Your Mini is looking great Matt. Thanks for the shout out. Healing is going fine. Pain is being pharmaceutically addressed with beer and Kentucky bourbon. I am able to sand by hand again. On two of my Minis the boot seal is tighter than hell. It has been on one for two years and the other for four. They are looser that they were initially, but still too tight. I am thinking about taking them off and shaving them somehow. I still don't know how to remedy the tight seal situation. Looking for ideas. Cheers!
Hi Matt I had the same trouble with my boot rubber so I put slightly thicker gaskets seals behind the boot hinges did the trick and I discovered the best way to close the boot when it's a bit tight is to give it a quick shove while turning the handle at the same time Bish bash Bosh sorted. I like the colour off your car looks really good I'd like to do one the same colour in the future top job as allways Matt 👍
Fish & Chip Friday here with Mayonnaise on the chips ... (I worked in Germany and got the filthy habit) And what a really lovely rusty spring you have there Matt. Really .. err .. lovely. It hooks into that hole on the bottom of the spacer plate. There should be a little plate off the throttle spindle and the other end of the spring hooks into that. Looks like a smaller version of the clutch slave cylinder return spring clip And I think you persuaded me to forego originality and fit the later boot rubber. Certain purists will be quite alarmed ...
@@MattGreenWorks Yum yum or is it 'Nom Nom' these days?.... "2 Würstchen mit Kartoffelsalat UND Mayonnaise bitte" I will email a photo of how my carb, plate and spring is set up ....
Hi Matt, spring attaches to exhaust manifold bracket. Also my boot rubber is just as tight, fitted it 4 weeks ago and it is getting better but v slowly
Throttle spring connects to a right angle piece of metal with a hole in the end hanging off one of the bolts on the exhaust clamp on the bottom of the manifold.
That rusty spring soak it in white vinegar for a day or so then clean it in panel wipe then you can spray it in manifold or exhaust paint it comes out like a new spring won't look right with all the engine and bay looking like New else Rob
Hi Matt is your boot lid closing properly yet? I had the same problem as you. Got help closing the lid and turned the handle. Left it like that for a month and then opened it.......no better. It's a shame because it looks good. I wonder if the people that make these seals get any feed back on how poorly they fit? Saw what Dave Jaguar did and I've ordered a seal from Woolies. Cheers.
Not on SU Carbs. On Webers yes. SUs use this attachment plate for the air cleaner, throttle cable, choke cable and that return spring: An example off eBay: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Classic-Mini-HS4-1-1-2-SU-Carb-Carburettor-Abutment-Plate-Cable-Holder-12G766/283429433345?hash=item41fdb5f001:g:3WEAAOSwIO9chGQ1
i think this seal has been fitted the wrong way around, should have the pointed edge facing the car not the boot lid, that's what makes it so tight
