  • BTS is a South Korean boy band that has gained worldwide popularity for their music, dance, and empowering messages. They have a massive global fanbase known as the "ARMY". This documentary aims to explore the band's journey to success, from their start in South Korea to their global tours and accomplishments. It delves into the band's music, members, and their impact on pop culture and their fans.
The rise of BTS, a South Korean boy band who named themselves "Bulletproof Boy Scouts" to break free from stereotypes and expectations. They realized that their message could reach further and announced that their name would also stand for "Beyond the Scene" to encompass growth. BTS continued to make music and inspire their fans with their message of self-empowerment and breaking free from expectations. They are known as Bōdan Shōnendan in Japan and have grown beyond the scene.
BTS is a South Korean hip hop group formed by Big Hit Entertainment in 2010. The group consists of seven members who were selected through auditions. Their debut single album, "2 Cool 4 Skool", addressed the anxiety faced by young people and received moderate success. However, their unique style and willingness to address taboo topics, such as the Korean education system, helped them gain popularity in Korea and internationally. BTS continued to release music that resonated with their fans and also showcased their versatility and humor through variety shows. They were recognized as New Artist of the Year in South Korea in 2013.
BTS released "Skool Luv Affair EP", the final part of their "school trilogy," which topped the charts in South Korea and appeared on Billboard's World Albums Chart. The EP featured singles "Boy in Luv" and "Just One Day". The band debuted in the US with a concert in West Hollywood and performed at KCON in Los Angeles. They released their album "Dark & Wild," which reached number two in South Korea and featured singles "Danger" and "War of Hormone". The band embarked on their first concert tour across South Korea and beyond. BTS launched their first Japanese studio album, "Wake Up," and held their 1st Japan Tour. Their world tour, spanning across 18 cities and 13 countries, drew 80,000 spectators and was a success.
BTS released The Most Beautiful Moment in Life, Part 1, the first album in their youth trilogy, exploring the beauty and anxiety of being young. The lead single "I Need U" was a chart-topper, and "Dope" was viewed over 100 million times on UA-cam. The group went on a world tour and released a Japanese album, Wake Up, and embarked on their third concert tour, The Most Beautiful Moment in Life: On Stage. The trilogy concluded with The Most Beautiful Moment in Life: Young Forever, which was highly anticipated and topped charts in South Korea and the Billboard 200. BTS released their second Japanese studio album, Youth, and Wings, which combined youth with temptation and adversity, became a record-breaking success, topping charts in 23 countries and debuting at number 26 on the Billboard 200.
The paragraphs describe the phenomenal rise of the K-pop group BTS, who have broken records and won awards around the world. They have released successful albums such as "Love Yourself: Her" and embarked on a world tour, selling out arenas in the US. Their music has a message of urging change and promoting self-love. They have made history by being the first K-pop group to win awards and perform at major events such as the American Music Awards and the Billboard Music Awards. They have also collaborated with UNICEF for their "Love Myself" campaign. BTS has captured the hearts of millions of fans worldwide with their infectious music, stunning performances, and commitment to making a positive impact.
The South Korean K-Pop group BTS had a successful 2018, winning major awards and releasing hit albums and singles. They became the first K-Pop album to debut at #1 on the Billboard 200 and their single "Fake Love" became the first non-English song to debut in the top 10. They also embarked on a successful world tour and collaborated with Steve Aoki. However, they faced controversy over their clothing and flags featuring controversial imagery, leading to an apology from their management. Despite this, BTS continued to make an impact on the music industry and gained recognition for their efforts to address social issues and mental health.

      I don't.
It's not bad. 4 of 5 stars. It's on the top end of documentaries.
But Rice Squad's history is better (and more fun).
As an Intro Taylor Mari's Bangtan 7 is also very good.
And the best is still "Rise of Bangtan".
      Try those.
      Why?
Because there are a few "mistakes" in this vid.
The reason why they didn't debut as a Hiphop group is financial. In early 2011 numbers told them that they couldn't debut a Hiphop group. The label had too much debt for that. Without that the vocalline would have not debuted with BTS.
Army was established on July 9th 2013.
Their first real solo concert was 18.10.2014. (that other thing was a showcase under the rules of Mnet - not a real concert - and one of many acts of Kcon).
And that T-Shirt incident? Maybe look up the fans "White Paper Project". it is also in English:
Korea has more reason to celebrate the atomic drop than the US to celebrate their Independence Day (and a. The US citizens make a nuisance out of themselves when they celebrate it outside of the US and b. they dropped a second atomic bomb just to find out what happens as the bomb was a different modification. From a winning the war standpoint it was unnecessary).
      Why?
You can look up the project but I can also summarize it: because Japan did to Korea pretty much everything - for far longer - that the Nazis did to the people they thought were lesser - with maybe the exception of the gas chamber: They tried to erase them - so you could call that a tried Genocide.
And there is also the fact that the vids and photos that are cut in are from different times.
      BTS had it hard.
If you want an idea of how hard try xCeleste updated hardship vid. The Japanese incident is also part of it and it's context.
Not to mention that their solo work (which is also under BTS) is not mentioned. For example J-Hope headling Lollapalooza - the first time of a Korean act to headline an American/International music festival - and selling the most tickets in its history. Or Jimin debuting "Like Crazy" on No. 1 on the HOT100 - only the second time that an Asian solo singer reached that spot (the other was a Japanese singer a few decades before that.)
And Benefiz Concert? that was a "free" concert for Busan to try to get the World Expo to their city.
BTS has over 70 Million followers on their official youtube channel. I'm not even sure that their MVs are on there now. Upper guesses for Army are over 200 million - not everyone has social media accounts and follows them officially.
Don't get me wrong. It is good that this documentary exists. It is even important. But it could be better. (we do have better, sorry)

@@ruthfischer7615 exacly.. at 17:30 they literaly said that BTS had Nazi flags and clothing and that they openly support them which is just twisting the truth so much.. i guess all ARMYs praising them are new, so they aren't able to tell what is media play/missinformation and what actually happened since they werent there

@@ruthfischer7615 Do you think your comment was long enough!! GEEZE! 😳
This is not a documentary from a large company. Why couldn't you accept it for what it is - a darn good documentary put together with a lot of hard work and love.
Lastly - who assigned you the job of critic"? And - why don't you think about someones feelings before you go off tapping out a negative comment almost as long as the book War and Peace!

They are a phenomenon, for sure. As someone who can remember The Beatles legendary appearance in 1964 on TV in the USA, BTS is the only thing I’ve seen that was that big. There are so many parallels. I can still remember sitting there with my family watching the Beatles. I’m sure there are young people today who will remember the first time they saw BTS.

Who could have imagined 7 guys from South Korea would take the world by storm? 7 guys who brought K-pop to the four corners of the world. They still awe the world and abide the rule to enlist in the military. These 7 guys make their parents, family, friends, and Army proud to support them. There will be no other phenomenon quite like BTS. 7 talented, artistic, charming guys, who share their love for music and entertaining, comes once in a lifetime.

    They didn’t name themselves.
Their producer, Bang Si-hyuk, named them.
They did NOT rise to fame quickly.
Intense bullying culture in Korea and prejudice in the west. Just to name a few. Small and poor in Korea. Asian and foreign in the US.
They and their fans clawed their way to the top armed only with their shared love of music and of each other.
    Thank you for this video.

I walked back and forth just not to make me happy always. I listen to your music always. I seldom listen to your music even though I am going to sleep feeling better and relax cos I believe in you. I seldom listened to other musician except the music of the 60,70,80 and 90 but most likely your music. Before I listen to other Korean kpop but now no more. Just BTS boys play list over and over tho I don't speak your language. That how I supported you. Believe in God cos God is within you. The only musician that give back to the community, invited by the president of USA and love by the fans all over the world. Thanks again for singing in English . The only musician that can sing in English and Korean. Love by all nationalities all over the world.

64 year young BTS ARMY since 2013. Mom is 92 year young great grandma who's also ARMY. I've been to 5 concerts and have been happy to share 2 of those concerts with Mom. A photo of Mom at PTD concert in Las Vegas went viral.
My first BTS concert was at the Staples Center in LA, 2018. I had what I call my "V moment." After the concert my cousin and I stayed seated. Everyone left the venue and the group walked off the stage. Next thing is I see V walking back out. He walked out to the end of the stage. Stood with his arms behind his back looking out into the dim, empty seats. We were sitting to his left. No didn't scream, I'm older and not going to be that screaming fan. I did have a big fan with V's face on it. So we stood up and I held it up. V did see us, we were really close!!! He smiled that big smile at us, pointed two fingers at us and I about died. We just stood there smiling at each other. Something I'll never forget. It was surreal.
Now usually the staff kick people out of venue when the concert ends. I just found it strange that nobody kicked us out. Definitely highlight of my life. 💜💜💜

Great documentary and there was definitely some information in there that i didn't know or had forgotten about, but you left out one important detail, you mentioned JIN doing the QUEEN chant at WEMBLEY STATIUM but you forgot that BTS were only the 12th artist's in the world to have a sold out concert there. WEMBLEY STATIUM is the most iconic stadium in the world and it's the stadium that every music artist wants to play there and to have sold out shows there, and BTS achieved this, SUGA said in the dvd of the concert that WEMBLEY was their dream stage to play at but they never thought it would happen and they couldn't believe it when they were told, now they can tick that dream off their list 💜🔥💙💖🖤❤🤎💚 💜🔥💜

There is no understanding the "phenomenon" without digging into the hardships, the artistry, the thought process, and the relationship with army. I doubt non-fans will truly understand BTS' success from this. I admit it would take more than 46mn though, so it's a good starting point!

I'm not critiquing the video. I like the video.
I just wanted to add this. I remember that Nazi controversy being false, edited images with the hat Namjoon wore and BTS taking photos at a memorial just like other people were and not to mention the concert they did with Seo Taiji that was wrongfully accused of Nazi images when it had nothing to do with that. They also did apologize even when it wasn't actually needed. They were wrongfully accused multiple times. And that Japan atomic bomb shirt thing was also something entirely different from what actually happened. Haters doing everything to bring down BTS and none of their tactics actually worked. I never liked people who lie about others and I will never like liars.
I'm glad ARMY was there to help BTS and to help them grow as individuals. Plus, people don't realize that ARMY has been doing charity work for years and BTS have been too, it's not something new that they randomly started doing.
Good job on the documentary :) 💜

Thank you for sharing your thoughts and clarifying your position on the documentary. I'm glad to hear that you enjoyed it.
You make some valid points about the controversies that BTS has faced in the past. It's unfortunate that false information and edited images can spread so quickly online, and it's important to always fact-check and seek out multiple sources before forming a conclusion.
It's also admirable to hear about the positive impact that both BTS and their fanbase, ARMY, have had through their charitable work. Giving back to the community is always a great way to make a difference and contribute to the greater good.
Overall, it's clear that BTS has faced their fair share of challenges and criticisms, but they have continued to grow and succeed with the support of their fans and their own hard work and dedication. Thank you again for sharing your thoughts, and I'm glad you enjoyed the documentary.

17:45 are you serious??? You BLAMED BTS FOR THAT??? Nope nope nope
Like sure there were many mistakes in the documentary so far, but this isnt just a mistake, this is you literally SAYING BTS HAD NAZI FLAGS AND CLOTHING?????
Wtf ... like i get you making a lot of small mistakes by not researching enough and not doing your job, but actually making a whole section where you literally say BTS are individuals who openly support Nazis is on another level
Idk how some of you ARMYs in the comment are praising a 'documentary' that falsly says BTS openly support Nazi is truly beyond me.
The BTS Nazi flags mentioned were actually SEO TAIJI FLAGS AT A SEO TAIJI 20 year anniversary CONCERT and they had a Seo Taiji symbol. They had NOTHING to do with BTS except BTS performing at that concert. (Plus they werent Nazi flags, they were simply red flags with a black sybol which had people REACHING just so they can drag BTS down)
And as for the member wearing a shirt. HE DIDNT EVEN WEAR IT THEN. Japan just legaly lost at court for THEIR CRIMES during World war 2. And so they attacked the most popular Korean symbol which was BTS and they posted YEARS old picture of a member wearing a shirt representing Korean independance from Japan after ww2. There is literally a whole project called The White Paper project done by ARMY on the whole history of that. Wow even over 5 years later the media takes every chance to twist the truth to drag members down and smear their names with missinformation and media play.
I truly cant belive you just lied like that about such a huge and important topic and then moved on without any fact checking truth

This video misses the mark in a lot of critical places. For one, the video completely misrepresented the Korean independence t-shirt and the very complicated Japan/Korean tensions (Japan was losing a court case for slave labor during the violent decades long colonial rule of Korea and decided to use BTS as a scapegoat for a member wearing a liberation shirt; the backlash that came from it was fueled by Japanese far right extremist hate groups and picked up by Japanese media and then world media who lacked the language/history to represent the issue properly). Also showing Big Hit's beginning using the HYBE building....Big Hit was almost bankrupt and their building was on a humble street in Seoul with moldy floors. Then mentioning Blackpink at the end. Blackpink faced none of the struggles that BTS did and benefitting from every single move they made in the west. Every talk show and appearance they went on was something built by BTS, and that's not reflected here......like I'm sorry, but this documentary failed on so many fronts to accurately present their story beyond the surface level and the extreme discrimination they faced in the west which made it possible for other Korean artists after them to have success.
They were in danger of being blacklisted in their own country for a song and are currently being shutout by Billboard in the US and with radio.
It's an okay intro, but there's so much more beyond the numbers when it comes to BTS. They got the numbers despite having no major label in their home country or the west.
Ngl, I feel like I lot of the was generated via AI/Chat GPT.

This can bring attention to BTS so thank you still. However, since it has no mention of hardships BTS has gone through, and many are unimaginable things, this is more of a summary of their discography and their current state. I wish for viewers to acknowledge that or the video could have stated the existence of those hardships instead of just the ending ment. And I know the videos can be edited, and as an Army i am requesting you to delete the "Shirt controversy" since it is full of misinfo, making it seem like the shirt had elements of n*zis when its the other way around and the people they received backlash from are supporters of that mindset in japan. Because that part is far from the truth (not even mentioning the backgroun of that boycott) I am firmly requesting that part to be deleted.
Otherwise, it was a good overview of their careers excluding the hardships, and no video can encapsulate those unless there's to be a seperate video dedicated to that.

Although all members have repeated many times their support for each other, and that solo work is in support of BTS while members fulfil their military service, sometimes it is still reported as a maybe. Ask any Member, or ARMY and they will tell you BTS will be back together Dec. 2025 and start up again shortly thereafter. They always said they would go 1) because surely the company forced them to say it because of the image.
      2) because they couldn't say "we don't want to do it" because they had been criticized in Korea and said they were unpatriotic or that they wanted to evade the service or things like that!

missing element of critical importance is it can't be emphasized enough that BTS had many struggles hardships and endured a lot, which is why they are so humble
