    As a 3D Printer enthusiast, I feel I should caution the people watching this from what I know of for these 3D printing accessories.
    Tiko:
    Yes, it's a great price for what seems to be a decent print, but they've cornered themselves like so many other companies, making such a proprietary design, so that their primary target audience will not be able to service it. Custom motors? Yep. Custom Electronics? Check. Custom Extruder? Just as bad as the rest. You REALLY want a good, open source extruder design as this will be the thing that will cause you the most problems with your prints. Now, this still will be a GREAT way to get into 3D printing, and I still appload them for their effort into getting a 3D printer for everyone, but I think their execution should be better.
    The Palette:
    My biggest beef with this one is the price. For the price of this (At Kickstarter), you could buy 6 Tiko's. If I am correct, it has only 3 inputs, so for the price of that device, you can get a 3 Color extruder that’ll be easier to implement in other types of software, as opposed to the Palette’s one plugin for one software.
    The MoonRay:
    SLA Printers… Where do I begin? SLA is an entirely different process than the FDM(Fused Deposition Modeling) printers like the Tiko and Makerbots of the world. Just like the Tiko, this is all proprietary parts, with proprietary software, and limited options. SLA printing is an entirely different beast that much of the consumer 3D printing market has not adopted yet. There is not much support, nor not as many people using it. Also, it’s a safety hazard. Unlike the FDM printers, where it uses a VERY small nozzle to heat up the plastic, which is usually almost impossible to reach with and burnable object, SLA printers use high powered lasers that, without the proper protection, can burn things in your room and even blind you. Usually these printers have protective cases, like the MoonRay’s Green plastic sheath, but there is always somewhere it could go wrong.

    • @MyBrothersMario
      @MyBrothersMario 9 років тому

      thaGkillah Nope, he has the two correct, FDM stands for Fused Deposition Modeling, or in other words, layers of molten plastic being extruded on top of each other to build the object. SLA stands for Stereolithography which uses a laser, or DLP projector to cure a layer of resin underneath the model, or above in the case of the peachy printer

    • @lupusk9productions
      @lupusk9productions 9 років тому +2

      thaGkillah no but he mixed up that MoonRay uses DLP, not a laser. I have never felt in danger with my B9 Creator, ever. The protective case around that and this one are more for protection of the resin from outside UV light.

    Power Bed and Inkjet Head 3D printing is the best, no scafolding as the structure is supported by the powder laid and the inkjet head prints actual colors, meaning the final result after printing is final, the form and the color. Excess powder can be used again.

    Tiko is heading for a delay of some 12-months behind their stated Kickstarter schedule. The eta for initial deliveries was Nov 2015. After many delays they shipped a small batch of 200x to some of the KS backers a few months ago.
    Unfortunately, the recipients reported numerous issues with the printer, which Tiko3D have been seeking to resolve. In the meantime, >16,200 backers (most who gave $179 + $55 shipping and handling) have been waiting for Tiko to produce and deliver the printer they promoted and announced to the world a year and a half ago.
    It should be noted that Tiko3D charged the $55 for shipping back in February - and have only this week said it may be another 3-months before they consider going into manufacture.
    So, anyone viewing this video and finding themselves with an interest in the Tiko printer should really look at other options at this stage. There are many established 3D printers on the market available now and with proven track records - unlike Tiko.

      +Taylor Smith No, and the resin pool becomes contaminated with bits and pieces of crap so you'll need to clean it out (and loose resin in the process). Not to mention that the silicone (or whatever material they use to line the resin tank) wears off over time ~ every 2 liters of resin used; and you'll need a new one

    I see endless possibilities for these printers as a plastic model builder. With a good 3D computer program, printer and later on, a scanner; there are all sorts of things I could make myself that the model companies WON'T produce simply because there's not enough demand for that product. Let's say I want a 1/32nd aircraft support generator as used on flightlines, but they're only available in 1/72nd and 1/48th scale. Buy the 1/48th scale kit, assemble as many parts as you can without the model being entirely assembled. Then scan it, enlarge it on your computer, then print it. I'm sure printing isn't cheap, but use silicone rubber to make a mold of the various parts and then cast everything in resin. I have yet to wear out a rubber mold. Get with other modelers via the net and start swapping programs.The hardest part will be learning to use this equipment and what it's limitations are.

      Have you ever bought a car before? If someone says a car is affordable do you come back and say "What? That's thousands of dollars!"
      Probably not because you need a car to get around. Well, 3D printers allow people to "get around" in a different sense. Most people who would buy an SLA machine and just goofing around. And before these sub 5k machines existed their customers had to hire companies to print that stuff for a lot of money and easily spend a lot more than 3499 a year. And since they can do it themselves its done on their own time and much faster!

    is anyone else having a hard time trying to judge the quality of the moon ray models cause it seems they picked the angles and transitions to make it near impossible the detailed models are shot from further back any model you see close up they show the model first before quickly switching focus to the original item or they show you the model still covered in support material its like they really dont want you taking time to look at there prints

    • @Sarge92

      +KYLE REES finally after watching back through a second time and pausing i get to see the damn print without them moving the camera or changing focus or jump cutting all making it hard to sit and get a close look
      the obsurd part is once you pause the video to do away with there annoying pan shots the models aint half bad
      only model i could actually get a good look at was the head the skelington they left it obscured with support material then panned to the original model on the upper half because aparently comparing the bottom of a model covered in support material to the top half of the original is totally fair

    As someone who owns a 3-D printer there is a word of warning, 3-D printing is hard. Sure 3-D printing has gotten a bit easier but there is still a lot of maintenance to it and I'm incredibly sure that very soon printers are going to become extremely simple to use.

      A first good move would be to make a printer than can print it's own parts. Imagine how printer-users are in a position to innovate their next printer. Innovations can accumulate just like evolution happens and the consumer will be able to produce more and more products at home. Such printer would not only generate better printers but the knowledge to make such improved printer is also more likely to be shared.

      +Mike Difronzo +Corey Williams
      Mike makes a good point. As of right now, it is a matter of hoping that the good-quality materials fall in price. Another way to look at it, as Mike sort of put it, is that the 3D printers will remain at a similar price, but their value will continue to grow higher and higher as microtechnology developed further and further, ultimately leading to a better product for the same price as a lower quality one (hence greater value).

    • @Entreprenoob
      @Entreprenoob 8 років тому

      +Corey Williams they are cheap. Go look on amazon and youll see 3d printers for $300/$400. And the quality for some of them is actually quite good. better than most of the early gen makerbots which at the time costed waaayy more.

    • @Entreprenoob
      @Entreprenoob 8 років тому

      +Corey Williams indeed. they are kits, so you have to build them, but they are actually quite simple and you will learn a huge amount about how the entire process works as you construct your own 3d printer. kits are good if you have a little time to tinker, dont mind building and learning how the electronics work, and you want to save some money in the process, and build volumes are usually higher than proprietary printers. go to reprap.org for more info about some of the kits you may find on amazon.

    As others have mentioned 3499 is not affordable. The computer I had built last year was 1200 which was a nice computer and my car i bought was 2,000 a nice car. which is less then this 3d printer. Both item were major purchases. Affordable is something you would spend less then 1,000 dollars on. I get it there are 3D printers more expensive however I could of bought a 6,000 computer and a 35,000 car too. They just aren't affordable. In relative terms 3D printers aren't affordable to MASS public unless it's under 1,000. Just look at TV purchases these days. 500-600 for a Huge Flat screen which is now AFFORDABLE for most family's to put money together to buy. However most people won't spend more then 1,000 on a TV cause it just isn't AFFORDABLE.

    30% of the top 3 Printers, weren't printers.
    I also find it hard to believe that SLA printers will ever take the place of filament extruder printers. Material options are far too limiting on SLA. And, for 3500$, I'd hardly call that "affordable". Especially when you take into account the cost of the material which is generally two to 3 times more than a filament and the material properties suck. AND the amount of user touch time it takes to clean off excess resin and support structures.
