Not only worth buying, but the best deal in the FF ecosystem, imo ✌️ Always good to see people shooting street with 85. It's secretly one of the best street lenses!
Just bought my first Sony camera with the a6000 and this video helped me a lot to get more informations about this lens. It sounds fabulous and I already know what will be my Christmas gift :D also your videos are super interesting. +1 subscriber
Hey Ariane! Thats awesome super excited for your photography journey and with a Sony! If you get this lens you will love it! Thank for the nice comment about the videos! Appreciate it! See you around the channel more!
I love this lens! I use it on my A6000 for street so it’s more like a 100mm? I love having the distance for those candid shots as you stated! The field of depth and clarity in this lens blows my mind everytime I use it!
Hey Mitchell, on the A6xxxx series it’s 127.5 mm so closer to the 135mm, which is a focal length I also love on Full frame. I’ve also used the 85 in APCS mode on my a7iv and you’re right. It has great compression and clarity! Thanks for commenting!
Great vid ❤Got me the Sony 35 mm 1.8 oss and learned it is totally wrong for my A7Rii . Looking for a full frame objective and now I think I‘ve found one . Thanks , Michael
Hey Michael! The 85 was my first full Frame lens and still love it! It's perfect in the right situations. Thanks for watching and taking time to leave a comment!
Yes! Goes to show how good it still is. I put it up against the Sigma 85 recently and I’m still blown away at how good the Sony still is for the price! Thanks for your input and time for watching the video. Cheers!
@@MichaelNgvyen it’s kind of insane how sharp it is. As a sony shooter as well as you know there are a plethora of lenses to choose from and I’ve had my eyes on the GM 85. But I just can’t justify spending that extra 1k when I can more Than half for something that produces like it’s a 1k lens. The only Gm I gave is the 24mm 1.4 because that lens is just amazing lol
I am torn between which lens to get. I ordered the Sony A7IV for my first camera. It is expensive but a good investment investment. I mainly need it for vlogging and UA-cam content/some street photography. I can only afford one lens at this time and although the GMasters are the best, they are too expensive. I'm going for either this 85mm or the Viltrox 85mm What lens would you get if you were to have only one? Great video by the way thanks
Honestly. The Sony 85mm is the best value for money and quality in the Sony line up imo. I’ve had it for 5 years and it holds up still. I have no experience with the Viltrox quality wise, but the Viltrox is bigger and heavier so right away its a no for me. The prices are similar. So i would go sony and also take advantage of some of the built in lens compensation features that the A7iv will help the sony lens with. Hope that helps you!
Hey! I mostly use spot or center fix, but also wide. I AF system on the A7iv is quite good at picking the right thing to focus on in wide. Hope that helps. Thanks for the comment! Appreciate it!
Great vid dude - quick q; i have a sony A6400 which doesn't have IS. Would this lens still be okay to purchase without having any image stabilizer? Thanks in advance.
I used own the A6400! The lens will totally work but keep in mind the focal length with be around 130mm. Which is really deep. However you get beautiful images with a lot of depth! In video you just have to be really steady! Hope that helps you Amer! Thanks for watching. See you around the channel!
My very first prime was a 35mm, used it solely for about 2 years. I would say if portraits is your main interest get the 50, but if you want a lens is a bit more versatile to do more then you can go wrong with the 35. Hope that helps you DNL! Thanks for leaving a comment and finding the channel. Cheers
Hi Michael, New subscriber here. I found your video fascinating, as I'm currently doing research on which lens I should purchase (not a having a large budget) to go with my A7 IV - solely for the purpose of shooting a family portrait group photo. (Rather large group to be honest about 16-20members) . I've been reading through the comments about how it'd be hard to have multiple faces all in focus - so I am just hoping you may be able to assist me on this one/ have any recommendations for me as to what lens I should be looking to purchase for this purpose.(?) Thank you in advance. -Josh
Hey Josh. Firstly thanks for subscribing! For the situation you described the most important thing is to make sure you keep your f stop higher, so f5.6 or higher (f8-11 is even more ideal for larger groups )to make sure all the faces are in focus. If you have a lot of room behind you. The 85 is such a great deal since its older but still so sharp and fast auto focus. The look you get for portraits is also stunning but you need a lot of space behind you to get all 20 people in the frame. Another suggestion is the 35 f1.8 the advantage there is, is still great for portraits, and you probably won’t have issues getting enough room behind you. I used to own that lens and it is also very sharp. Hope that helps narrow down some budget friendly options. Also fyi. I have also used the 50 1.8. I dont love it. Not the sharpest and slow autofocus imo. Cheers!
For this specific video. Everything was the 85mm. Except the parts where I’m talking to the camera. Those shots were on the Sony 20mm G. But generally I use those two and now the new Sony 20-70mm
Thank you for your video. when I use the 85mm 1.8 lens on my a7iv and try to 📸 2 or more persons the camara always focus just one face ... any advice on how to focus two faces ? very much appreciated, Regards from Mexico.
Hey Roberto. Thank you for watching. Unfortunately right now Sony’s Face AF will only focus on one face. Even if it detects multiple. And you can’t even really pick which one. The easy way if there is multiple faces, is to hover the center part of the frame over the face you want it to focus on and the face af will choose that face. But to answer your question directly. The only real way to focus on multiple faces is to keep them on the same plane or to bump your aperture. But I’m sure you know that already. I know it’s not much help. Sorry! Hopefully somy can innovate on something for that. Thanks again for the comment. Hope to see you around the channel more!
@@robertor.8008 I just bought the a7 IV and have the same problem like you with the focus if there are more people in the photo. Did you find a solution for this? How did you get more focus if there are 2-3 people in the photo?
