  • The Scott Speedster Gravel is based on Scott's endurance road bike, the Speedster. It shares a very similar geometry as the Speedster endurance road bike, just with a slightly longer chainstay. This keeps the bikes fast road characteristics but with the wider tyres, adds all-road capability and stability.
    There are 5 models in the range, 3 unisex bikes and 2 women's specific bikes that Scott brand "Contessa" to help distinguish. All bikes have 700c wheels, aluminium frames and Shimano GRX groupsets. The bikes are named with numbers, from the 25/30 entry-level bikes to the top of the range 10 machine.

    Whats the difference between this and the speedster disc non gravel edition?

    • @tredz
      @tredz  4 роки тому +3

      Hi Matt, The main differences are the wheels, tyres and drivetrain being more gravel orientated on the gravel model. From a geometry perspective they're almost identical so you could keep a set of road tyres or even another wheelset and have the best of both worlds!

      Hi Baldur, the rims aren't that much wider so you could probably go down to a 28c if you really wanted to.

    As far as I know the Grx isn't on all 4 of the Speedster Gravel bikes. It not on the Grave 40 model.

      Thanks for the reply, Could you please let me know something.
      I'm buying my first bike in about 20 years from when I use to mess about with mountain bikes. I wanted to get a road bike for fitness more so than going on 3 or 4 hour cycles but was afraid to get a road bike in case I didn't take to it. But speaking to my local shop he showed me the gravel bike which I loved the idea of been able to use trails and not just stuck to the hard road. My question is i love the look of the the Speedster Gravel 40 2021 and have the money for it €1299 in Ireland but noticed it didn't have the GRX groupset and Hyd brakes and was worried that it wouldn't be as up to scratch to the other 3 models.
      I don't like the look of the gravel 30 @ €1499 but do like the Gravel 20 @ €1799 but to be honest for my 1st bike is out of my price range. Always a chance that at 42 I might not take to cycling again after not doing it for so long. So would love to know your thoughts one my 1st choice.
      Many Thanks
      Alan

      @@alankane8686 Hi Alan, Gravel bikes are loads of fun and if you used to ride mountain bikes they're going to be right up your street! You still get Hydraulic brakes with the Tiagra equipped bike but as you probably know already this is a road focussed groupset whereas GRX has more emphasis on riding off road so is built with the additional challenges this brings. In the real world though, the differences are going to be minor and unless you're riding the two back to back it'll be difficult to feel a difference and it's your first bike in 20 years either are likely going to feel like an improvement over your last ride. I'd say go for the one that fits best, you like the look of and is in stock, you won't regret it!

      Whats the diff to a Scott Gravel Comp 19?

    • @jere0099
      @jere0099 3 роки тому +1

      Hey Alan! I ordered this bike in early January and should be receiving it in about 2 weeks! I ordered a set of gravel tires and a set of road tires. With the Tiagra group set the Gravel 40 is pretty much a road bike, just 1-2 pounds heavier! And like Tredz Bikes said, the Tiagra groupset is actually more road friendly than the GRX. I will be using this as my daily trainer on the roads this summer (training for an Ironman) and should have no problem keeping up with my cycling mates! I'll let you know how I like it in a couple of weeks, but either way I definitely recommend this bike :)!

    What’s the widest tire you can put on this?

    • @tredz

      Hi Jim, it comes with 35mm tyres and you should be able to fit up to a 40mm in there. There's loads of clearance in the frame but the fork is a little tighter.

      I have this bike. Scott claims 700x38. But since the manufacturer's true width varies, not all 38s will fit the rear. I have a 38 up front, 35 rear.

    I’m enjoying the bike so far ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxMesz3KOGEmwmvyKQfLfrRSUXLFzfVHZA My only real complaints are the brakes and the pedals. I feel like a bike designed for bigger people should have much larger pedals and more heavy duty brakes. I’ve only gotten two really good rides out of it, minimal downhill action, and the brakes feel like they’re already going out. A larger person has more momentum, so I think this wasn’t thought through very well. Also, I wear size 13-14 wide shoes. My feet cramp up on these pedals that are clearly made for smaller feet. Since I’m not a pro rider (and I don’t think many are who purchase this bike) I don’t think that the straps on the pedal are necessary at all. None of this takes away from the enjoyment I get from riding, however. I’ll just head to a bike shop to improve on a few things.

      @@blp1884 Also quick releases + disc brakes + gravel riding = NO F'ING WAY for me (and really Scott no thru-axles in 2020?). Too bad too because this bike is a great spec for the money. Try to Orbea Terra AL or the Canyon AL for about 2K. If you really need a carbon bike, try the Viathon G1 for about 2,300. You may get crap for riding a "Walmart Bike" but think of the $'s saved and smile. Make sure to get GRX or the SRAM equivalent and not a road groupo like 105 because you'll need the lower gearing if you are in any kind of a hilly area (also there are tricks to lower the gearing even more - search "GoatLink" or "RoadLink"). Have fun.
