I have lived in the Netherlands for 18 years, Washington DC for 4 years, and was born and bred in the UK. Our children were brought up here, and I am happy to be a citizen. Road design, infrastructure and quality is superb, and generaly regarded as the best in the world, as is it's transport system overall, including trains, trams, buses, stations, bridges, canals, rivers cycle paths, cycle parking etc. Really has to be experienced to be believed. Most other countries in some ways feel "backward". Slightly over the top that, but couldn't find other words. And for any Americans reading this, it's not "socialism", whatever that's supposed to mean. A thriving private industry is the economic backbone of the country, mixed in with state support where applicable. Tallest people in the world, always near the top in any official statistics regarding well being, which the UK and US are not. Perfect it ain't, but is probably as near as you'll get. Have a nice day. Brian Fenwick.
You could spend at least four days in the area. The city centre, Scheveningen and Delft are both worthy of a day each and 30 minutes away on the tram. Nearby town of Leiden is also a beautiful place and can be easily reached from Den Haag HS or Central station. Obviously tourist information can help you much more.
The Hague is not the capital of The Netherlands and yet The Hague is the location of many Dutch official places and international organizations including the International Court of Justice, and besides, The Hague has many tourist attractions. Consequently, many tourists desire to travel there if they have an opportunity to visit The Netherlands.
The city is ..for dutch standards..very cramped, one thing people will always notice is the amount of cars. The funny thing is, The Hague has the lowest car-ownership per capita of the big 4 but because it is a cramped city it has the highest amount of cars per squarekm. Combine that with the old town and its surrounding neighborhoods that are build for horse n carriage, squeeze in tramlines everywhere and you have a car traffic problem. Its getting a lot better though, for example the street at 3:28 used to be this>> ua-cam.com/video/RrRN8l1-GRI/v-deo.html ;)
worzel yes you can visit the various courts Special court for sierra leone international criminal court international court of justice international criminal tribunal for the former yugoslavia peace palace (outside ICJ)
I noticed that the streets and sidewalks were clean compared to here in Houston. We always have trash and beer cans thrown on the ground by people who don't care about our city's cleanliness.
it's like that in the uk mate, people just don't give a shit and it depresses me! mind you, I've been to the states and I thought it was cleaner that here lol
I'm Dutch, lived in The Hague (area) for 32 years and elsewhere for another 5. Now happily living in Canada, where there are far less bicycles and people riding bikes. The dislike for bicycles was a reason for me to leave Holland. I was one of the very few Dutchies, who did not own or ride a bike, for about 20 years. My wife had 3 for her alone though, so as a family we had the avg amount of bicycles. When this vid was made, I was still living in The Hague area (literally on the edge of The Hague). Seeing this vid brings back memories, which were good (the sights) and bad (all the bicycles). Reason why I dislike bicycles and people riding them: they have soo many rights (special roads where they have right of way; 1000s of kms of bike lanes; every one way for motorized vehicles is a 2-way for bicycles (have you seen how small/narrow the canal streets are? hardly space for a bike and car going the same direction, let alone both ways!); etc. And still, they break every other rule: riding on the sidewalks; dumping their bikes where they see fit (just look at the vid and the covered shopping part, which is located in center of Den Haag, near 'het Binnenhof'); Red light? Stop sign? forget about stopping; riding 3 or 4 abreast and so on. And hey, I'm no saint. done all this myself, earlier. We didnt own a car when I was a kid up to when I was 20, so we rode our bike everywhere. I got hit by a car 4 times/ got 5 bikes stolen (another thing I dislike about bikes)/ tens of times a flat tire and rode a bike DUI, hundreds of times. So basically the last few years in HS I would rather walk to school, than to try and ride my bicycle. This vid shows the sunny side of bicycling. How about the times that it is raining cats and dogs or the wind is blowing so hard you cant go forward. Dutchies still ride their bikes, weather good or weather bad. And you briefly showed the mess of bicycles near the train stations. But this mess is near every station or the HHS (Haagse Hoge School/The Hague University). Let me tell you, there are also a lot of bikes in all of the canals all over The Netherlands. More bikes in the canals or hanging in street lights, than there are bicycles in the USA or Canada. Now living in Canada, in GTA across Toronto, there are more and more bike lanes making its way here. What a waste of space. The number of bicycles using those lanes in pathetic. And they can only be used half of the year, since the other half, it's too cold to ride a bike. Wish they kept those bike lanes in The Netherlands. I got away, now they are haunting after me.

The Hague is awesome, I've been there recently and visited nearly all the places in the video. It was a great experience.
Love the old parts and parks of the city.

All was filmed on a Friday, some in the morning some in the afternoon. I didn't think it was very quiet.
looks like far too many cars and does not look like a relaxing place to cycle

It does look like it was filmed on a quiet afternoon. Normally it is quite a bit busier in most of the places pictured.
Fantastica Den Haag , edifici bellissimi e strade pulite
Yup. Passage starts around 4:02. Think they finished the renovations a while ago.

The hague is a lively and beautiful but there aren't any bookstores besides the abc(American book center)
there are 52 bookstores in The hague.
www.boekenwinkel.nl/den-haag
I checked the list out and a lot of those bookstores aren't there any more
There you have a point. Quality of book stores declined a lot the last twenty years.
