I remember watching my cousin play the fourth harry potter game. I also played the DS version which I think as you said, is a bit different. the Ds one was pretty fun honestly, had some minigames, including a take care of a weird snake thing with arms.
Wow I had buried the memory of Goblet of Fire until seeing this video. In retrospect, they clearly tried to emulate the exact same style as the Return of the King game - just worse. Also, it's nuts to me that Order of the Phoenix came out the same year as Mass Effect. . .
Honestly I enjoyed HP and the Order of the Phoenix a lot, mostly for the open world aspects. It featured some places we'd never explored before like the owlery. Oh and also little details like the talking gargoyles were a lot of fun!
I played the Stone of Synonyms on both PS1 & PC, and Chamber on a few different consoles which I enjoyed back then heavily despite their issues. When I got Goblet of Fire for Christmas one day, I played it for 15 minutes and hated it. I couldn't figure out why, but seeing it again here awakened some PTSD and I realize I wasn't insane for disliking it so much.
Something about the visual style of the goblet of fire game reminds me of the return of the king PS2 game. Even the attempted photorealism of the character models.
I played the Order of the Phoenix on DS when I was a kid, totally open world and actually lots of fun with interesting challenges. The end bosses were broken though.
Hey Patrician, I really recommend playing Half Blood Prince, it’s basically Order of the Phoenix except with almost everything improved, the camera was changed, story better implemented, and had a lot of additional features, including quidditch, which you can now walk to. It seemed to be OOTP except the basic formula they tried was now more “complete.” I was really captured by OOTP’s rendition of Hogwarts when I rented it from blockbuster as a kid, and tried to revisit that by buying HBP later. When I finally tried OOTP again, I was disappointed by how stripped down the place felt, and that the game was over in 2 hours. (Edit) Then again, my memory may fail me, and I can’t think of HBP letting the player use spells to solve as many environmental puzzles around the grounds, and instead replaces much of that gameplay time with new and more repetitive mini games such as the potions class.
I was going to say that I enjoyed the usage of spells to solve castle puzzles over potions. AS much as I LOVE potions class. Though Quidditch gameplay was awesome. In my first playthrough, I remember playing days on end trying to beat the game, not realizing I had already beaten it. XD Too short.
Harry Potter has always been a nemesis of a series to me. Ever since I was a kid I had this morbid fascination with how poorly written it is, and how unbelievably little anyone actually uses magic to solve problems in the damn thing, or how it rare it is that any character considers using more than one spell per scene. At the same time I enjoy the atmosphere, so I get why everyone else loves it, and occasionally the prose in the books could be good and the characters enjoyable, but it's always been such a snafu that I struggle to think of a way it *could* work on any level other than "cool area design". Video games suffer from Harry Potter's problems more than most because in a video game, the player has to have control, and when the player has control they realize how many solutions exist in this world that nobody thinks of and you arbitrarily cannot use for any problems. In a world where magic of any conceivable type exists and can be used trivially easily, it's infuriating to be forever confined to a context button that occasionally pops up. Acting like an authentic Harry Potter character is one of the least fun experiences imaginable.
Goblet of Fire was such a mess on PC. On top of regular issues of worlds being being backwards and not being able to control the camera at all so you often had to interact with things blind, keyboard controls were incredibly broken. Wingardium Leviosa was wonky back on windows xp, but when I tried to play the game few years back on win7, they just refused to work. Keys would not register, keys would stop registering when I still held them, keys would stop registering and then register again several times when I held them for few seconds... It made than spell completely unsuable, not to mention arrow keys going from 0 to 60 made controling levitating objects impossible (when cast button actually worked that is). One thing I do have to admit however is that ambiance and mood of the levels were fantastic, especially sound design. Distant echoes, sounds of wind, environmental objects being interacted with... it all came together quite beautifully.
Wonder why no one has ever made an attempt at a high-production AAA game based on all the books and movies, all packaged into one continuous game. Make it be like 60-hours-long, diving into every aspect of the books and movies that exists so you can experience the definite version of the story. It would sell, surely, but just take time.
I’m of that generation that was growing up along with Harry Potter’s main characters so this franchise is very dear to me. I loved the first three games, played them on PC as they released. When I started playing Goblet of fire I was so disappointed with changes made to that one that I immediately uninstalled it and never played a HP game again. Looking forward to Hogwarts Legacy with cautious optimism.
Half Blood Prince uses the same map but expands on it, adds more areas etc. Makes going back to OOTP confusing. If you play HBP...be warned potions is extremely glitchy and unfortunately it's a massive mechanic.
2:03 I can tell you that the thing you miss out on the most from skipping to play co-op, is that you have actual brains (or at least a person who can listen when you speak) behind the control of what would've been AI otherwise. Seriously, my one other memory besides HP4 being shit was that the AI was moronic, with sections of the game needing multiple people to cast the same spells to help power through, the AI would decide that it doesn't want to help you cast, at random. Or it would help you cast, only to stop before you've gotten any progress. And still, it's better than the two Deathly Hallows games, the second of which I didn't even bother trying to play after my frustrations with the first one.
Chamber of Secrets on ps2 was one of my first video games, I also loved the third game too. They were fun games and I wish they would remaster them. But I remember then playing the fourth game, imagine my disappointment lol. The best part of the games was the open exploration and they took that away. Order of the Phoenix was really rough but at least better. Half Blood felt like an improved version of the 5th game, but also with super good music for some reason. The last two games were an abomination.
I was playing this with my sister a long time ago. I wanted to go one way and she wanted to go the other way. On the level where you are on top of Hogwarts. Well because of the camera I got trapped on a corner and so did she.
I actually really enjoyed Phoenix, not very much replay value but it was so much fun for me the first time I played it. I do agree that the camera was so frustrating though, but the gameplay, music, and environment were really good
I think I remember liking goblet of fire the best movie wise, it had a lot going on, it was dark, the lighting was really good, and it expanded on stuff outside the one magic school. I’ve probably seen that one the most over the years
Actually, I remember getting Order of the Phoenix as a gift for Christmas. In a box. You see, I do not know if this was the case in other countries, but in Poland, EA had this series called 'EA Classics' where they rereleased some of their older titles for a relatively reasonable price, and while they had soome of the shovelware, I remember having Mass Effect 2 and 3, Crysis, Dragon Age, and a bunch of other good games (actually, there were many similiar series by different publishers, and I am certain they - unlike the EA one - still come out today.)
We had Sony do that here in the UK, same with M$ and Nintendo. Oddly, never 3rd party guys, wonder why they had different approaches between our locations?
@@Canadish My guess is that it's due to Poland being a... well, let's just say, a bit behind, economically and technologically, so these rereleases would have a higher chance of being successful than they would be in the west, where buying new games is simply more affordable - in the sense that Canadian (I think I am safe to assume you are Canadian lol) minimum wage is roughly three times higher than Poland's, but the games on release cost the same, so fewer people would buy those games on release; this also translates to the fact that fewer people will have adequate hardware on release to run these games - meaning that selling somewhat older stuff relatively cheaply has a much larger amount of people who would be interested in buying these where they couldn't do so on release date.
I liked GoF. It's only bad if you expect the style of the first 3 games, but once you look at it for what it is (a collection of individual challenges), it's pretty fun.
Excuse me for asking, but where did you get the Bertie Bott card from 3:05 in such a high resolution? I’ve been staring at these cards for years now and I don’t believe I have ever seen one in such a crisp quality. Is there more where this came from? If so, I would like to see that soooo much!
Man I remember I had order of the phoenix for my ps2. My siblings got pretty far into the game and I would mess around with the mini games and get bored of them. Then I would walk around the castle for a while, get bored of that, then I would switch to battlefront II for a good time
Something I discovered awfully late was that Carpe Retractum didn't actually want you to hold a direction button the way you want to pull. Instead you were supposed to be tapping on it in fast succession. Still a garbage spell though.
Hey man, always been passionate about these old Harry Potter games specially all the versions of the first three games. My favourites being the PS1 versions, followed by the PC and the PS2 versions. The version of Philosopher's Stone to Gameboy Advance also holds a special place in my heart since it was the only one I ever phisicaly owned for the Gameboy and only later did I play the others of that platform. Anyways, I just found your channel through these videos and really liked them. I like to hear your opinion on them and, having played Hogwarts Legacy, totally agree with the prediction you did on your first Harry Potter PC reviews. Unfortunately they did not capture the feeling of the old games nor did they come close to the atmosphere of the old games. Huge missed oportunity imo but nonetheless a great start to maybe future games. I do not forgive them for not including the Wizard Collector Cards tho, since they are arguably some of the best collectibles on the gaming industry that are funny, expand the universe, fun to collect and make for a good excuse to have a lot of secret areas in your game. Also, I know I am bit late but would love to know where you got that image of the Wizard Card from the first game. I have been trying to know where I could find HD versions of them but did not find any. It would be great to know
Order of the Phoenix was my first Harry Potter game (and the movie was the last one I saw somehow, having skipped it for the ones that come after) but it was easily my favorite.

Literally a day after I finish playing Phoenix on PC
21:37 You predicted it so word for word that it's kinda scary.
Muggle Guys with Witch Wives called. They say this video violates the Non-Apparition Principle.
I was playing this with my sister a long time ago. I wanted to go one way and she wanted to go the other way. On the level where you are on top of Hogwarts. Well because of the camera I got trapped on a corner and so did she.
omg, im having an awakening about playing goblet of fire as a kid that I didnt know I had
I’ve probably seen that one the most over the years
Funny, because it's by far one of the worst adaptations, the movie doesn't hold a candle to the book. They cut the most interesting bits.
I completely forgot I played so many of the Harry Potter games like I'd completely erase these games for my memory until now
Actually, I remember getting Order of the Phoenix as a gift for Christmas.
Technically, the first time we got to play as Fred and\ or George was in Quidditch World Cup, if choosing to play as the Gryffindor team.
Off Google. I think you are right so either someone re-illustrated it or used up scaling software on the original.
@@Patrician Makes sense. Thank you for taking your time to answer to my question! I'll certainly look for it if I'll find some spare time.
2:50 the harry potter games did NFTs first
This man stay keeping up with the grindset
Man I remember I had order of the phoenix for my ps2. My siblings got pretty far into the game and I would mess around with the mini games and get bored of them. Then I would walk around the castle for a while, get bored of that, then I would switch to battlefront II for a good time
Order of the Phoenix on the Wii was so incredibly frustrating. All the spells were different motion gestures and they never worked
It would be great to know
unironically what I've been waiting for - sequel to the "three HP games"
I just discovered that your 12 hour long video needed around 256gb just to upload.... damn such dedication.
Your levitation joke was hilarious. Or maybe I'm just trying to justify all that time spent watching the Skyrim review...
I bet the harry potter devs looked at the LOTR: ROTK game and said yeah lets do thaf
Order of the Phoenix was my first Harry Potter game (and the movie was the last one I saw somehow, having skipped it for the ones that come after) but it was easily my favorite.
I liked the trashyness of "GOF" you could throw around these cauldrons and rocks everywhere
I remember loving the early games on PC 1 and 2, sad to see this is where it went ^^
What's even weirder is you thought i thought you were bragging. Dont get hung up on peoples comments on your work. You do great videos man, dont let the barstards grind you down.
I had 5 and 6 on ps3 but gave them to a friend over a decade ago, I remember liking 5, and barely remember 6
I still have the box set of the ps2 games
Goblet of fire ps2 was a fever dream. Order of the Phoenix was so bad ass growing up.
I remember playing these on my absolute dogshit PC back in the day. It was close to unplayable even on the lowest settings. I eventually got tired of it and never got around to playing them again. Guess I haven't missed out on much.
I remember playing order of the Phoenix on ps2 and it being one of my favorite Harry Potter games right behind 2 and 3 also on ps2.
