In the newest version of Minitab it wants a column of categorical variables for a comparative boxplot. I'm confused since this requirement isn't in any of the older versions of Minitab.
The comparison is typically done across categories, but sometimes categories are represented as numbers. Highlight your cells in the column you want to be the categories. Click on the Data tab and choose Recode, and then To Text. That should fix the issue, but if not, I suggest going to Minitab's website and seeing if they have a fix there since it's a new change.
