I met Arvo Part a few weeks ago. He's a very kind man. Not afraid of silence. His questions have stayed with me.

his music is prayer... you can hear the devotion in it. where and how he uses the stillness and silences in his music, causes it to truly pierce you with it's fullness. it is like he has taken the silence/stillness of baptism... that moment when you must hold your breath as you are fully submerged into the water... for that moment while you are under, there is no breath, you close your eyes, and you hear nothing.... therefore to be pulled up out of the water and reborn, *that* is the true sacred moment, and it is almost like Part has found a way to put it into his compositions.

+Sahajatara Blake thank you! i have always found that i 'hear' his music more with my Spirit than my ears... he is an incredibly gifted man and composer... it is not an easy thing to have your audience be able to hear your devotion expressed like this in your music, without it actually being 'Gospel' music. it is very subtle, yet very present. i have friends who are not really 'Spiritual' people who have even told me that they can hear what i am trying to explain. absolutely amazing man and composer.

Each note gets its end in darkness, individually. There is a breathing. A mysterious breathing resurrecting from each collapses. Is the darkness enlightned - fiery in its deeper core ?

      Looking at the sun,
      the eye can't
      support that,
      and you think you look
      into a stange dark circle,
      but you know
      that
      is not the darkness,
      because
      the darkness
      is something dead.

I find that Pärt’s melancholia is more redemptive in nature.

Kui ei võta autasu võlga. Noodid kui nofrid, sümbolid noodikirjas, mis ei muutu elu ega surma möödudes, elu ja surm on mainos mida igavik naudib küündimatute mõistmatusena.
