    Another masterpiece by The Carpenters.
Karen's voice hauntingly beautiful, filled with her passion entering into your heart.
Paul Williams wrote the lyrics and music by Roger Nichols. They previously wrote The Carpenter's hits, We've Only Just Begun and Rainy Days and Mondays.
The orchestral backing with beautiful strings just amazing. Great reaction Harri. Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦

Your reactions to Carpenters and especially Karen's voice is fabulous. She will have left us on 2/4/1983. That is 40 years and Karen and Richard are still very popular in the UK and Japan. What a gift she was and Richard is a genius. Back in the 70's I didn't quite realize that Karen Carpenter was so unique and so excellent. Over four decades later and it's clear to so many of us now!

Contrary to what many people think, Karen did not play the drums on most of her recordings. That was done by Hal Blaine who was a prolific LA first call studio musician back then. He often paired up with bass player Joe Osborne, another legendary studio musician. Joe played on virtually all of the Carpenters recordings. Both played on literally hundreds of hit songs back in the 60's through early 80's. Sadly, both passed away a few years ago within months of each other.

Karen was one of a kind. There will never be another like her. She had such a pure calming voice. And she was a terrific drummer. That was her passion even more than singing. Sadly we lost her so young. Thankfully we have her legacy left in her music. The Carpenters had so many great songs such as "For All We Know", "Goodbye To Love", "Top Of The World", "Sing", "I Won't Last A Day Without You", "Please Mr. Postman", "Only Yesterday", "There's A Kind Of Hush (All Over the World)" & so many more.

Nice choice on the version to play. Richard remixed the album version for the single. A little more reverb, but what was a really nice addition was the Tony Peluso guitar fills at the end of each phrase! Enjoyed! :)

I read in Richard's book documenting their recorded work, "I Won't Last a Day" was not one of their tunes he felt would be good for single release but was somewhat pressured to do so. The version heard here, and the one originally recorded for "A Song For You" are a bit different (the lp version is a bit starker w/out Tony Peluso's guitar work). Never been one of my favorites, but Karen delivers it as good as anyone possibly could. Anytime Karen gets reacted to, the comments are so positive. Saw them live in '73, and they delivered an amazing show. True talent in both of them - matched to bring the world something quite remarkable and unforgettable.

I’m sure her family tried, but in an industry that will tell you that you’re fat when you are almost skin and bones the messages were mixed. As sad as it was it is probably the only thing in her life that was remotely under her own control.

I must admit that Linda Ronstadt holds first place if I am ranking beautiful female voices. But Karen Carpenter holds a very close second place with very little daylight in between. It’s nice that their voices are so very different from each other but both are stunning in their own way. Nice reaction Harri 🌺✌️

The best female voice of all time. Unmatched for her tone, warmth and vocal range.
As of today, October 21, 2023, Richard Carpenter is working on a new studio album. This album will be her first solo recording since 1987's "Time Out of Mind." Carpenter has been working on the album for several years, and has been searching for a vocalist who can fill the void left by her sister Karen, who died in 1983.
In an interview with Billboard in 2022, Carpenter said that the album will have a sound similar to that of the Carpenters, but that it will also be an evolution of his sound. "It's still soft rock, but it's a little more modern," Carpenter said. "There's also a bit of experimentation."
Carpenter has not yet announced a release date for the album, but has said that he hopes it will be released in 2024.
In addition to his work on the new album, Carpenter is also working on a documentary about the life and career of the Carpenters. The documentary, which is being produced by the company "Greenwich Entertainment", will be released in 2024.
Carpenter also continues to tour and give concerts. In 2023, he toured the United States with singer-songwriter Michael Feinstein.
There is no voice today that compares to Karen Carpenter's. She was a unique musical genius in the world and goes far beyond her time. It without autotune or any other manipulation. Just her voice and her brother Richard's incredible arrangements. No current artist can match this in this era. Karen was also one of the best drummers of her time and she could sing well while she played the drums simultaneously. A true top talent. RIP Karen Carpenter, We will always remember you and love you!!! 💛💛💛
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------
QEPD Karen Carpenter, ¡¡¡ Siempre te recordaremos y te querremos!!! 💛💛💛

Harri, it was the incomparable Hal Blaine on drums on this one. He was the most prolific studio drummer ever. The founding member of The Wrecking Crew. Carpenters weren’t a “Wrecking Crew” band like The Beach Boys, Monkees, Mamas and Papas but Joe Osborne who basically discovered Carpenters and Hal Blaine who was brought in to drum when Karen was forced to front the group, were the constant members with them in studio. Karen drummed the first album Offering/Ticket To Ride. She did sporadic drumming on numerous albums thereafter. Notably Mr. Guder on Close To You. But she also drummed all the songs on Now and Then with the exception of Jambalaya which Hal drummed. Hal is worth a research look up as he was on everything in the 60’s and 70’s. I mean everything. He loved Karen and they had a mutual drumming respect. Hal knew his days were numbered as Karen got better and better in the studio. Still, Karen was limited because of the crazy schedule. In concert, though, she always managed to get on the drums for a few songs. On tour their primary road drummer was Cubby O’Brien, he’s a story too. He and Richard both turned 77 this year (2023).
    Wonderful reaction Harri.
    Joe
