I’ve been waiting for this video since I found your channel! I almost like that you’re not a “finance professional” because it seems a lot more realistic and doable coming from someone who is actually just living their life making a system work! Thanks for sharing :)
I LOVED this video, it was so super helpful. As a preschool teacher on a lower income I have to be very careful and strategic with my money, and these types of videos help keep me motivated to reach my goals.I can watch finance videos all day haha Keep up the great work! xoxoxo
This was really helpful!! I'm a college sophomore and want to start saving from my part time jobs so that I can graduate with a decent amount in my savings!!
I’m crazy and I have write down everything I spend in a notebook then log them into the EveryDollar App... tedious but makes me see what I spend 2 times and especially with the EveryDollar App I can see how much I have left in the budget of that category. I know if you pay for the app it links to your bank but I actually prefer to do it myself so I can see it. I did an excel sheet for awhile but I prefer to have it on my phone cause I use that more than my computer!
i honestly feel like tracking it how you do tediously makes you smarter about your money bc you have to think about every purchase! thanks for the video it was super helpful!
Hi! Have you heard about the 50-30-20 rule? It is a formula where you take 100% and split it in 50% for your expenses (rent, loans, food) 30%. For activities, hobbies, coffee and 20% for savings. I suggest you use those savings to have an emergency fund of at least 3-6 months and after that you keep saving but focusing on other goals such as buying stock on index funds, buying a new car, a down payment for a house or traveling. I hope this helps, greetings from Venezuela! Keep up the vlogs I love DC. I have family there and I enjoy going to visit
I’m the same as you. I keep track of all my expenses too but I used a third party app called Spending App. It does exactly what you do. Every time I spend a dollar I enter it in the app and it breaks it down by each category. It’s an ok app but could use improvement.
I absolutely loveeeee budgeting. I don’t get how people don’t and just wing it? Thank you for this vid! I love seeing how other people budget. One of my 2020 goals was to save 10k so this was great! And I completely love putting things in manually. It feels like I’m in more control of my finances rather than everything just being automatic and I’m constantly seeing it
Tedious is good! I’m the same way and honestly... it helps me avoid unnecessary spending ❤️ Tracking everything isn’t for everyone, but for me (and you!) it is AWESOME! (Plus I feel more I’m control which is nice ☺️)
This motivated me to get my budget in order. I've been getting lazy and spending extra on things I don't need (like ordering in and buying things that sound fun to do while I'm stuck at home bored) and having a tracker in place to see it all will really help me to realize what's acceptable and where I need to "trim the fat". Thank you for sharing!
I started using the app YNAB (You need a budget) at the end of last year and I gotta say it’s completely changed my relationship with money and how I approach savings and budgeting. A lot of what the app teaches us you already do amy, it’s just a little more automated. It does have a yearly fee but I’ve saved exponentially more than the cost of the app and couldn’t recommend it more to anyone who asks how I budget my money. Might be worth checking out, even though it seems your system works pretty well already! I love learning about how other people budget! I also live in DC so This is even more interesting considering we probably have similar lifestyles. Really enjoyed this :)
I do this exact same thing! I created my own spreadsheets in Google Sheets and programmed the columns and rows to add everything up based on the category I input for each expense. I have the Sheets app on my phone so I can update the numbers while I’m out and about if need be! I opted for this DIY method because I couldn’t find a (free) app that was customizable enough for my lifestyle/spending habits. I’ve been doing it this way since the beginning of 2020 and I’ve been able to save a lot more just by being able to visualize all my spending and earning in one place because it makes me more conscious of where my money is going and where I could allocate it more effectively/wisely.
Love this--it's so interesting and relatable! You're my favorite youtuber because I can actually relate to you on so many levels! We both graduated the same time and have had a similar track post-grad it seems like, so I deff get budgeting Inspo from you. I actually budget really similarly but I physically hand write everything down in my planner LOL to make it even more tedious and hold myself accountable. I have the same goal of 10k by 2021 so heres to hoping we get there! (which I am sure we will :) )
I've been binge-watching your channel since I found it I just have to say that I love every video you post! This was super helpful! Thanks for sharing.
thanks for sharing! I really enjoyed this video and from your perspective since you are not "a finance professional" - a lot more relatable and easy to follow!
ahh thanks for this, it's helpful to see how others track their finances! I'm in my first year out of college too, and trying to save, so I LOVE content like this
I started tracking my finances this January, when I moved out from home and got my own apartment. Since I lost my job now due to Covid-19, I am lucky to be quite strict about my spendings.
Love this budgeting idea! I've been attempting to do something similar for the past year, but find that I'll start budgeting and then slack off for a while and then try to get back into it... repeat lol. It's a learning process for sure
@@amyrauch Haha nothing wrong with that, I do it more so when I'm too lazy to go update everything on my computer I can just pull out my phone and make updates quickly.
Passive income not easy as said, the pandemic has made it clear that living from paycheck to paycheck is not enough to meet financial obligations if unemployed because, salary is predominantly devoted to expenses. I'm literally tired of overnight shift just to earn extra income for the kids education, and would really appreciate any tips or insights that will guide me away from the stringency of a lean purse 🙏
@aunty dote very impressive. I have over 3 IRS's worth $350,000 and i plan on retiring within a year. How can i get some assistance from you on how to double up my profits?
Idk why I'm so into budgeting videos like this lol, it's like once you start saving money you addicted. I use mint like some other people mentioned 👌 Most of thew people I know are graduating with -30k tbh :/
do you use a high-yield savings account? also last year before this 10k goal did your amount in savings vary every month, or was it just smaller than what you need now to hit 10k?
its just a regular savings for now bc i still need access to the money, and last year i didnt have amounts per month. i just transfered money when i could!
I do something very similar! I write down in a calendar how much I spent each day. I ordered a 2 books and a couple pairs of jeans online. The amount for those items were on my account one day and the next disappeared and then got charged separately for the books... Would you put the amount that you spent on the day you made the purchase or when the purchase was posted because it ruins my budget for the following month? Also, I have no idea where to put the amount.
HI.. Love this! The market is doing well lately and i'm frantic about getting started investing.. while reading today i came across an investor who made over $450,000 in a month during the great recession.. as a beginner how can i maximize the markets condition to suit me now that it looks promising?
The market is going up now which makes it a good time to get started and make good profit. It is much better if you get in touch with a professional for guidance.

I am also a preschool teacher! Budgeting is sooo important for everyone but especially if you have a lower income you need to be extra disciplined.
yesss, I love finance vids too!

yes i have! once i hit my savings goal, i will definitely be focusing on other financial goals like stocks or investing

I just found your channel, I am going to be a senior in college in the fall and I am absolutely loving your content and this video is amazing ❤️

yes for sure, I definitely find myself spending money when I don’t need to and this helps me be more accountable!!!
Y'all should try Mint. It's a great budgeting app that does all of the tracking for you!
ive tried it but it wouldnt connect to my bank bc of my security preferences
Brianna R is it a free app?

Sorry to hear that :(

LOL yes, once you build the habit you wont even think twice about it!!!
Why don't you use Google Sheets and then you can just add straight to the spreadsheet on the mobile app and will keep everything updated.
honestly a very valid suggestion, I’m just so used to my system I can’t imagine switching hahahaha

thank you Emilia!
If you have never budgeted I like You Need A Budget (YNAB for short) they have a website, a book and a UA-cam channel. I really like their approach.
I’ll look into it, thank you!
