Testing Alpacka Self Bailer Wolverine

I was testing the first time my new packraft on Kymijoki. Alpacka Raft Wolverine was great! I need more training, but first feelings are, that it is playful and maybe best packraft on the planet right now.

Caj I have looked at all the pros and cons of which raft to buy and this video has made me decide that the Gnarwhal open deck is the one for me. The open deck was not what I wanted but the speed of re-entry in the water makes it a much safer raft. Having watched videos with the Gnarwhal and Wolverine they look the same but handle the water very different. Thank you for your advice and my Gnarwhal has been ordered.

Hey Caj, I really enjoy your videos. It looks like you have swapped out the non-locking small carabiners that came with the Alpacka bow bag for small lockers. Good idea to manage the entrapment risk. Also enjoy seeing you try different lines on this rapid.

Thanks! Yes, I had these "gas station" carabiners a couple of years. My shoe once stucked to that S-biner and it wasn't nice.

Got the same boat. Whitewater deck though. Totally agree. Got to be the best Packraft for technical river at the moment. Amazed.
...how long is this river? Where and is it always running, or only in the spring flood?

This is a really long river with good flow over year. Its name is Kymijoki, it's in South-East Finland and is famous with WW-paddlers. It has been now 300 cubics in flood and it was about 50 cubics last summer.

Thanks for all of your packrafting content Caj! I'm leaning toward ordering this boat as SB, but new to packrafting. With the thicker seat do you find you sit well above the water inside the boat?

Yes, I sit above the water, but water comes to my behind now and then. Only my heals are in the water.

@@caide I just ordered a Red 420 denier self bailer Wolverine. I went with 420 last minute when I saw it's only a difference of about 200g and supposed to be more rigid. Any experience with 420d boats such as the forager? Also I hope it's not to tippy! I have only tried the Classic SB and it was super stable in Class III+. Thanks for addressing my other questions about SB Wolverine, there is not a lot of info out there yet!

@@danbida8418 Congrats for your packraft. 420D is more riggid as you said and helps against pin holes. Good choice!

Hey Caj, did you size down for whitewater usage or kept the same size as your usual Packrafts? I’m usually a large on everything Alpacka but considering the Wolverine in medium.

I have a couple different ones. I have usually 4 piece Rapa Carbon: packrafteurope.com/collections/paddles/products/tnp-rapa-carbon-200-210cm
In this video, I gave that to my friend, and I used Select W1 paddle.
