Wally was our pianist at church, I never knew I was in the presence of someone so famous, as a child he was wally our awesome piano player of hymns

Mar 4 at "chattanoogan") gospel singer ;-( As Earl Freudenberg "chattanoogan" expressed yesterday, Calvi joined the "heavenly choir": "...a person couldn't ask for a better friend than Cal, who was known for his everlasting smile. Although he was a native of Illinois, Cal was proud to tell everyone he was from Lookout Mountain where he lived for many years. Growing up, Calvin was a boxer, winning the Kentucky Golden Gloves in just 23 seconds (!!). His early career was with the 'Blackwood brothers', 'Oak ridge quartet', "Sons of song' and others. The high tenor singer sang on many christian music band "Gaither homecoming" (1992 -) videos. Calvin was inducted into the "southern gospel music hall of fame" in 2,000. Famous "grammy awarded" gospel singer Jake Hess (76, d. 2004) once said : "...anyone who listens to Calvin Newton sing will discover what i’ve known all along - he is the finest gospel tenor there has ever been...Calvin was a guest on my talk show in the 90s with popular southern gospel singer John Wallace "Wally" Fowler (77, d. 1994, founder of the "Oak ridge quartet", that eventually became the "Oak ridge boys", 1947 -present !!) and popularized all-night gospel sings, an accomplished songwriter in both the country music and gospel field...he (also) spent an afternoon with us at 'WDYN' singing and raising money for the radio station. I sat next to Calvin at the funeral of (southern gospel pianist and singer) Anthony (John) Burger and enjoyed the conversation about his career. I later attended a gigantic birthday party for him at the 'Parkway baptist church'. Calvin loved dearly his wife, (5 times "grammy awarded" nominated pop and country singer songwriter and musician) Judith (Kay "Juice" Newton, 71), daughter Jackie (Newton Harling, d. 2014) and entire family. Calvin would call me often and say it just hadn't been the same without his sweet wife Joyce, who worked in the Chattanooga Mayor's office for many years. When David Carroll sent me a text of Cal's passing, my mind was flooded with so many good memories. Most of all Calvin Newton loved the Lord and would rather sing the Gospel than eat. I have a collection of his recordings with the 'Sons of song' trio. He was very proud of his daughter Jackie, an accomplished musician who at his big birthday party sang one of her dad’s favorite songs, '...it is well with my soul...'"- Calvin is now enjoying a re-union with his Joyce. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family..." etc. !

Real Christians are in a battle. Today people don't realize that because Satan has rocked them to sleep. And unless you are in the fight, as mentioned in Ephesians 6:12, against the powers of darkness and the enemy (1 Peter 5:8) that wishes to destroy you (John 10:10). But........ If you are not in the battle for the Lord, then Satan already has you and you may not know what I'm talking about. You see, there is no need for him to want to do battle with you if you are already serving him.
