I'll take a fully restored 1970-71 Challenger over a modern one. The classic early 70's Challengers had big block engines with carburators and sounded awesome. I owned a 2016 Challenger Scat Pack which I kept for almost four years. Then the problems started and I sold it. Nothing beats a 1970-71 Challenget 426 Hemi or 440 Six Pack.
I have both a 71 Challenger R/T 440 6 pack and a 2022 Challenger Redeye wide body and I can tell you that the 2022 is a far better car for everyday use. All I do is jump in the 2022 and fire it up and go, even if it has been setting for a month or more. And I know that I can drive it anywhere in the country with no issues. The 71, on the other hand, is very temperamental after sitting for any time longer than a month. The carbs need to be adjusted and it eats starters. It doesn’t ride nearly as good as my 2022 model, nor does it handle as well and the braking is terrible compared to the 22. And on top of that, the 22 smokes the 71 in acceleration by a pretty good margin. I am planning on putting a built engine in the 71 with fuel injection and pulling the stock/original engine and drivetrain and putting them in storage. I have already upgraded the front breaking and plan on putting rear disk brakes on it. These upgrades will close the gap some, but the 22 will still be a better car. If you want an original or restored muscle car, you better have something else to drive. Too many people that have never owned an old muscle car have no idea how much work is involved in keeping them on the road or just how poorly they handle. And I own several other 60s and 70s Mopars, so I know how much is needed to take care of them. If I had to sell one of the two, it would probably be the 22 since the 71 will be worth more, even with the newer models increasing great.y in value of late. But I would be selling the better car if I did.
