Sunday afternoons listening to Annie were special, loved her relaxed style and awesome selection of music she played. She influenced me in the music I listened to and played as a drummer.
Aww, that's sad news. R.I.P ANNIE NIGHTINGALE FIRST female DJ on the airwaves! Loved her on the OGWT! I've got her book, Chase the Fade. Saw her DJ on the Southbank several years ago, she was great.
I didn’t hear a female or male DJ. Just a fantastic broadcaster who knew what music she liked and knew what she was talking about. Condolences to family and friends. ❤
I always felt, instinctively, that she wasn't really a music person. She was just a middle-class bbc stooge. That the music thing was given to her rather than being something inate. That she could just as well have been a broadcaster of marshmellow consistency - Whatever role the bbc gave her. So there!
I've heard and seen her but never really knew her.i remember her always wearing purple shades.i wouldn't have thaught she was 83years old she looked younger.rest in peace to her .Godbless her Amen🙏🕊🦋🌹
Annie Nightingale knock down more doors at the BBC to get where she was in 1970, She stood up to sexiusm male club and discover more artists than any other DJ at Radio 1,
Does the BBC have to turn everything into a campaign for minority rights? Annie was a wonderful broadcaster who, along with John Peel & Whispering Bob, did so much to open our ears to alternative music. Yet here we have two people talking about her with no feel whatsoever for what made her special. RIP Annie, you deserve better from the organisation for which you did so much.
@metalmusic1964 hi just kinda heard that Annie Nightinggale, BBC Radio1' Presenter Dj' and of the Old Grey Whistle test, has sadly Passed Away at the tender age 84' she was part of My Youth' Along Sides of her Two Male Comparatists,,,, the late Great Presenters John Peel' and Tommy Vance, i Believe' Annie Nightinggale' Both John Peel and Tommy Vance, a Run for their Money Thank you' for the Music Bless' Mr Michael Calf City of London Hackney UK 😥♥🎞🎥📺💯
Annie Nightingale, John Peel, John Walters, without these wonderful people, would punk, house, rock etc ever have come to light or would it have just been an underground thing? What made Annie Nightingale so special was that she really opened the door for more women to come into the radio, journalism and music industry, without Annie Nightingale, would we have heard of Janice Long, Jakkie Brambles and the likes? Sadly we've lost John Peel, John Walters, Janice Long, Terry Wigan, and now Annie Nightingale, even though I don't listen to the BBC anymore as it's gotten boring and repetitive, the BBC upstairs have got an amazing line up now, remember Alexis Korner at 9pm on Sunday nights? Wigan on the breakfast show? Listening to John Peel underneath the bedsheets from 10 pm? Annie Nightingale on the late night weekends? Janice Long just before Peelie? The BBC may have gone downhill rapidly, but they introduced us to some wonderful personalities back in the day
I remember John Peel playing Dylan's Desire album on his late night show back in 1976. Dylan's best. John and Annie were peas from the same pod. Bless you both.
Some where in some place there are two of the Worlds most rubbish record collections of terrible music ever that nobody would want to listen to. One is by John Peel. the other by Annie Nightingale.
Remember Annie on radio one on Sunday afternoons.why don't they put someone on to talk about her not 30 yr olds!!!who would know the real things about her.not dribble
Couldn’t agree more. Both of them talk as if they’re reading a script, not talking from the heart. Loved watching Annie on the Old Grey Whistle Test, her, John Peel & Whispering Bob did so much to bring new, alternative music to our ears.
Sad that the BBC keep harping on about her being a woman in a mans world rather than on her ability, knowledge and enthusiasm , and what a sad loss her passing is.
@@tridaks It is a very important aspect of her story, and most people listening to Radio 1 nowadays would not have been alive in those days, and might not know much about the era, and even many watching BBC News might be too young and/or not know either, so it was worth mentioning how much of a trailblazer she was.
@@MrDannyDetail agreed, in this modern era of equality & whatnot, it doesn't matter about gender. But, in the olden days, those of us that were already adults at the turn of the century, to us, Annie was at first novel, then she seemed to blaze a dazzling & inimitable trail, for music & getting it to the masses of us, hungry for the creme de la creme & did a world of good for the sisterhood. Nightingale, soar high above the clouds, inspire from behind the veil. R.I.P.
@jollytunes It makes sense to me now. Thank you for bringing that to my attention. Also, I agree with you 100% regarding fake obits on YT that they do nothing about.
Annie Nightingale I fail to see what contribution she made unless you count putting a record on a turntable and announcing the name of the band as talent, and Radio 1 was and still is for half wits

I loved her on The Old Grey Whistle Test. What a beautiful, dynamic lady. RIP..🫶

Beautiful woman simple as that, and what a human being...rock n roll radio here we go😊
Aww, that's sad news.

Same here
she sounded female to me, no mistaking that.

So there!
A big part of my late teen years watching the Old Grey Whistle Test. ❤🙏❤
Great ear for quality music. Very good presenter. God bless her memory.
SHE WAS A LEGEND SHOULD HAVE BEEN MADE A DAME FOR ĤER CONTRIBUTION TO MUSIC RIP 🙏
Will be sadly missed Rip anne
God bless you Annie, great memories..thankyou.
R.I.P. Annie Nightingale (1940-2024) 😢
She was brilliant being a woman at that time with such a wide knowledge of music and looked great and condolences to your family Rip
Ah, sweet Annie. You, the OGWT - and of course Uncle Bob - will always have a very special place in my heart.
thanks for uploading
You're welcome - my channel has bbc radio 1s version too, r.i.p annie!
Before Annie there was no concept of a female musical pioneer. Also hugely likeable.
I've heard and seen her but never really knew her.i remember her always wearing purple shades.i wouldn't have thaught she was 83years old she looked younger.rest in peace to her .Godbless her Amen🙏🕊🦋🌹
I just saw a video of her Interviewing Formula-1 Racers in 1971
I didn't realise she was that old. Quite an attractive woman she was. Sad. RIP Annie.
Rest in peace dear annie. Thanks for the memories 🙏🌹
She was fantastic, beautiful with a great voice!
i was watching a Bhundu Boys video on YT ... She was credited at the end video... exactly as I was told that she has passed.
In New Music we Trust.
Zoe Ball presents a breakfast MAGAZINE show. Got nothing to do with what Nightingale did. Annie was a proper Muso DJ.
A legend.
Annie Nightingale knock down more doors at the BBC to get where she was in 1970, She stood up to sexiusm male club and discover more artists than any other DJ at Radio 1,
R.i.p. annie. So sad to hear about your passing you are irreplacable as a radio presenter on radio 1.
She got me through many long nights driving my taxi
sad news, another legend gone, a true pioneer, sad.
she is cool as eff for sure
Always loved Annie❤RIP
She had a good life and career. You can't ask for much more.Private Schools do that.RIP
RIP Annie.
There was something very special about her.

Between Annie Nightingale and John Peel I never liked anything either of them played on the radio.
There,s always one .yeah you 😂😂😂

That news presenter isnt even looking at you naturally whilst reading the news. What has happened to the bbc? is she on work placement?
Watched this a few times can’t see your point.
What triggered you her skin colour or that she’s a woman

4.30....the most undermining and sexist insult to her memory
RIP
Played a lot of weird and wonderful stuff RIP
This report stinks
She wasn't just a "female DJ"...
maybe for about 9 months... that was a thing.
She was one of the VERY BEST On Air Legends!
Either you're letting us know 11 months in advance of her pending death or you need to correct the date!
@jollytunes It makes sense to me now. Thank you for bringing that to my attention. Also, I agree with you 100% regarding fake obits on YT that they do nothing about.
Weather with Sara?
5:08 Weather with Sarah? Her name is Helen. Bet she was confused!
David and Lizo have the best voices on BBC News!
😢😢😢
A PUNK ANGEL UTTER TOTAL RESPECT thankyou Annie
F#@king Class DJ!
:(
anne a true d j
It’s all sad really.
Her time was up ... let's say no more ... rip
When did the BBC decide to play "popular" music?
19 bloody 67! 😂
It's laughable and sad in equal meas.
*measure. And weight too!
Annie Nightingale I fail to see what contribution she made unless you count putting a record on a turntable and announcing the name of the band as talent, and Radio 1 was and still is for half wits
Speaking of half wits...
British Brainwashing Corporation begs to differ. Ffs get with the programme.
Wow, what a take 🤦♂️
How old is this guy?!
@@paulbrookes413 He was definitely right about half wits!😂
😩😢
