Poor Thuy, I kinda figured this out earlier since culturally, the oldest makes the sacrifices to help out the fam. However, what's admirable is that she doesn't seem resentful and remains sweet. Is there anyway you can ask her if provided the chance, what she would like to study in uni? Breaks my heart to see such a lovely kid not able to further her studies. Hopefully, you can touch on this when you return Troy? Maybe we can help her with her uni fees if given the chance? Thuy deserves so much more. I doubt her current job in the city offers much money or advancement. Ugh, life can be so unfair.

Universities in VN are not the same in the West where you have fund then attend at anytime you want without taking exam. You have to pass entry exam to get in and it's not easy. So if they think they can't make it, they would rather getting a job to support the families instead of keep trying.

Enrollment also depends on type of grades, extracurriculars, etc that you have and you still have to compete with other candidates. Also, yes, I agree that it makes sense if Thuy decides the best option for her is to go into workforce. But she did mention she had opportunity to go to uni but decided against it because of Nga and her younger brother. So I think she has potential as a student, but didn't have chance to explore this route BC of money. Would be great if Troy could ask her regarding specifics of her academics and whether higher education is for her. Also, idk I feel like she may say it's okay now, but I think she may feel regretful in the future about not having chance to further her education. She's still young, only 20! I mean if she enjoys social media which a lot of kids do, she could study something related and utilize this interest. Lots of startups, media companies even UA-cam channels could use her and Vietnam is growing pretty quickly so idk anything is possible.
If Thuy decides not to go to uni, the donations would still be immensely beneficial for the family as it would help NGA with uni fees and lighten the pressure/burden from Thuy? Thuy was willing to make the "huge sacrifice" so that Nga could continue with her studies even though both knew the importance that only thru education that they would have a better future. Hence it was magnanimous of Thuy. Both of them are very close to each other despite Nga is more eloquent in her speech, thoughts and expression. I admired Thuy although Nga is the better of the two.
