    Bravo! A good documentary: good balance between personal and trail commentary.
    I have wanted to hike the Sierras for 55 years. I hope I may before the end.

    You should camp at least 100' from water!

    Nice Hike & Video!! I climbed Whitney on my JMT Hike in 2014 & then passed through Crabtree on my 2016 PCT sobo thru-hike & I am now hoping to break away & do this HST trail this year and get back up the Whitney! Looks like you had a good choice of campsites that were at lower elevations up until Guitar lake? Along with a good enjoyable pace! Hoping to do that same. Thanks Again ~Siesta

      @jaymayhikes  2 роки тому

      Thank you! And yes, the campsites we chose allowed for a nice and easy acclimation and neither of us had any issues with alt sickness on the Whitney ascent. I hope you get a chance to do this hike- it’s a good one! Have fun 😎

    That looked like a fun trip...a bit less "high" than I thought it would be. That was one hell of a roll of the dice to pack your pack up the hill when you didn't know that you could exit the portal. The cell service only at the tippy top is even spotty. Do you have any thoughts or aspirations of doing the Sierra High Route (Ropers)? I'm local to your area.....always looking for hiking people.

    • @jaymayhikes
      @jaymayhikes  2 роки тому +1

      Thank you so much! We used our REI half dome 2 plus for this trip. It is a pretty big tent as far as backpacking tents go. I think you’d be fine with your Copper Spur. We did pick some smaller sites, but there were plenty of larger sites available.

      Get the vanilla flavored Breakfast Essentials packets from any grocery store- they are perfect for cereal! Just dump into a bowl or ziploc along with the cereal and add water 👍🏼👍🏼

    Great video! I'm doing Whitney in a few weeks, but San Gorgonio next week, followed by San Jacinto; both before Whitney. These will be my first overnight backpacking trips. Thanks to your video I have started to plan my HST hike next summer. I am very curious about your food situation. Did you take regular dehydrated packs and split them up between zip lock bags?

    • @jaymayhikes
      @jaymayhikes  2 роки тому

      Awesome and good luck! Glad this video was helpful. Prepare to get addicted to backpacking 😆. Gorgonio and San Jac are super fun hikes. We also did Langley a couple weeks prior to the HST. Great warm-up, and harder that Whitney in my opinion! So stoked for you to do the HST next summer- we had such a great time. Regarding food- for this trip we did about half prepackaged dehydrated meals (Mountain House, Backpackers Pantry, etc) and half our own creations portioned out in ziploc freezer bags. Most prepackaged dehydrated meals contain 2 servings so we just share it straight out of the original packaging. A classic meal that we like to make is pad thai (we went through most of the ingredients in the video). Another easy one we do a lot is instant mashed potatoes with real bacon bits. If you are a cereal person, vanilla Breakfast Essentials packets work great for milk- just add water! Happy hiking!
