Just like Ricky was oblivious to Gina liking him I think Gina is oblivious to EJ liking her because she called him only her friend and co anchor and then called him weird after he pretended to date her.
Can we appreciate how Gina JUMPED at Lily when she came for Ashlyn? She said “Hell no, you mess with my sister, you mess with me.” And EJ in the background all “I’m sorry, what did you just say about my cousin?”
The ending attacked me. Cuz we all know that she's "Nini" because of Ricky. BUT THEN SHE SAID "NINA" IN THE END AND I AM ATTACKED.

This episode was wild. I loved every moment of it. The music, the talent, the drama, the dancing, the plot twist...
lily was actually right about them getting disqualified if they sing the rose song. since when they do theatre they have to get the licensing rights to put on the play, they legally can't alter the script unless they get permission from the copyright people
They aren’t allowed to alter the original menken text. But honestly East high can’t just depend their whole show on a single song.

Everyone is painting Ricky out to be ridiculous when all along he has been exactly right about Nini. He said she changed before she even knew it herself, he is saying the song has a double meaning because he knows her writing style. He knows her better than she knows herself, and she understands his relationship with his mum better than anyone else as they grew up together. One conversation with each other and they will understand how to help one another.
And he had every right to be uncomfortable with Miss Jenn. She was pushing him when he was in a tough place, and pursued Mike anyways after Learning he was Ricky's dad (well at least until the end of the episode when she came to her senses). If Miss Jen and Mike had broken up it would have caused so much drama for Ricky and if their relationship went extremely well Miss Jenn would be forever in his life in all aspects and never have a break from her. If you don't have divorced parents it's hard to understand what Ricky is going through.
Then in regard to his reactions to Gina, he can only assume she has moved on. She is the most confident, self dependent and strong willed girl, it has been months since opening night, he has every right to think they're okay since she hasn't talked about it and so he must feel that there isn't a need to. (although she hasn't been too subtle about her feelings in ep 2&3, Ricky still has the brain of Ricky and takes awhile to put the pieces together 😂)

THANK YOU!!!!!! I feel like I've been alone in feeling like Ricky hasn't been unreasonable all season? Yes he's a teenage boy, and he is partly responsible for the miscommunication in his life... but he isn't wrong to be hurt by Nini's lyrics when he's supported her being happy and following her dreams -- even when she broke the news about moving horribly and continues to keep things from him. He actually understands how much her music means, and she went from 100% missing him to singing about feeling trapped without trying to talk to him?? I love nini, and rini, but they need to actually communicate. And Miss Jenn was definitely a lot for him to face, and understandably uncomfortable for Ricky! She's someone important to him, and theatre has been a safe space for him amidst his home life. And he's recieved so much hate for the Gina situation... but they were barely ever together and then they both laughed it off. He doesn't get zoom in reaction shots of Gina's hurt face and individual interview moments? Like you said it's been months, and Gina is so strong and independent that I get Ricky thinking it was fine.
Ricky is flawed but I'm enjoying his growth this season. His family life is difficult and he has no familiarity, his oldest friend/girlfriend left and he now feels as if he's losing her, his closest teacher doesn't feel like someone he can be vulnerable with, and his new close friend Gina isn't even able to be his friend anymore. He's dealing with a lot?!

I feel like what’s happening in the show is paralleling what’s going on in real life so much , nini writes a song about ricky and it blows up 👁👁 , and even how when nini was gone at the other school pursuing her dream and everyone else was still at east high working on the show , it reminded me of how Olivia was really absent from the press junkets for the actual show bc she was busy doing things for her music career

Were they always planning on letting her go, since she was working on SOUR (ep at the time)? She still comments on all of the cast's insta posts, so I assume it's just her team that's not letting her promote the show, but it's so eerie how much Nini's plot is resembling Liv's. I also have a theory that her label will work out a deal with Disney so she can break her contract. There's no way she can go on tour next year if she's doing the show.
@@jennab5642 Yeah I get you it is kinda eerie in a sense if they were able to predict that. Maybe it was the writers' way of wishing her well on her music journey and giving her time to work on SOUR. That is depending on what will happen in the next episodes. Like if Nini's choices will have negative consequences.
Writers sometimes have a really twisted way of making their actors feel guilty through scripts when they show signs of wanting to leave the show. For exemple, the writer of The 100 making his lead actress Eliza Taylor act the loss of a child after she had a miscarriage IRL. Or about half of the Glee scripts adressing real life events or the bullying of physical traits or habits of the actors.
So yeah it might be a pure coincidence, a "wish you well on your journey" or a way of saying "if you want to leave then we're gonna ruin your character". And it wouldn't be unlike Disney to do that.
The fact remains that it's weird and that Nini's character arc in S2A kinda feels like it belongs to an other show.
Best episode of the season so far! We are getting the Ej content.

Miss Jenn had 3 men that want Ricky's dad zacky, and Mr mazzara she's need make up her mind on who she wants to be with because her lovelife is all over the place 🤭.
Tbh I’m not sure if I even want Ricky and Nini anymore. I love them but it just doesn’t seem to work anymore and Nini needs to be off on her own for a bit. We haven’t really seen single Nini ever, so I’d love to see that
Same. I feel like it would be good for her to be on her own for a while since she’s been attached at the hip to Ricky for most of her life. He’s part of her identity and she needs to discover herself on her own and do things for herself without worrying about what anyone else would think.
I feel like Nini has struggled with what she wants the whole show, and I think she might finally be coming to the realization that she doesn't have to put her life on hold for a relationship, and a relationship might not be what will make her happiest.
On a semi related note, I feel like the show kinda has the same problem (or trope or what have you) as a lot of similar shows, which is always adding drama to the main relationship because it makes for good tv. However, I think many people (myself included) would like to see them in a semi-stable relationship.
Fun fact about theatre in general: When you get the licensing rights to perform a musical, you legally have to perform the show as it is written without any revisions or additions to the script and music. Only the composers and writers of the shows can make changes to the scripts since they are the ones that brought the shows to life by creating them. You cannot legally change a musical’s score and script that you get the licensing rights to since a lot of musicals performed by high schools, regional theatre, and community theatre are not public domain. If someone decides to write an original song for a musical that is not the original composer would be held liable along with the entire production staff such as the cast, school, venue owner, and crew for the changes made since they would be breaking the federal copyright law that is set for movies, TV, and theatre regardless if they are part of the violation of the federal copyright law. Only the writers of the original script and the original composers of a musical can legally make changes to a show. Also fun fact about HSMTMTS Season 1, Miss Jenn and East High got fined a lot of money for adding Wondering into the production of High School Musical since it was not in the script for the musical and legally could not be added so technically Miss Jenn and the cast of High School Musical in Season 1 broke the law by adding Wondering into the performance of High School Musical. I found this out in a book Melissa De La Cruz wrote that takes place in between the first and second season called High School Musical: The Musical: The Series: The Road Trip, which was created under Disney.
I actually don’t think they’re writing Nini’s storyline to mirror Olivia’s life. Larry Saperstein (Big Red) said that they shot that episode before the success of Drivers License. Maybe the show predicted her success instead…
Honestly if Nini and Ricky just sat down, face to face, and talked to each other, this would be over in like ten minutes. But of course, the producers are going to continue to routinely squeeze my heart out😔💔
P.S., Gina totally beat those guys! She actually did real dancing, they basically just flipped in her face🙄
