Why go into back turn stance so often?

Two reasons:
1. He heals himself while in that stance. Even if it's just one point of healing, it can make a difference if it keeps adding up.
2. Bait. Make the opponent rush you down for an attack, thinking you're vulnerable, but you can easily sidestep an attack out of it.
