    Hi Martin, some great advice there especially on the scam emails. Like the idea of a separate current / travel account and topping up as you go keeping it separate from your every day account definitely gonna have to do that next time we travel 😊 glad the ten minute Tuesdays are back 😊 Mark and Debs xxx

    Fabulous advice as usual Martin. We use the Halifax Clarity when we’re travelling and we also find that to be very good. Loved the images and music at the end of the video. Take care. Irvine & Karen.

    Great to see this back and some really good information. I never use HGV lanes for fuel I saw a van have the tank connecting pipe blown off by the extra pressure good tip on the money side though.

    Really good.
    Yes the cash thing in Germany, often the only way to pay for stellplatz, feed EHU meters, buy a loaf of bread…never huge amounts but it adds up and I was always having to get change. France and Belgium you can do pretty much cashless. Denmark has it’s own currency but it’s linked to the Euro so you can often pay in Euros, we got krone out of an ATM and used it for some wool from a Viking Center and a couple of ice creams. Everything else was cash or card. Every town has a flea market at the weekend and Danish people used banking apps on their phones, they didn’t even use cash for an old jumper.

    Some really good advice here Martin, particularly on paying in euros with travel card while in Europe. Hadn't really put much thought into this, but will be making this change from now on!

    Excellent advice as always. If you are using separate CC & DD cards for travel which is sound advice do you then manage domestic account when away just with app and not via online banking even if through a VPN if I am interpret what you are saying ?

    • @NomadicTreks
      @NomadicTreks  8 місяців тому +1

      Hi Stephen yes that's correct although we set up the domestic banking in such a way that it really just needs a light touch, which we do through the app via the VPN. Hope that helps best wishes Helen and Martin

    This may seem a tad too personal to provide a specific answer ! But we are thinking of now retiring and spending 6 months out on the road in Europe, hopefully each year. How different did you find your overall Home Expenditure V Camper Expenditure. Maybe it’s a how long is a piece of string type question !

      Hi , it depends on a number of considerations, which country you travel to , whether you go on a high mileage tour or head to winter base for example where you’re not burning a lot of vehicle fuel. Also whether you are prepared to stay on lower equipped/standard sites or not and what the level of self sufficiency your vehicle has. There are some savings at home when you’re away , your car can be SORN and left in the garage , you will have reduced heating costs but if you travel in the depth of winter you will need some heating at home. That said your metered gas/electricity and water readings will go down , but it depends on your property of course and whether anyone is staying In the home while you’re away .You will have to pay for some site fees and metered power and gas. Generally speaking food bills etc are little smaller, just , when you travel if you’re using the supermarkets , but again it depends on the country you go to. Hope that helps, thanks for watching Helen and Martin .

    Excellent advice. We live in NZ but have spent Xmas in Australia. We noticed widely varying ATM fees so looked around for most competitive fee. Our bank charges conversion fee and a transaction fee on our credit card so need to do some research as we will be heading to UK to collect a van conversion from Vanology. 6 months in UK/Europe each year means it will really add up. Maybe having a UK bank providing a credit card might be a good option?

      Hi thanks very much for watching and commenting . I hope you enjoy your trip to the UK. We have family in Hamilton NZ and although we've not managed to get there yet we're hoping to in the not too distance future. I think you're suggestion is worth looking into , I hope you find a subtle solution. Safe travels and best wishes Helen and Martin
