Bill, get yourself over here and I'd happily be "Crew Driver" on your wheel chair for the day: show you the authentic sights and inevitably end-up at a decent pub for a pint or 10!
I am still kicking, but having shots in my back. The Doc.hit a bone, which did not feel too good. I would love to come over someday But work around the house comes first, but I listen when I get chance. To hear some good bands.
Magnificent musicianship and marching performance. Was an award-winner band director for many years. This band is so far above well done: balance, blend, intonation, tone quality. This is impeccably performed music. Thank you to the producer of the video!
This 'Old Soldier -- ex RAMC' was in Hospital after an operation for Bowel Cancer so i missed the 2018 event ! I went on the Brentwood (ESSEX) remembrance Parade though -- nothing was going to stop me ! Wonderful marching and band music. !
I can’t get used to this thing putting words in for me, but what I wanted to say is I never get tired of watching this kind of thing, makes one feel so proud and we need that.
I thoroughly enjoy all marches. I have played in different bands, mostly concert bands. I played in the German/American brass band, of Southern California, until work took me to Arizona. Due to illness I had to stop playing. I listen to your wonderful bands. I also listen to German Bands. Being German myself. I'm sorry this is so wordy. God Bless you across the pond Bill Mauer
Of all HM full time bands, I love the household bands the best. They always have one or two bass trombones that play as loud as the rest of the section and it sounds so awesome.
Another splendid performance by the Drivers, Medical Orderlies and members of the Support Weapons Platoons of the Guards regiments; oh... they can play a tune or two as well!
Thanks for uploading this video well done Kaan very nice and very nice sound also . I was there for the HM Royal Marines Beating Retreat on the 30th of May . They play a march named Bird cage walk for the street they are marching on. Thanks once again.
Fun fact about the birdcage walk march . It is composed by a Welsh guards bandmaster . That's why it sounds like a Welsh guard march to me. It's amazing to see Royal Marines play a Welsh guard march on their beating retreat in May 2018.
Very well balanced, without the loud drumbeats... Brass&Reed interchanching in TRIO and than in 2nd reprise with flutes&picc. And: of course a set of Tromboni, Basstromboni, & cornetti likewise the golden sound of British Brass&Reed bands...
You forgot the beauty of the Euphonium sound, blending seamlessly with those on the melodic theme. Piccolo's are well positioned in the counter-melody, not overbearing as in so many other performances.
Interesting: "By the left". That is highly unusual. Normally the senior drum major walks in the middle. This is the weirdest thing. Obviously they massed the usual five bands, but the two "left" drum majors are only walking in seconds before they reach Horse Parade. Really, truly weird.
It's because the other two drum majors (cold stream and Irish) were leading their corps in the opening acts and they had to return to the massed bands for the main act
This was on the 7th. I was a spectator on the 6th, and Drum Majors did not wear State Dresses on that day, as no member of the Royal Family was present on the 6th.
Super banda complimenti mi piace se possibile suonare qualche marcia. Italiana organico super rinforzato oi la seguo molto a il ruggito di un leone auguri
@Otacatapetl 0:06 you see DMaj Steven Staite, Grenadier Guards, DMaj Jonny Stranix, 1st Battalion Scots Guards, and Senior Drum Major WO2 Damian P. Thomas, Grenadier Guards. 8:50 you see DMaj Gareth Chambers, 1st Battalion Irish Guards and DMaj Liam Rowley, 1st Battalion Coldstream Guards join the Massed Bands to march on to Horse Guards Parade.
Who were those gentlemen at the end marching in the grass? Looked like a detachment of black marchers. Hope that isn't segregation in the UK. Anyway I just LOVE these posts and the music! And I love those old streetlights. Unfortunately over here in the states they are slowly being replaced. Great sound and color to go along with the video!
The guys at the end of the video were the Band and Pipers of the United Arab Emirates ( one of the guest bands ) who accompanied the Massed Bands of the Foot Guards on their way from Wellington Barracks to Horse Guards. They, and other guest performers, take up their positions off-stage, ready for their own performance.
There is not, and never has been, segregation in the UK armed forces. If you visit London and look at the bronze friese at the base of Nelson's Column in Trafalgar Square, you will see a seaman with very distinct negroid features serving the cannon shoulder to shoulder with his shipmates. The battle of Trafalgar occured in 1805. Whoever he was, he was a free man because it had long been established that no one could be legally "owned" by another person in Britian.
I could view and listen and dream hour after hour and starting again from beginning ;) Great sound and wow, what a performance. Typically made in GB. Why do you wanna leave the EU?!!?!!?!!!
Than a warm wakeup in your after-eu show with Mr. Johnson, my dear. Btw: There will be no longer any EU-subsidies available fot that "great" Britain ;)
@Robert Cawley I wish your dream comes true but I didn't expect that. That bill, Robert, isn't at us to be payed. The more coz GB always get more bonus points as any other state in the EU. Now it's to you, Robert, who have to pay those bills, not the whole EU from where you get more money as you ever have payed in. And those bills will raise on an brutal kind if your Mr. Bumblebee... ah, sorry, your Mr. BJ gets his hard exit. It's not at us to help you out of the shit the next years. It's at yourselves. Happy holidays, Mr. Cawley, happy holidays.
At least they're playing German marches! It's the same thing for me, I've only seen an English band play a Swedish march once. Any good Austrian marches you recommend? Gruß an Austria aus Schweden!
I could listen to this massed band play marches all day. Thanks for posting!
The magnificent men of the UK armed forces, no other countries do it, absolutely Brilliant, I hope you are all safe
Marches Played:
"Guards Armoured Division" by Wilcocks
"Birdcage Walk" by A. Steck

Como me gusta la marcha Birdcage Walk muy marcial saludos desde Martinez Buenos Aires Argentina
8:03-9:15 magnific!
especially that flute
@David Guyse Its a piccolo .
Der Marsch heißt "Klar zum Gefecht"
und ist vom deutschen Komponisten H. L. Blankenburg
You gotta admit, a band won't be a band without trombone.
This by far, is the best sounding version of, “Guards Armoured Division”.
I agree. It sounds beautiful also its made from the same composer who made sarafand.
