  • From the New York Times-bestselling author of The Gutsy Girl, a funny, inspiring, deeply researched exploration into the science and psychology of the outdoors and our place in it as we age. Caroline Paul discusses her new book Tough Broad and her quest to understand not just how to live a dynamic life in a changing body, but why we must.
Caroline Paul has always filled her life with adventure: From mountain biking in the Bolivian Andes to pitching a tent, mid-blizzard, on Denali, she has never been a stranger to the exhilaration the outdoors can hold. Yet through it all, she has long wondered, Why aren't women, like men, encouraged to keep adventuring into old age?
We will discuss how we can keep our sense of exploration and outdoor adventure can improve our lives as we age.
About Caroline Paul: Caroline is the author of the New York Times bestseller The Gutsy Girl: Escapades for Your Life of Epic Adventure and Lost Cat: A True Story of Love, Desperation, and GPS Technology, which has been translated into fifteen languages. She is also the author of the memoir Fighting Fire, the middle-grade book You Are Mighty: A Guide to Changing the World, and the novel East Wind, Rain. Her TED Talk, “To Raise Brave Girls, Encourage Adventure,” has been viewed over 2 million times. A longtime member of the Writers Grotto, she lives in San Francisco.

I jus loved this event thank you Joanie and Caroline this looked like a really fun event! I can't wait to read your books Caroline and revisit your experiences. When you interviewed peers from my generation early 70's. I've always said this about myself that I am in my element when I am outdoors, being on the water and boating. I jus love being in touch with nature and I enjoy every day of my life living on the first floor of my highrise and seeing nature unfold daily at ground level. The seasons unfold around me in Ontario Canada. I am forever in Living in AWE!

Thank you for this! I am so inspired! Started snowboarding at age 37, trail running late 40's-early 50's, hiking, camping, kayaking mid 50's. Sometimes it is scary, but it makes me feel so alive and childlike fun again!
