The Sunlight thing for vampires came in when the movie Nosferatu came out. Dracula in the novel was not vulnerable to sunlight but he did not possess his strength either during daylight hours.

I do not remember what the word was specifically, all I remember was that it had something to do with Aztec temples, & it netted me 77 points.

Roman legions had a capital punishment they called decimation. Decimation involved that every member of the legion drew lots, the losers was to be beaten, by fist and feet, until death by their "surviving" comrades. It was a punishment viewed as the worst, as you had to beat, often, a close friend to death, or be beaten to death by your friends. It is why it was only dolled out to, what they viewed as the worst crime. This was by and large when a legion broke and fled the battlefield, when, if they had held the line, they'd won or when them fleeing cost other legions great casualties.
It did make those legions that suffered decimation to hold the line to the last, as few wanted to risk going through the ordeal again.
And it is commonly mistakenly used in common literature and shows to mean wiped out or nearly wiped out.
Isn't this something that happens in Fallout New Vegas done by the Legion? I've seen my husband play. They call it the lottery I think. They do it to people they think deserve it.

Ooh! Animal name word thingies are a favorite bit of trivia of mine! Alongside bovine and ovine, there's also feline and canine which most people know. Some may also know porcine, ursine, lupine, vulpine, and equine - those are pigs, bears, wolves, foxes, and horses respectively. There's also serpentine - snakes, though often pronounced differently and denoting a back and forth (dare I say, snake-like or serpentine) movement. But my favorites have to be hircine - which I just love the spelling and pronunciation of (her-sign) - that's goats, and asinine - for donkeys! Yes, really. Donkeys (asses) are asinine.
May you forever be cursed with this almost certainly useless information for the rest of your lives!
