I LOVE Rutabagas! I was never sure which was which with Turnips. What I do before I peel them is run them under VERY hot water to take the wax off. When most of it is off I will add some cold water, but as hot as I can take it and scrub them with a scrubby sponge and soap. That will make them a LOT easier to peel. Wash your sink and sponge out too as soon as you are done. I usually just boil it, add lots of butter, salt, and pepper and mash it all up. I can't wait to try this recipe. I've never seen it made like that. Thanks Miss. Chris!
I just slice off the thick top area & then with a large peeler for heavier peels, peel them horizontally from top to bottom & then cut them up. I think melting the wax first just spreads the wax around, making more work. It sure wouldn't be good to get that wax in your drains!

I love Rutabagas, like you say it’s very hard for me to peel. But I’m gonna try this way. I usually use smoke pigtails or fresh depending on what time I want to eat them. But I love this I’m gonna go today that’s my meal for tomorrow. No extra meat is required like chicken or pork chops. Thank you for sharing
I remember when my aunt used to cook this. I was the only one that would eat rutabaga besides my uncle and her. I’ll eat the cracklings right out of the bag😂😂🤗🤗

Hi! I am new to your channel. I cannot eat potatoes, so Rutabagas are what I eat instead. This sounds like an excellent way to prepare them. I appreciate your thoughtful instructions, and thoroughness.
I remember my Mother cooking those and they were not bad at all. I will have to look for these in the store. Are your seasonings available online? Thanks for sharing your recipe.

Yes! Smoke pigtails are the best seasoning with pigtails. We also add a little sugar to balance the bitterness of the rutabaga.

Your mom may have been using regular turnips. Rutabagas (waxed turnips) are orange.

If so, what? What is your point to bring this up?
