Ollie, please pass my compliments to the crew. A very tidy and gutsy row. If I might, just two points. The first is that the best way to bring up the rate is to ask for three strokes on the catch. This will generally bring up the rate by one to two pips. Then follow it with three strokes on the finish to ensure that this higher rate doesn't result in the crew shortening. My other point is that ten stroke pushes often don't achieve as much as they should because different oarsmen bring the work on at different parts of the stroke. The better way, in my opinion is to ask for three or five strokes on individual parts of the stroke, like "five on the legs in the middle of the power phase" or "three strokes opening the hips on the finish" or "five on the finish." This is a very good way to keep them fresh, especially going up the Green Bank. I was so proud of the crew and the line you took. I have no hesitation about showing this video to people in Australia to show how good BNC rowing is.

From bungline 12 to the finish line is about 1.9km, however boats starting at higher bunglines don’t need to row as far if they row the full length.
