Clawdia: Black and white with a beauty mark. She has thumbs... wouldn't surprise me if she stole them. She's pure chaos but she purrs and cuddles me so it's fine.
Chunky: Black with a white patch on his chest. Has thumbs. Needy, crusty, whiny baby... can't live without him.

"I know I talk too much about my cats." You say that like it's a problem!!🥴 It is not. Hearing about cats and books is my happy place 🫶
❤️
STOP THE LITTLE PAW UNDER THE DOOR 😭💖
No door shall be closed.. ever 🐈⬛
@@BookswithEmilyFox one of my cats takes that literally and she can open the doors 😅 we had to buy the baby stopping mechanisms you put under the handle
I’m glad I have boring round handles because I’m sure they would figure it out too 😂
"I feel like I got hit by a truck overnight" is so relatable
Same.
17:15 🤣😿 We love hearing about your babies!
You need to put child locks on your cabinets 🤣🤣
I was trying to avoid it. Especially once they started with the oven drawer because idk if it will work on that but I cracked and ordered some 😭
the cat paw under the door lmao
She never gives up 😂
I invested in a cat brush called Furminator. It was like $33 but it's amazing at getting rid of Rusty's shedding fur so I don't have to clean up as much cat fur.
Sometimes I get so confused during your videos b/c I can’t tell if it’s my cats meowing and making noise in the background or your cats 😂😂 My cats also love to scream for no reason! And they never leave me alone as well lol, so I feel your pain!
Haha even when I edit it happens to me!
I think if you feel that way about Good Omens & Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy etc. I would recommend starting with a later Terry Pratchett! His early stuff is very strong on the parody side of things and slowly transitions to stories with more meaningful emotional plots (with some jokes still of course) and for me it was easier to enjoy the earlier stuff after reading a few of the later ones. For you I'd recommend The Wee Free Men, also about witches, although it's YA rather than adult (but the kind of YA that's like Howl's Moving Castle, very readable as an adult but something kids would enjoy as well). Otherwise I typically recommend Going Postal, it's my favorite and one of his best!
Witches Abroad is a fun Discworld book, though anything with Granny Weatherwax and Nanny Ogg is a good time.
Monstrous Regiment is also a great starting point!
Going Postal is truly one of his best books 👏 and I also personally adore Guards Guards and that series
That paw under the door sums up my life, if it's not my 13 year old cat, it's my 4 year old son😂
Yes! Do a recommendation video! Also, I don't think you talk too much about the cats. I like when you talk about/ show the cats.
Your cats are adorable and its fun to see how happy they make you. Honestly though, I find myself skimming to get to the book reviews because that's mainly why I watch.
That’s totally fair! I try to balance it and not include them in my regular videos and only in the vlogs. Some vlogs have more cat content than others depending on if I’ve been reading lol
@@BookswithEmilyFox You are Lovely, your cats are lovely and I appreciate everything you do. Thank you Emily😘
J'aime beaucoup ce challenge. J'ai aussi l'impression qu'il met aussi moins de pression sur tes épaules que celui ou tu piges un livre.
Aussi, c'est impossible de trop parler de chats!
Super vidéo comme toujours :)
I love when you add your cats because it is so fun
I ran to my kindle to download The Bookshop and the Barbarian after hearing your negative review because I adore those comp titles!! Hopefully I love it ❤🤣
Tbf I didn’t mean it negatively! It was a nice book just not a favorite!
One of my late cats also loved to get into cabinets and eat everything. We ended up having to put bolt locks on our kitchen cabinets and a new pet-proof garbage can, haha!
I didn't pay much attention to whether you can report a review on Goodreads. I might do that for the next one I see for a book that hasn't been released yet, and the person even says they haven't read it.
The last murder at the end of the world actually is my favorite book by Stuart Tustin now, but it’s definitely very different to his previous ones!
I’m glad it worked for you!
I had a comment removed for 'Casual Vacancy'. I said I'd recommend it if you need something to put under a table leg to fix a wobbly table.
Your cats are so cute. I love Claudia's huge paws haha
Have you considered magnetic child locks for your cabinets to keep the little angels out?
Also, I would love a beginner friendly fantasy recs video. I used to read a lot of fantasy 10-15 years ago and I'm trying to get back into it. I tried a high fantasy novel recently and had to DNF it because I realized I was not ready for it 😅
If you want some beginner fantasy I would suggest tress of the emerald sea, a wizards guide to defensive baking, warbreaker, a wizard of Earthsea, or Eragon. These are all good fun easy YA or NA fantasy books to help you get into the genre.
Hi, Emily! I’m here doing research in the hopes of trying the One Week One Shelf challenge! And bonus! I really enjoy your vibe and plan to watch more of your content in future!
I love seeing your cats. I'm here for the cute crazy cat content! Also, I love your videos on reading books from your own bookshelves. It really encourages and motivates me to read from my own bookshelves too! 😊
I've seen one a Goodreads review person writing they added a note it is an ARC because they removed their other review because it was missing that. Don't know if it's that, but maybe if you did a review before the book came out ...
it was removed just this week and they emailed me to say I didn’t review the book and just included a link to an external website
I love the deep so much and really good book and hope you love it Emily 📚🌞🌺🌺💙📚📙🫶🏻💙🌺🩷💙💙🩷🩷🧡📖🌈🌈💗💕🩵🌻🌻❤️🩷📖💞💕💗🧡📙📙🫶🏻📖🧡🌈🌈🌸🌸💓💓💚💚💕💕🌻📖📖🧡🧡📖💛💛🌈🌈🌈
One of my cats, Hazel, is very upset that your cats are crying lol
At this point I swear you don’t have pets, you have children. Those cats keep you on your toes!!!
I laughed out loud about the pancake mix. Years ago my mom had sent me homemade Christmas cookies and while I was at work my two cats got them out of the cabinet. I came home to red and green sprinkles all over the kitchen and two cats on a sugar rush.
Absolutely loved iron widow! It’s very fast-paced
I love hearing about your cats. I have two cats and one of them is always into everything and she is grown. I don't know how I would handle three.
I think you would really enjoy tender morsels! it's the retelling of rose red and snow white and it deals with generational trauma, life as a woman in the middle ages etc. really reccomend
Some cats never grow out of the crazy. We have a 11.5 year old cat who's still insane 😂I hope yours calm down more than him haha
Don't say that lol I hope so too!!
I feel you Emily kittens are just a lot. I babysittet the foster kittens from a friend as a teenager for a week and that week was enough havoc to let me know if I adopt again it would not be a kitten. As cute as they are I totally get you they always find a new way to create chaos one of the fosters was blind did that stop her from creating chaos? oh hell no 😂
But then when we went to the shelter there werent any older cats that fit our livestyle and we adopted two 2-3 year old male cats that kept ganging up on the other cats.
Not to worry you they do have calmed down with the age but still at 13-14 right now they have a lot of energy. Hang in there!😂
I had an author like my Goodreads review once, which was a little awkward, because although I think I was mostly positive I did also include a few criticisms as well, and I only gave it 3 stars, but I guess they were okay with that.
Ouf. I want to pretend authors don’t exist when I review a book so I feel you!
The way I see it, you read the book and are talking about it. This is good for the author and the book. What you think of the book is constructive criticism, so technically, a bonus for them.
Yeah I usually try and mention what I didn’t like and why so others can decide what to do. I rarely tell people not to read a book so it’s still good for the author!
Dandelions are edible if you want to try them. Look up online how to cook and prepare them. 🌻
Honestly there are too many animals in my yard for me to trust it 😂
@@BookswithEmilyFox Oh lol good point
I spent a lot of the middle section of this yelling "What do you want?" at my cats before realising it was YOUR cats who were shouting 😂
Chunky would not stop 😂
Ooh a fantasy filled end of 2024, yay!! Read Sanderson so you are up to date before book 5! 😂
(I am yet to start my reread. I’m intimidated but excited. Aaaaah.)
I love your videos so much! I love seeing the cats!! I have ✨6✨ cats of my own and they are my babies & I share them with everyone and anyone! 😂 these books sound good, I will have to check them out!
6?! How are you surviving? Please tell me they’re older lol
@@BookswithEmilyFox Yes they are all older now! The mommas turned 5 this year and their kittens turned 4! And then the boy we adopted just showed up in our yard, we have no idea how old he is but we have had him 2 years now!
I'm glad that you are, at least, hanging in there with the littles😂. I would love a recommendation video. We can get all the scoop on two books instead of one!
So I was wondering do you talk to your cats in English or French or both ? 😊 Do they understand you in both languages ?
Mostly English. I’ve taught them a couple words that they now know too (nap time, food, treat, kiss, etc) but I do give them lots of French nicknames lol
I'm bummed you were disappointed by the Stuart Turton one. I was wanting to pick it up. I still might. Did you enjoy his second book The Devil and Dark Water?
It was okay! The ending wasn't my favorite but the journey was overall enjoyable.
The Deep is one of my favorite books ever. I flagged my favorite quotes, and ended up flagging half the book.
There’s a song by Daveed Diggs called The Deep that inspired it and it’s definitely worth a listen too.
Some fantasy recommendations:
- the ninth rain by Jen Williams
- promise of blood by Bryan mcclellan
- yumi and the nightmare painter by brando sando
- empire of the vampire by Jay Kristoff
- the tainted cup by robert jackson bennet
- the grace of kings by ken liu
i dont think she will like an empire of vampire much because there are too many misogynistic jokes or jabs at women that it really pissed me off when i usually ignore those 💀 and like i was so disappointed cuz i read his other series and love them a lot esp the nevernight trilogy
@@erinasarutobi2206 good to know, might avoid it as well!
Oh no about the Stuart Turton book. We agreed on his 1st book now I'm worried I won't like new one . We'll only one way to know. It arrives this week for me
I thought my cats were fighting or getting the zoomies, then i realized the meows were coming out of my earphones :D
It happens to em all the time when I’m editing haha
We just rescued a four week old kitten! My bestie is fostering him, but he’ll bring us up to three too. 😂😂
I enjoyed The Deep too. Just read it this past week. I gave it 4 stars and I agree you definitely can’t binge.
ooh i got the tiger's daughter years and years when you posted it on a haul and it's great! the 3rd book has been on my shelf for years waiting for me to finish the series 😅
I love you’re videos and love seeing the cats
Never to much talk about the cats, I love to hear about and see them.😍😸Also love to hear your toughts about these books 🥰
Hey emily could you post in each video description the lipstick you're wearing. I need to know!!!
For The Bookshop and the barbarian, haven't read it yet myself, but while I can see the author being inspired by Legends&Lattes, Bookshop and the barbarian came out in early early 2023, while Bookshops and Bonedusts came out in late 2023. So they at least weren't inspired by the actual book about a bookshop in L&L series.
I commented on your review of The Witcher so it might make me a hypocrite, but I don't get people who feel the need to argue in the comments because a book they liked didn't get a good rating. I've seen quite a few negative reviews of my favourite books on goodreads, but I don't have the energy or audacity to try and argue with the reviewers that they're wrong and just don't understand.
I don't know how much sway authors have on goodreads because they usually weren't able to get fake books assigned to them removed.
I loved The Deep. I wish it was a little longer though.
Edit: You should get some of those child-safety things for drawers to keep the cats out. Smart cats can be a menace.
😹
My cat completely ignores the TV unless someone watches it. If it's on she would plop herself directly in front of the screen
My cat does the same. How dare we pay attention to something that is not their majestic self!!
That's what she does too! Sits in front of it or starts scratching it 🙄
I totally agree with Good Omens, Hitchhiker's Guide, etc. They just don't click for me, but I like their film/tv adaptations. Not sure if it's just the British remoteness or humour, but then again I like Monty Python and other British tv comedies..
always love your one week, one shelf challenges, but yea, i think extending them to 10 days or whatever would be nice to give yourself more time because a week does go by so fast 😭
also, i only have one cat, but he's about the same age as yours and he kept getting into cupboards too, so i bought a pack of child-safety locks and they're great! (the only bad thing is that, when i first put them on, the style i got let's you open the door like half an inch or so, enough for him to get his paw in there to try and open them. anyway, this caused them to hit the lock and then bounce back into the frame. so for like a week i had to deal with the sound of the cupboards slamming closed over and over until he figured it out haha)
I have so much respect for you because I do not know how you live with three cats. (4 at one point!) 😂 My brother rescued a baby about 6 weeks old from the highway a couple weeks ago and brought her to me. I’m a dog person so I don’t know anything about cats! 😅 It has been the hardest thing ever. She’s cute but my gosh all she wants to do is play and her favorite toy is ME! I have claw marks all over my arms hands and legs. & I’m diabetic so that’s not great. 😅 She also follows me everywhere which is cute, but not so cute when she is climbing my shower curtain while I shower or jumping up on the tub and falling in. 😂 My little house is a two story and doesn’t have doors except for the bedroom door upstairs! So I can’t even shut her out of the bathroom. I’m also ocd and compulsively clean my house and it’s so hard to have her around but the shelter here closed and there would be nowhere to take her so I’m suffering. She’s cute though. 😭🩵
I had to buy thick rubber bands to keep my cabinets closed. They enjoy snapping the rubber bands off from time to time but it does help over all.
My previous cat could smell a rubberband on the table, knock it down, and attempt to eat it. We had to hide them. He never outgrew it. Fortunately my current cats are not obsessed with rubberbands like he was.
@@amyschmelzer6445 My current struggle is dealing with putting together my water fountain several times a day because my polydactyl fur baby enjoys taking it apart. I've been through six or seven fountain water fountains since he always ultimately breaks them. 😭
One of my cats will bite my phone when I am using it and he wants attention or just wants to play with the phone.
I would love a beginning friendly fantasy books video. I am here for the books and cats. 📚🐈⬛
hahah omg you might have to baby proof your cabinets
hiya i love kitten content so funny x im hoping to get 2 kittens soon x
I loved the Akata Witch series, I read it last summer and have video reviews on my channel for them
Try child safety locks on your cupboards to keep out the cats.
For fantasy reads, i'd recommend the elenium trilogy by David Eddings. It's kinda classic, maybe high fantasy (idk genres lol) and I've only read the first one so far, the diamond throne, but i didn't really like fantasy before reading it and it changed my mind. The world building specially, i thought was really good. Also, not gonna lie, might be a little bit boring at the beginning, but it does pick the pace up as you read.
Whenever I see you it makes me want to read immediately…but I want to watch your video. So I compromise and watch your video ✨
Yep, I had my review of Caste removed on Goodreads. It was a long 1 star review so i think it was either the publisher/agent or author who was offended that I thought the comparison of being Black in the USA to caste system in India as wayyy too reductive, especially when the author didnt know anything about Indian history. 💁♀️
Excited for your fantasy series!
That's such a shame that the new Stuart Turton book was boring- I am yet to read it but I got it on my kindle. It's odd that goodreads reported your review.
My best recent fantasy books
-The Witche's Heart by Genevieve Gornichec
-The Midnight Girls by Alicia Jasinska (YA)
-No Gods No Monsters by Cadwell Turnbull (lots of sci‐fi too)
-Taken by the Witch Queen by Luna Fury (smut)
-The Mermaid the Witch and the Sea by Maggie Tokuda-Hall
-A Restless Truth by Freya Marske
Fantasy recs: The Bone Doll's Twin by Lynn Flewelling, An Ember in the Ashes, Iron Widow, Luck in the Shadows by Lynn Flewelling (queer classic fantasy trilogy)
17:24 it's cat ownership, that's what it is 😂
I once read the book “True Crime Addict” which is a memoir, and I wrote as my review “Good book, author seems like a dick” and the author ‘liked’ it 😂😂😂
LOL authors shouldn’t be allowed to look at reviews
@@BookswithEmilyFox Him looking at and liking my review seemed very on brand for him!
You know what would be so fun to see? As you’re doing your final wrap up/outro put that you put three clips/photos of the cats over the screen. So we can get more cat content and you can show us what adorable little monsters they are
Naughty cats are bored cats. You have to have some energetic play sessions with them a few times a day. Get a toy they will chase, or a laser pointer. The behavior will continue because they are young and full of energy, and if the destructive habit is made, they won't stop in old age. You might consider if you can build a catio on a balcony or one of those that pop out of the window so the cats can observe the world better. Also, get child safety latches for the food cabinets.
I think the phrase you were looking for at the start is "fairy tales for adults". As opposed to "adult fairy tales," which to me implies porn.
You should read Spin of Fate by A. A. Vora! It’s fantasy and even though it’s marketed as YA, it really doesn’t read like it. I think you might enjoy it!
I like this series. I don’t care if it’s a week or two weeks. It’s fun to see you get to two or three books on your physical TBR.
Our cats may be assholes, but we love em
Can't live without them!
Your cats might be a bit bored :) you could probably look into some of those food puzzles for cat, it might slow down the their eating speed and entertain them a bit more :)
They have some 😭 we play all the time… hopefully they’ll have less energy one day
Oh no. Hope your week is going better now. You might need to baby proof the cabinets. Lol. Save the poor kitty from himself. Lol.
I ordered some.. how long before they figure them out? 💀
@BookswithEmilyFox my food motivated toddler ripped them apart. Good luck!!!
Hahaha I feel like Clawdia is the smartest and she doesn’t care enough so I might be safe!
Childproof locks for the kitchen cabinets to keep the kittens out??
How is your TV set up? Each of our TVs are either hooked into the wall or on an entertainment center that is tall enough that the cats don't jump on it.
So far it’s not on the wall because I’m afraid they will jump. I have metal studs, so I’m afraid it won’t be solid enough and they will rip it off the wal 😭
There is probably a bot that searched for reviews with links and a really short text block. You should try reposting without a link just as an experiment.
I can’t believe Goodreads removed your review! How ridiculous
Why you stop your UA-cam beauty channel??? And Instagram as well
I've been dealing with a lot of health issues and don't have the energy to do both (the beauty one requires a lot more too). I'm hoping to come back if/when I feel better but it hasn't happened yet :/
Love your dark green top ❤ would love to know where it's from.
I hope your cats grow out of the craziness because mine surely didn’t and she’s 6 now😭 love her to death though
Unbroken!!! Please read it!
C'est excellent!
Iron widow is so fun 😩
Are you a full time UA-camr or do you work too? You don’t owe us anything by telling us, so I respect your privacy if you don’t want to tell us, but I was just curious what your time is like off camera
I won't read Iron Widow. She was very well received here but after the awful comments from the author against my country it's a no, no!
I know you didnt mention it, but if you end up buying a plastic container to keep their treats secure, please make sure it is lockable / not possible for them to open!! I saw a tiktok recently that someone almost lost their kitty because he opened it and got stuck in there and was running out of air :( thankfully he was found in time, but now i feel like warning every cat owner about these containers!!
Oh wow. The treat are luckily in a cupboard out fo reach and I didn’t think I had any plastic bag they could reach… clearly I had forgotten one
@@BookswithEmilyFox yeah they'll always find something even if we think we got everything 😂
I once had an author like my 2 star review of their book. 💀
Omg... it's so petty
Without spoiling why didn’t you like the last murder at the end of the world? I loved the 7 1/2 deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle and I really was looking forward to reading this book. I probably still will at least try it.
It was so incredibly boring. I lost interest before the first half. I wasn’t interested in the characters and even though you get answers, I didn’t find them particularly satisfying. Overall I found even the writing wasn’t great :/
@@BookswithEmilyFox that makes since. I’m sorry you didn’t like it. I hope you find a good book next.
where can i find your Dune review?? i love that book (and my name is jessika haha) but i also love seeing others' opinions.
also, i'm surprised you enjoyed the 7.5 deaths because i heard there was a lot of blatant fatphobia in it pertaining to one of the side characters. i havent read the book for this reason and since you are very picky when it comes to representation i'm wondering if it just wasnt that bad?
love the video!
📚❤️
If your review was left on that book when you got an ARC and not that many other people had reviewed it, it really could have been the author or someone friendly/working with/or stanning them that reported it
Iron Widow is technically YA but it feels like an adult book that they removed the bare minimum to make it ya, it was 5☆ for me!
How did you like the new Bridgerton season?! :)
Honestly… I can’t stand Colin so I’m struggling. Penelope looks great though and I like Francesca’s romance so far.
@@BookswithEmilyFox I couldn't agree more. Love my girl Nicola. Also I like that Cressida is getting more depth.
Yes! Same with Penelope’s sisters!
@@BookswithEmilyFox Omg yes! I found myself looking forward to their scenes!
@@BookswithEmilyFox I kept holding out hope they would change Penelope’s love interest to Eloise!
Did you read bookshops & Bonedust ?
❤❤❤
Good afternoon my dear friend
