It's ridiculous how a few NIMBYs keep trying to stop public transit. Dodgers Stadium is located in a very challenging area. Traffic is horrific. The young woman who says they can increase the free shuttles from Union Station has obviously never been to a Dodgers game. That's a non workable solution. It would only add to the traffic because the buses use the same ROW as cars. A gondolas uses a completely different ROW. And since when is public transit a means to gentrification? The salon owner is correct and speaking from realworld experience, not theories.
>when is public transit a means to gentrification Who said this is public transit? These are not NIMBYs...That lady is calling for more shuttle services, which would be WAY more efficient than the useless gondola. If you actually read the plans and did basic math, it's obvious that the gondola would not decrease traffic in any meaningful way.
Gondola will increase flow into certain areas, therefore increasing the price of nearby real estate and pushing residents out. Do you know what gentirifaction means? This isn't any typical public transport either, its a tourist attraction.
@mehg8407 You do realize buses use the same road as the cars up the huge hill to Dodger stadium. How is that more efficient? The ONLY way that would work is if they didn't allow cars at the stadium. You know that would be even less popular and more expensive because Taxpayers would foot the bill. Decades have passed and Dodgers Stadium has only gotten worse. The gondola would be a great solution. These systems are used all over the world to reach physically challenging locations. Go to Palm Springs and ride theirs.
Chinatown is a dying neighborhood and everyone knows it. The fact there is no grocery store says a lot. Development is necessary to maintain an area. If not, it dies. The center of Chinese culture in LA long stop being Chinatown. It's now in the SGV. Do you think Asians committed gentrification when they started moving into to the SGV cities and setting up businesses? Or, was it progress? The developer should pay to take a few bus loads of Chinatown residents to Palm Springs to ride the gondola system there and they can get information on issues like all the safety protocals. They can see how quiet they actually are, etc. As with the gondola in Palm Springs, it's used to travel to challenging locations.
Odd how the gondolas are to remove cars from the road in the area yet that woman think it will make more traffic in the area but then thinks adding more busses would reduce traffic. Does she realize the more people taking the gondolas means less cars on the road since it will be servicing more than just Dodger Stadium.
As always people who hear about a potential way to alleviate traffic start lashing out as it has been for decades. Adding a gondola is new but the pushback is just like all pushbacks of past projects to add ways to get from Point A to Point B causing existing traffic problems to worsen and then the same people will lash out city council for not doing enough to alleviate traffic. I am all for ways to get from Point A to Point B to alleviate traffic. The amount of people going to a baseball game warrants ways to get to the stadium. There have to be ways to alleviate traffic and everybody either must adapt or move to the suburbs or small cities.
In spanish these are called telefericos and they are quite nice. My parents home state in Mexico has one in their capital city and it's a tourist attraction. You get to see the whole city and it gets you up to a hill above the city. These objections seem close minded because they complain about the traffic but don't want to see anything done to relief it. I think they are more worried about what might or might not happen to their home prices.
The original proposal was $6 one way if you have a game ticket. If no tickets purchasing the tickets at the box office was $15 I believe. But this was way back before the pandemic. lol. This project was approved and was to be built in 2022.
@davethewriter626 wasn't that back when there was going to be no stop service from union station to the stadium? They clearly are saying multiple stops to transport people all along the path to and from both points.
