    Namo Buddhay!
    It's first ranking parami as told by Buddha, as many people know this. Generosity can be in any form such as Dhamma, Service, Money, food, clothes, shelter etc . Everyone is not financial sound , but we need to try to donate in any of the form which we can afford...Just right intention is needed behind it..Buddha said whatever you have , give part of it to others.. He said Dhamma dana is the most valuable dana amongst all... If any one bring a person lost in wrong & self destructive path to the right path, shows him true way of life is also biggest generosity... Pages can be written on this.... multidimensional...
    METTA TO ALL LOVELY PEOPLE !

    Hi Nick! Great to hear from you! It's always so humbling to watch Alms. I am so fascinated with it. I often purposefully look for people to help. I spend alot of time driving for my job (typically with a truck full of tools) so I always look out for people broken down on the side of the road and will stop to help change their tire or give them a ride to fill a gas can or help however I can. If it is very cold out or snowing and I notice someone walking I will offer a ride. I always make it a point to be on the lookout for those opportunities. Having been in those situations myself I know exactly how much it sucks. I stop for coffee every morning at Dunkin Donuts and will occasionally pay for the person's order behind me in the drive thru....to find out later or the next day that that cycle continued for awhile (the current car paying for the order of the one behind it) I feel like people are naturally generous and will definitely pay things forward but most don't initiate it. Thank You for the video my friend! I hope all is well. Much Love! -Fox 🙏❤️👍

    The act of giving by the Thai people with little money is so beautiful. I am a teacher. A young mother of one of my students has terminal cancer. I drop off food on days she is suffering from chemo treatments. I do not say this in a way to bring unwarranted praise because I am undeserving, but to show that anyone can make a difference and help ease suffering.

    i got two questions: What does it mean when the lay practitioners are getting down to their knees infront of the monks after they gave them their food in their alm bowl? I learnd already that it is of course not a sign of submission. But what meaning got it actually?
    And second: I thought until this day that monks are not allowed to take money (gold and silver) but the women is giving the monks a bank note (timecode 8:09). Are there special rules for monks when money is being put in their alm bowl?
    I hope you got time to answer my questions and thank you!

    Thank YOU, Venerable Nick, for another beautiful, inspiring video. I have two questions. a) What is the chant the monks are chanting, and b) do they use their alms bowls as bells as well? They look like they would make a beautiful sound. I do teaching in my religious community for people who are shut in from COVID. I have a patio where we light some fire pans for warmth, and I lead a study session at night.

  • @elaela1436
    @elaela1436 3 роки тому

    Hello Nick, don't the monks cultivate some vegetable fields? So if they would do it, there wouldn't be nessecesity to ask people for alms.
    Furthermore, it is the person's own choice to become a monk and his own need to develop his spirituality. Why should ordinary people honor this and give alms?
    This is really a serious question, not an attack on the concept of life in the monastery. I think your videos are very beautiful. 🙏

    • @nickkeomahavong01
      @nickkeomahavong01  3 роки тому +1

      Thank you my friend. We are actually not allowed to grow or cook our own food. This then creates a symbiotic relationship with the lay community. It was intentionally designed this way.
      Pursuing a spiritual path while living in the material world is much more difficult. So monks denounce themselves in order to train spiritually. Lay people chose to pursue the worldly path. In exchange, they support one another. Monks support the lay people spiritually and lay people support the monks with their worldly needs 🙂
