Worshipped Aaron the guitar god back in smokefree rock quest days, liked Weta too and cos we both Hutt boys. Forgot about all that for the past 20 years, then I read he's gone Boom some tears fell as those memories flooded in, good memories. Moe mai ra Aaron Bro and thank you
Such a cool video, even though it's basic it really fits, pre drone as well be interesting how they done it, such a shame they didn't get more recognition as a band with songs like this and 'got the ju' the lead singer Aaron Tokona dying way before his time RIP
Yes. By far one of the best NZ rock bands i've heard, huge influential talent, world class, definitely missed but the music Weta made, performed and left us is something incredibly special and we will always have, will inspire those lucky enough to find it. Looking forward to Feb release. Thank you Weta/Tokona - RIP e hoa.
Wow! Talk about rythym and musical texture. Congratulations fellas. Its not easy to master and perform a minimalist ( read: delicate) song that's so listenable, strong and unique. Thank you for this!
I recently discovered this awesome track while watching the beginning of the NZ movie "When Strangers Appear".(2001). Didn't think much of the movie but the opening sequence has this track in it. Found the video here and man! Killer track and video. Such an awesome band.
This song was just playing in the back of my mind. I bought the album on disc soon after the release. It's a shame that they split up so soon after releasing the debut album. Definitely had something going for them.

2:41 I remember jumping off beds when I was a kid pretending to play the guitar on a vacuum extension pole . lol... Btw F**k 660 vomit inducing shit compared to this
Also I got the drummers sticks afterward the gig. Best Kiwi band ever, who knows what they would have done if they'd stayed together. RIP Aaron Tokona.
That fuck of a riff when it kicks in ...
The bass!.. The drumming!.. The guitars!.. The vocal performance..
How did this sing did not get international recognition??
It did.
Absolutely agree, wtf?
I remember them being big in Aus, lots of radio play.
Kiw's never get noticed unless you're a cute, pakeha girl

Massive shout out to Radio Hauraki for playing this effin EPIC song and bringing me to here to watch these incredible guys.
For me this song is “coming home”, rather than calling on.
One of The Best Rock Songs Ever Made ✊
Saw them live in Wellington for a reunion gig. Awesome.
Belting out a 40ft container .that's the Ju
What a slow burner of a song. Living in Oz at the time so missed this fertile time in Kiwi Rock..
Nah man it was big on Triple-M and Rage, one of my faves!
I was big on jjj, probably explains missing it!
Super crisp, so GOOD
I vaguely remember the song but not them so many bands in the late 90s and early 2000
Who came up with the idea of calling on to the marae?
Which tribe introduced it to the rest?
That's a Great question... hmmm
No
An unbelievably good track and band.
It's criminal that this level of talent gets swept under the carpet.
And I'm an Australian.
Nevermind 😅 we like a lot of Australia sounds too😊 well I do❤
This sounds so clean.. better than I remember. Rest in Aroha Aaron

Got the Ju. Another great song. Awesome band. Used to play tracks in my Homegrown show Saturday afternoons on National Radio. RIP Aaron.
