    To everyone asking what you do for the last 2 days of the week...my system is I shop and prep on Sundays, and that lasts me til Thursday. After work on Thurs, i swing by the market and grab enough chicken and veggies for Friday and Saturday. I whip up a quick stir fry that gives me about 4-5 servings that last until I do my full blown prep on Sunday. I spend about $70 week total on food

  • @crazymeowchick

    This was a lovely video, thank you! I have to mention that you can save a ton of money on beans if you get the dried version and buy it in bulk. Canned beans in water are a rip off compared to the dried beans, which also have a very long shelf life. I once saw dried pinto beans for less than 50 cents a pound and the dried beans plump up at least twice as big after you soak them, so you also save space in your pantry! It takes a bit of extra prep, so if you don't have time to soak overnight, using a slow cooker on high for 2 hours takes them from dried to meal ready.

Converted to freedom units, i'm trying to get from 183 down to 160 (10kg) in time for summer with 28% body fat currently. You cook food good for 5 days in a single time? Where and how will you store the food to avoid it from spoiling and do you reheat everything? I'm so confused.

    • @Markonim
      @Markonim 8 років тому +4

      Yeah was wondering the same but that is purpose of Meal Prep to not cook every day as most of us can't so you have 3 meals ( breakfast which you can cook ) snacks which you can prepare daily but other 2 meals lunch and dinner you have prepared and you just reheat. if you have a good fridge and you can just reheat the food you can do it for 5 days but some people prepare on Sundays for 3 days and then on Wednesday for 2 days as most people have Wed as their day off.

    I made the honey mustard chicken recipe in my pressure cooker on HI and cut the time to under an hour start to finish! Started with frozen chicken breast as well. After 15 minutes pulled the chicken out and shredded it then put it under pressure for another 5.

    Hi, very nice recipe and I had recently prepped this recipe for this week (with minor tweaks)! One thing though, you mentioned for the chicken "cook on high for 3-4 hours". I'm not sure if my pressure cooker is different than yours, but my chicken totally burned within 1 hour of cooking.
    So I took out the chicken, cut off the burnt parts, and scraped the bottom of the pressure cooker. I then tried again at lower heat, and I added a bit of water (as the chicken became quite dry). It turned out well! So maybe for some people cooking on low may avoid burning your chicken

    • @bringingtherukas7473
      @bringingtherukas7473 5 років тому +3

      Yeah i wondered exactly the same.
      I wouldn't eat chicken or fish that been in the fridge for a week and I wouldn't normally freeze broccoli or potatoes as they dont "thaw" well

  • @RngrfromtheMtns
    @RngrfromtheMtns 5 років тому

    This looks to be a great meal prep plan. Looked at the blog recipe and it looks like your caloric calculations are off quite a bit though the exact portion sizes aren't listed so that could be where the discrepancy is. This could easily feed me for a week and for $75 I think that's quite doable. I hunt so I have access to lean red meat (elk and deer) for the stuffed peppers.

      There are some things you can do. 1) buy rice in bulk (like 4-5 pound for 20-30$. That will give you a grain staple for like 10 cents per serving. 2) buy bulk meat at SAMs or COSCO where you can get 12+chicken breasts for like 20$ 3) buy frozen veggies. Frozen mix is cheaper and will go in meal prep boxes no prob. These 3 things will help you have healthy staples so your weekly trip becomes about adding/figuring out how to spice it differently. When fruit comes in season it's dirt cheap. I just bought a huge cantaloupe for $1.50! Buying fruit in season puts something fresh in font of you while being responsible with cash.

    It's best to get refrigerated and frozen items last to minimize time out of safe temperatutes zone. So, shop for non-perishables first with some self control-you can do it-ready, get set, and go.

      If you use gadgets like slow cookers and steamers and opt to bake most of your food like the guy in the vid does, you can prepare your food with little to no effort at all. The appliances are doing all the work for you. The worst of what you'll do is cutting and washing the food, which is easy. It's a fair trade off for the calories/money you save by avoiding restaurants....

    Chicken $5.35, with the card?.....I find that really high, I can buy boneless chicken breast here in Florida at the Save a Lot, for $2.29 LB, with NO card, when it comes a sale, I can get it as little as $1.50 LB!

      +Elisha Ondov I spend about 60-70 a week, but sure beats eating out lunch at work everyday which is what I did previously. I was spending between $35-60 for just lunches at work. Think about that... I was sometimes spending $250/month just for work lunches.

      He made 25 meals with $75. That's $3 a meal or $15 per day. You can't even order a combo meal at McDonald's with that money. $15 is going out to Chili's or TGI Friday for one meal.

    • @Michelle-pn9xt

      If spends 75 dollars in 5 days, he would probably spend almost $500 in a month. Yes, that is a lot for some people........ He only buying for person. How much money do you spend on food?

    • @JD-qo7hm
      @JD-qo7hm 6 років тому +4

      He eats 5 meals a day. The average person doesnt. If youre into fitness youre spending your grocery budget on meal prep and NOT eating out. It comes out cheaper in the end. My girlfriend and I would go out for every meal, easy 30 bucks each time. lets say 2 meals a day , $30 (on average)x2 =60 x 12 days of eating out a month = $720. Comparatively, doing what this guy is doing im saving 2-300 dollars per month and feeling better physically too.
      Obviously, if you're strapped for cash you can make your own twists on what you buy, but its always gonna be cheaper to buy cook your meals for the week than it is otherwise.
      $75 dollars for 25 meals for the week at 5 meals/day comes out to $3 dollars per meal. If you only eat 3 meals per day, that come out to $281.25 / month. You cant ask for better than that, come on. At least here in the US.

      If you're on a budget you can never go wrong with eggs, noodles, and rice. You can also buy lettuce for cheap and just hard boil some eggs and then throw them into the salad with some dressing. He's going more extravagant because when you eat healthy every single day for years on end you need variety to keep you from getting bored. Also protein shakes can work as meal replacements. I get a 5 pound tub of whey protein for $40 and that lasts me all month

      Here in the netherlands thats a lot of fucking money. 75 bucks for 5 days of eating for 1 person. Thats just crazy! I spend 75 bucks a week for 4 people.

      jestes7 sorry i didnt reply
      i live in london and shop mainly in tesco
      OATS, FROZEN MIXED VEG, PITTA BREADS OR TESCO TORTILLA WRAPS, CHICKPEAS (4 TINS FOR £1) THATS LITERALLY 16 TINS FOR 4 POUNDS STERLING LOL
      ALSO RICE IN BULK OF COURSE
      BIG BAG OF BROWN LENTILS (LESS THAN 4 POUNDS STERLING AND SHOULD LAST A MONTH IF YOU ARENT A GLUTTON)
      WITH THE REST OF THE MONEY (AND TO MAKE FOODS MORE PALATABLE AND VARIED
      BUY BIG PACKETS OF GARLIC, CURRY, BIG TUB OF WHOLE EARTH OR MERIDIAN PEANUT BUTTER AND RAISINS
      I HOPE THIS HELPS. ITS WAY MORE SATISFYING SATIATING THAN IT SOUNDS AND ADMITTELY QUITE AUSTERE
      ITS NOT NECESSARY BUT I EAT ONCE A DAY BUT THAT DOESNT MAKE IT MUCH CHEAPER HONESTLY
      I COULD SPEND EVEN LESS TBH

    You can get lean sirloin cheaper than the 80\20 ground bison and it is leaner, or you can get ground beef of the same fat content as the bison for about half the cost.
