    How many variations on the bike light do we honestly need? Most of these don’t even appear to help with the fundamental issue of helping the rider to see where they are going. It’s just flash to allow hipsters to customize their fixies without improving anything about them. I’d make an exception for that dynamo powered light. It looks like it might be ok but I don’t think I would trust it on the trails and I doubt it is very efficient.

      Fundamental issue is cyclist visibility/safety, because most cyclists ride in the city where you don't need to illuminate your path even at night. And that can be solved by using any cheap $5 led light.

      Bike lights come for two needs, to see, and to be seen. We need to draw attention to ourselves so a car, going twice as fast as we are, wont hit us.

      Like he said IF you're stupid enough to think that only hipsters ride bikes in cities where they only need to be seen and not need lights so they can see.
      The question is are you stupid enough to think that???

    I'm all for bike lights, anything that keeps you visible and safer at night,,,,, but that Hooke thing, Jeeeez, I honestly laughed when I saw that guy walking around with his helmet strapped to his ass trying to look cool. That's just too funny. Forget the Hooke, carry your helmet like everyone else. Seriously, you don't want to look that dorky, even dorks don't want to look that dorky.

    The Magnic Microlight things are pretty cool... But my bikes and most that are not bought at department type stores have disc brakes not brake pads. It is a very cool thing but even the lower end bikes are starting to come with disc brakes.

    I usually shit on stuff like this, but honestly Revo light is cool, not just because he put on the rear and front lights, but he also created a platform that could so easily be made into more. He made something that could display images on your wheels whilst your moving, such as stop signs for brake lights emergency images that relay your asking for help, etc, and he made a system that can support that by just adding more lights.

      93847598347539487 rpm in the middle of SF traffic with no gears, no brakes, and no helmet - but hey, lights turn on when phone gets near and you can make the lights in your drops (with no tape) purple. Street cred over 9000 bruh. Too bad nobody can see them because YOUR ENTIRE BODY is in the way. GPS tracking is actually useful. Will make it easier to find your bars in a dumpster.

    Firefly are illegal in our state as well as ground effects for cars. All these wheel lights would be illegal as well might want to check legalities state by state

    Heh, does any of those einsteins even realize that there are plenty of wide bike tires, that will perfectly obscure any lights located on the spokes or brakes? And do they know, that any self-respecting cyclist will never mount any crap that would make the wheels heavier, especially near the rim? And from my experience (including hospital visits), for night cycling you need a massive light source (with at least 2 or 3 of those 10W Cree emitters), not those puny toys.

      Do you also run around saying they shouldn't sell lights, or brakes for that matter, because you know, a much higher percentage of cars don't work with those bulbs than there are bikes that don't work with lights.

    • @przemekkobel4874
      @przemekkobel4874 6 років тому

      Did you smoke something? Or read what I wrote for that matter? Most bikes sold worldwide are MTBs. MTBs have tires 2 inches wide or more (and that's what I call 'fat', compared to road or racing bikes). Any direct-pull or v-brake, if mounted properly, will be obscured by that type of tire, because it has to sit close to the rim. So (outside the hipster world) brake-mounted and spoke-mounted lights will not lit anything directly in front of such bike. Your second comment is an interesting material for a brain-wave expert, but that's not my thing, thank you.

      nbda.com/articles/industry-overview-2015-pg34.htm
      Now, if you want to just scrap out the mtb's that's fine. But 2 inch tires won't obscure those lights, and fat tires are about 4 inches, and you don't get to cysbge the definitions of words.
      So on to the numbers. You can't prove your claim of the entire world, so that's worthless.
      So back to America. 25% of bikes sold are mtb's.
      So what does taking out 25% of 15-21 million bikes leave exactly? Of yeah, a metric fucking shit ton of bikes suitable for your product.
      And you only run front lights that strong off road or areas that have no street lights.
      As you could easily see these were made for city transportation.
      And I'm far from being a hipster.
      But I have been looking for a non shit set of turn signal/brake light combo and have yet to find anything with a damn. And a report just released says my state(NC) has the fifth most aggressive drivers in the nation. So I would like a set that works more like a car.
      These are much better than anything I've seen so far, but they're going to have to get the price down before I buy them.

    • @przemekkobel4874
      @przemekkobel4874 6 років тому

      Graphs on industrializedcyclist.com say otherwise, so we can debate the numbers all day long (along with whether brake shoes are hidden behind my 2.2 inch tires or not, disregarding the laws of optics). But let me rephrase my point in a matter perhaps you could understand: these are moronic inventions, period. You just proven that by telling that these are meant for roads that have street lights (e.g. where you don't actually need any lights of your own). As for bad drivers, stats in my 'hood tell that overwhelming majority of accidents happen when the cars get you from the side, not from behind, so the lights wouldn't help you anyway. Thanks for the attention, and the foul language (very limited, I must admit, but I appreciate the effort). Bye.

      No, we really can't debate it.
      Did you read the URL you provided?
      The industrialized nations account for about 15% of the world's population. You claimed the entire world. So tracking them doesn't help you prove "the world".
      Most of the world can't afford new bikes.......
      And TBH, it wouldn't matter if 99% of the world's bikes were actual fat tire bikes.
      Why? Because there are still 10-15 million bikes a year sold in America that they could work on.

    more like 5 mediocre niche things that wont catch on in 2018. "I can text my bike and it responds with its location anywhere it is" Well that's nice you can text your bike when it's in the hands of the thieves and the police will tell you to do nothing while they do nothing and you never see your bike again. You can probably text its location till the battery dies at least though.

  • @stefangrun1774

    so with helios bars you will ride a deathtrap as you don't have any brakes other than your legs? but i guess simplistic design is more important. Anyway that is illegal in many countries and rightly so. If that idiot wants to die in traffic let him, but he endangers others. really not buying at least a 10dollar off brand rimbrake is so ridiculous it devalues anything he says. smh
    edit: i spotted a rimbrake so i partly apologize but any decent cyclist hopefully agrees that this bike is rather poor.
    edit: yeah i was heated. to be fair i imagine this to be a rather nice idea for a commute bike.
