Must be from the Alien UFO base that's deep inside the other hill. Oh..... I'v said too much................ They're..... coming................ *Unidentifiable sounds and loud explosion in the background*
@Cra3y Toadstash No, no, honestly he is just mining. With pressurized air delivery, his own sustainable food source, off the grid power... Wait a minute...........!
Cody, I have to point something out that you may not have thought about. the plants that are growing in the mine will have slowed growth (probably significant) if they don't also have airflow. during photosynthesis, the stomata of the plant (entrances for CO2 and exits for O2) will function more efficiently if the O2 is carried away. if it builds up, it will hinder photosynthesis by attaching to a intermediate product (G3P) in the chain of reactions that create glucose because O2 has a greater affinity for it than the next substrate. the subsequent molecules that are made with the O2 and G3P are 100% useless and ultimately slow your growth. P.S. I love the series!
This is a good point. Lifting the plastic lid will help here. Hopefully the size of the cave will mean little O2 buildup but some kind of ventilation will really help here.
Scott Robson true, diffusion of O2 molecules will be faster if the cave is wider, but since he has the plants located in the back (because it is warmer), the rate of diffusion is slowed by having to move down such a long tunnel. therefore, diffusion will hardly make a difference in theory and Cody will still have growth issues.
Brill vid. I'm glad there are channels like yours for people like me who adore this kind of thing but really have absolutely zero intention of doing it in real life. Your efforts deserve rewarding!!
2:00 OK, Minecraft flashbacks. In a dark cave with redstone lights, Cody walking away with a wooden weapon. I was half expecting a blocky skeleton to appear somewhere.
The closer you can get that light to the plants the better they will grow. Moving them further away should actually make things worse. Looks like the stems have stretched a lot, and that's from not having enough light. That being said, I love what you are doing. Thanks so much for making these videos. Oh yeah, putting reflective mylar around the plants will help a lot. You want to direct every little drop of light to those plants.
If that pipe is setup as a security measure in case the shaft collapses I'd recommend you to setup 2 pipes: one for the air to go in, and another one to take the air out. Otherwise you'd be breathing the same air in the tube back and forward. (try breathing directly from it ;) )
Just started watching this series today. I was definitely glad to see that I discovered it just in time for a new video! Hope to see some more mining soon.
Cody, I absolutely love your videos. Your passion for the things that you do and your dedication to the things that you love is astounding. Thank you so much for doing what you do!
I happened upon your channel by accident when a subscriber mentioned it in another channel I'm subscribed to. Needless to say, I subscribed, binge watched and have enjoyed a large amount of your content. I have to say that the mine segment is one of my favourites and long may it continue, together with all of your other work!
Hey Cody! So I work in construction, and we deal with a lot of materials. Most of which we have scraps of and throw away. Are there any kind of scrap materials that you need that I might be able to send you?
i find tha layer of loose rock you cut into for the plants very interesting, is it a layer that goes into solid rock lower down? or is it loose rock as far as you can see?
hey Cody I love your ideas and videos and I used to work at an aquaponic nursery propagating herbs and veggies with the lights you lose alot of the usable lumans with every foot or so, so depending on the temperature of the lights try and get them as close as possible to use the light more efficiently and maybe put up some silver foil insulation or matte white plastic not gloss to reflect the light so its not absorbed by the rocks, everything helps when you are trying to imitate nature. oh and don't use al foil it can the crinkles can focus the light and burn little seedlings
I am really loving your videos Cody. I do not say this to many people on UA-cam but I am really glad your channel is blowing up exponentially, and you deserve all the credit. Keep doing it and I will watch.
Nah, a horror movie wouldn't have done it nearly as well. He has a legit reason to be filming and have good audio equipment, the tension and buildup were perfect, and there wasn't a overture of horrible screechy music, and didn't just end in a jumpscare to satisfy "Every horror buildup needs a jumpscare to finish it off"
It makes me happy to see your success with this channel and how much its grown! i hope there are more great videos coming in the future! keep up the great work
Hey Cody, is that pipe sufficient to breathe with if there is a cave-in? I think if you have a blower on it, it would have no place to displace the gasses inside the mine to, so it would not be effective. If you try and breathe through it like a snorkel, being so long wouldn't the pipe fill up with CO2 and you would get little or no fresh oxygen? I think you need two pipes for breathing inside the mine in a cave-in.
+don trump What he was trying to say is that cody would need a way to get rid of the CO2 in the mine to be able to blow O2 into it. with snorkels, the CO2 always surface back to the atmosphere.
LuanCarvalhaes im not a miner, but i thought it was jjust an emergency measure... so only to be used in case the mine collapses... so in such situation you would grab the hose and put it in your mouth to inhale outside air , while exhaling through your nose in the mine is this not the use for said hose?
+don trump Yeah that would work. What the other guy was saying is if the cave collapsed midway and he was at the back, having another tube pulling out co2 and other gases out would be good
BeeSeeBee I know this is an old comment but if you would like any specific project done or to help contribute to another project check his patreon. if you don't want to donate that's fine, just thought you might like to help toward him doing this rather than just saying it. he's a busy guy after all.
+michael lanham I understand that however there is only one way for the air to feed into the mine. What if he was in the middle and it collapsed on both sides? He wouldn't have any oxygen.
Keep in mind that you would suffocate if you put your mouth to the hose and tried to use it like a snorkel. You do not have enough volume in your lungs to push the air you exhale out of the tube. You would just end up re-breathing your own exhaled breath. This is why the old diving bells had to have an air pump.
Hey Cody, you should install the blower to that end of the pipe which is INSIDE the mine and give it a safe power connection (or store the fuel close to it) If you are alone out there and you forget to turn on the blower on the outside and the mine collapses, that pipe cannot help you. Or you could intall two blowers, one on each end and if they are run by diesel engines defenetly keep enough of that stuff in there and make sure the exit gases from the motor get processed or caught properly to not be dangerous anymore. And by the way, i learned way more about chemistry from your videos that I did in school. I really enjoy your content. And excuse any mistakes, I am not a native english speaker :)
i recently watched a video that showed people growing plants faster than normal using differnt colored lights at different stages of growth it reminded me of what you have done.
Cody just found this series and saw most of the videos are private, I bet you have your reasons but I would like to know if there’s anyway to see the rest of the videos
a little tip: you should build a door because bats or other animals will probably build a home in there... Greetings Matti from Germany I love your videos keep up the good work ;)
You are correct. Non binary explosives such as TNT or nitro glycerin require a license, even for home use without distribution. All binary explosives ARE legal for home use and can be mixed on site... Just no road based transportation once mixed. ANFO (using diesel as fuel) is a 94:6 mix, minimum hole diameter of 1" for forced insertion (such as firm tamping), and 2-3" for poured use. It is safe to use at temperatures as low as 0*c. ANFO requires a pyrotechnic det chain to have reliable detonation in stead of deflagration. A black powder primary/ flash powder booster would give low ignition temp but high output. 5 gram is a pretty slim but often reliable charge, and would only cost about $0.15 per charge. 20-25g is self confining for this mix. 30/70 Al and KClO4, $0.035/g mixed.
I am growing radishes right now too, I love how fast they grow. also have a billion other plants. mostly watch the videos to see how well yours do in the mine
the device would not be really useful if it didn't do that and it probably has a setting to let you decide if you want to measure from the back or front of the device. at least that's how I would design the device.
Hey cody, its great your not doing BLOCK CAPITAL titles... i think the viewers of youtuber are getting sick of it and well i want to say thanks for awesome
I love how you are building it from scratch and have a really nice minecraft/survival feeling. Maybe thats instinct to build a shelter and collect/use the ressources that are given to expand. You are like a pioneer building yourself a home and "unlimited" supply of ressources. I just love it and would like to spend my life this way, unfortunately there aren't many canyons here. (Maybe on Mars in the future?). Let's Play Minecraft - RL Edition! You're the super high-tech Caveman i've always wanted to be :D. Greetings from Germany/Poland!
Always love seeing another video uploaded by you, gotta say my heart dropped a little when your dog ran out of the cave! thankfully it was just your dad haha
i grew up close to a commercial limestone quarry and they blasted with holes drilled in the rock with a small charge and then ammonium nitrate to fill the rest of the space in the hole. easy way to move a massive amount of rock
Hey Cody, I just wanted to tell you how much I, and I'm sure many others, appreciate your videos. I used to hate chemistry and all the mumbo jumbo about how elements react with each other and all that nonsense. I'm more of a hands-on kinda guy so listening to a 60+ year old teacher in the same boring, monotonous voice for years made me lose interest fast. But your videos made me actually interested in learning all the properties elements have, how different elements interact with each other, and how you perform reactions to isolate different elements. I mean for being so young, it's extremely impressive what you have done in the past and what you're still doing. Please, continue to upload all these fascinating videos and keep up the great work!
+Lanr1s you had a bit of a typo there. Should NOT is what you ment I'm sure. Many have set up labs in old mines and houses thinking they were smarter than everyone who gets paid to find such places. The word for that is Hubris, and usualy is an indicator of a bad outcome. Besides, it would be hard for Cody to make these good UA-cam videos from jail.
Don't delve too deep... You will awaken the balrog, don't make the same mistakes that the dwarves did...
Hope he doesn't name it the mines of Moria
This is no mine... It's a tomb.

Your mine is much deeper than I assumed. Very cool
+NightHawkInLight Hi
amazing to see you are interested in stuff I like
Hey nighthawkinlight do you think armstrongs mixture could work?
I would hate to piss off Cody. He has a potential killer outside the cave so what does he choose as a weapon, a log XD
That's all he needs. He's skilled in the art of wood. You go Cody!
xv280x Is cody a timburr?
+Alpha Nerd nah. He's just a badass
Alpha Nerd LMFAO
Alpha Nerd what do you mean a log? He just equipped his stick from the inventory. What version of minecraft are you using?
15:15 So you put the helmet on after you leave the cave? Better late than never, I think....
Cody, interview your dad on camera!
I imagine that the history of your family and that ranch would be a very interesting subject matter.
+CaninesBestFriend Props !
this is like a discovery tv show minus the ads and more realism
News headlines any day now: "Crazy man in Utah starts zombie apocalypse with mushrooms he grew in a cave."
+Hendlton And then the shroom trip ends.
The solar panel has fallen, the feedbag at the entrance... Aliens.

this should be a TV show on the discovery channel
OMG YES
Too cool for TV.
Yeah what double dare said. UA-cam is cooler.
UA-cam master race
+AARON TENA like me
I like that this form of education feels more real when compared to a TV show. TV feels fake and untrustworthy.
Sorapis420 tv only shows success out of a ton of hard work so pretty much not even quarter of the film is used
Even... Drum roll please habrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr! BILL NYE THE SCIENCE GUY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

by the end of this series we will find out he works for vault tec

There he shows his secret magic mushroom plantation :D
Is that why they're hidden in a cave? :D
He's also got some marijuana
too small to be a plantation

I love it when the text you edit into your videos directly contradicts what you're saying
OMG the part where your dad came and you didn't know who was there was seriously scary! It was like one of those "found footage" scary movies.
You give me loads of inspiration Cody. Thanks man! Always nice to see Kanyon with you.
Deep in the cave, someone whistles, takes a huge log, walks outside, wife kind of starts running........ oh it's my dad.
They live in the middle of nowhere. Someone whistles on your property you're grabbing the nearest tool XD

My favourite series on youtube. I hope you continue the mine for years to come, it's awesome to see it happen from the beginning
mine is probably his precious metal refining :)

Me: Stops absolutely everything and frantically tries to find the video
same. spent all night last night trying to catch up. 4am next morning im back at it again lol
This series, like basically everything else on your channel, is utterly fascinating! Thanks for uploading
i find tha layer of loose rock you cut into for the plants very interesting, is it a layer that goes into solid rock lower down? or is it loose rock as far as you can see?

Its only loose near the tunnel, I presume broken up by the blasting that was done.

well that makes sense. forgot about the blasting effecting the surrounding rock.

using the oar which you find is great. in use after abandoned for decades feels simply good

Holy shit 1:57 scared the shit out of me
I bet you had a great inspirational role model. Also You and Canyon make a great team. So happy for you dude.
Cody you should put valves set distances down your ventilation tube. In case you get caved in somewhere the tube isn't feeding fresh air too.
the whole point of that tube is to feed fresh air into the mine if there is a cave in.
+michael lanham I understand that however there is only one way for the air to feed into the mine. What if he was in the middle and it collapsed on both sides? He wouldn't have any oxygen.

Cody I'm addicted.
