rand is now gone. This is because Grace Lee Whitney was SA-ed by "an executive."
Grace Lee Whitney never revealed who it was. It was a secret she took to the grave.
However, somebody with the power to write scripts began talking to her about how the key to the Kirk/Rand relationship was the unrequited sexual tension. Indeed, it had been touched-on in "The Enemy Within."
The "executive" talked about doing more with Rand in that regard. During the conversation, things turned very, very dark.
Whitney was SA-ed and released from the show. In 1966, "executives" could retaliate with a lot of impunity.
Things then went very badly for Grace Lee Whitney. She succumbed to drug addiction, resorted to prostitution ... her life simply fell apart.
If you're unfamiliar with the pathology of SA: left untreated, it often leads to self-destructive behavior.
By the time of _Star Trek: The Motion Picture_ in 1979, she'd gotten treatment and would have cameos in several of the films. But she spent the better part of a decade in a very bad, dark place.
So the question becomes: who was "the executive"?
Well, it had to be someone who wrote scripts and had the power to fire people. Unfortunately, that points straight to Gene Roddenberry.
Again, Whitney never revealed who it was. When Herb Solow (GR's boss at Desilu) learned of the SA decades later, he was shocked. He said that if Whitney had come forward, he'd've seen to it that the SA-er got black-listed and never worked in Hollywood again.
Solow also said that if Whitney had wanted to press charges, he'd've backed her. Unfortunately, in 1966, women almost never reported it. Tragically, SA-ed women were considered "damaged" and looked-down upon -- even by other women!
Indeed, the LAPD had two classifications for SA: only one was called "forcible." It meant that the woman probably had to go to the hospital for injuries sustained.
We can really only guess the identity of "the executive." Was it GR? Very possibly. My only objection is that GR had no problem finding women to sleep with consentually.
Then again, SA isn't really about the S part. It's about control.
But it had to be someone who could influence scripts and had firing power.
Much as I dislike it, what evidence we have points to GR.
As far as I know, this is the ugliest thing to happen in the entire franchise. I certainly hope that nothing uglier ever comes to light. 🖖

    • @SYLTales
      @SYLTales Рік тому +2

@@herbertkeithmiller yes, but you need to be careful about using anything other than "SA." UA-cam's bots look for any words involving it and often auto-deletes the comment.

@@herbertkeithmiller it hasn't so far, which is good. UA-cam allows it occasionally, but in my comment it was mentioned so frequently that I felt I had to use the abbreviation.
Be very, very careful about using the most common term. UA-cam podcasters always use the word "grape" if the subject comes up, otherwise the video gets deleted with a strike. One strike means that the bots then attack your channel looking for other instances. It typically takes less than a day for two more videos to be found, the strikes added, and your channel terminated.
Unless you have an attorney, there is no recourse.
I've had UA-cam kill a live stream when we were discussing it. The word came up clinically, and within seconds UA-cam terminated the stream.
The horrible reality is that there's a small group of UA-camrs who discuss this in terms of "fun" with minors. Rather than taking the 1.21 giga-complaints viewers make and terminating their channels, UA-cam relies on bots.
Unfortunately, those a-holes are extremely clever. Their channels remain intact where others are killed simply for mentioning it clinically in three videos.
It was rather well publicized a few years ago, but when it became clear that UA-cam wasn't paying attention to complaints, people pretty much threw up their hands and gave up. Now we try to publicize it on social media. At least people will know who the scumbags are.

I, too, have wrestled with the possibility that her assailant could have been GR. ...One of the implications you haven't mentioned: If it had, in fact been GR, and if Grace Lee Whitney had made news of the attack on her public, that very easily could have led to a huge scandal for Trek, in the middle of Season One. Because GR was so crucial to the show, such an event could have damaged or destroyed the creative team's functional ability to make new episodes. One can envision Desilu executives (and Lucille Ball) throwing up their hands, and saying: "If the head of this show is embroiled in this, then the whole show is now more trouble than it's worth. Pull the plug and move on." Trek could have run only one-half a season, or one season, before coming to an end. Bottom line: it's very possible that Grace Lee Whitney may have saved all of Star Trek, by making a choice to remain silent, so that no such public scandal occurred. (Among other things, that would make her the greatest 'unsung hero' in all of Star Trek, since the very beginning.) That's a lot of "ifs", to be sure. And, unfortunately, we'll never know.
