In the video I mistakenly said these were made in Washington…WRONG…they are in fact made in Massachusetts!
Yes, U-Turn is in Woburn, MA, about 2 miles from my home. Their products are all very well designed and they have the reputation of being a solid consumer friendly company. Thank you for your review. I've been using a pair of Pre-Sonus 3.5s on my recording to YT setup which are OK, but these seem a lot better, albeit more expensive. Perhaps I'll ask Santa to bring me a pair... Thx again.
It appears there is no remote control? It would be handy to adjust volume while sat listening, as well as being able to switch inputs from RCA to Aux or Bluetooth!
Made in USA?
My turntable came with a built in preamp but the speakers still sound very quiet at full volume. Any idea how to fix this?
I was unsure of your defence of Crosley, at first, Mr Record-ology, but you won me round to your logic, and I took your recommendation on the Audio Technica LP120X too, which is an incredible piece of kit. Thank you.
From what you can tell over UA-cam, and from your very capable and decent stereo mic, these speakers 'sound' pretty good! A fair amount bass (even though you'd get more bass if they had a wall behind them - maybe around 8-12 inches - along with a clean midrange and nice treble.
They are pretty expensive; which is a little surprising since they probably intend for these to be paired with there very famous 'low cost; good quality' turntables (sadly almost unobtainable in the UK and Europe).
However, they do make a nice match with the turntable, and sound good over Bluetooth as well.
Good video, and nicely demonstrated, along with some neat new arty style shots... ;-)
those sound wonderful, nice a warm very pleasing to the ear...I would say the one nit picking knock is no remote...... They are made just up the road from me here in Mass.......question, why would you still need a preamp if the speakers have a built in amp? thanks
Good question! Yes, you still need a preamp because the speakers are expecting a line level input. Without a preamp, a turntable outputs a lower phono level output… The preamp takes the phono level up to line level.
@@Recordology thanks I appreciate it.
They look cool and reliable. It’s difficult to figure out what the live sound response will be from UA-cam, but from what I heard I kind of understand when you describe them as monitors, being a studio monitor owner myself (a pair ok KRK). Active speakers are increasing in popularity nowadays, mainly for connectivity reasons. I noticed that many of them come with dsp, and some convert audio to digital after the input and then back to analog. It doesn’t seem the case here, which is good because I don’t think that makes a lot of sense if you connect them to analog sources… I have an House of Marley table and an old JVC JL A-20 (that I prefer over the first…😅) both connected to a vintage INKEL preamp, would you suggest them for such an application or would you go for something more?
So, you can't use those with a turntable without a RIAA matching preamp. You would have to use an external preamp, but if those speakers sound good it would be worth it.
Hope you’re doing well my friend I love all your videos much love from this long time subscriber to your channel
Thanks for this review! I’ve been looking everywhere for a good review for the Ethos and i couldn’t find one. You never disappoint! Thank you!
Any idea on where to buy the tall stands or any stands for these speakers? I don’t see it on their website for purchase.
I've been waiting for a review of these speakers since they were first announced. Thanks for being the first (as far as I know) to take a look at them.
I agree with your conclusions. I would add the power switch to things that should be on the front.
I've been waiting for someone to review these! Seems like uturn has hit it out of the park again!
The Ultra-Violet and black looks terrific.
The speakers are too close together to get any real stereo imaging.
Well, they sound good . . . as far as I can tell!
You still need a pre amp with these speakers?
Never used powered speakers before but these seem quite decent on first impression.
These look fantastic! Good to know they were actually made here in the US. I was looking at the pics on their website and they're showing some neat little stands they paired them with but no links to them.
Interesting
What was the music at 13:17? Would love to find the whole track somewhere. The price for the really nice speakers is out of my budget, they do sound well worth the money going by what I'm hearing through my headphones.
it’s called “chillin hard” by kevin MacLeod
appreciate the sound demo
You can never go wrong with a nice set of speakers 😊
Some good quality sound
No remote huh
True
I would not call finding a greeting card in a commercial product package exiting. I mean I'we been abroad.
Thanks for review. Well done. Looks and sound like excellent powered speakers. But, no remote! Deal breaker for me.
