If you ever decide to come back to the UK I would suggest visiting Scotland. Start with Edinburgh for historical things to visit, Glasgow for shopping and food, visiting the Highlands for the scenery and finish off on one of the Scottish Isles.

Londoner here! & you’re right it’s Angel like a winged angel. You definitely want to be near Portobello, it’s properly good, and also I really recommend Goldhawk Road if you want to get some fabric! If you want the proper UK thrift experience go into charity shops & also see if you can find a car boot sale- they’re usually on a Sunday morning, people just bring all the things they don’t need anymore! x

As a Londoner - I would say to stay in the East London area Shoreditch (walking distance to Brick Lane, which is fully of vintage shops) and Spitalfields Market (open all week and have antiques on Thursday). Notting Hill (West London) is nice but not as cool as it used to be, but it's still pretty. East London is hipstery, West London is bougie, North London is ok, South London don't bother. London is easy to get around in because of the Tube (trains) so easy to visit every area. Every area has a great part to see.

    • @Junes.dreams.uk_

Exactly what I was thinking, if you don’t want the fake bougie stuff go East London it’s a lot more fun. (Btw… they don’t do any busking in the US? Or you call it something else maybe?)

Hi Macenna. I know how comforting it is to have Kinsley ride in your lap but it is so dangerous. She would be seriously injured by the airbag if you were in an accident and it deployed. And I don't know if this is accurate but my understanding is that the airbag can deploy in an accident when your going only 30, or 35, miles per hour. My first dog, as an adult, rode on my left leg with her nose pressed against the window and I loved having her there. But when I got my second dog I did research on how to secure her in the car so if there is an accident she isn't injured by the airbag or by being catapulted out of the car or into the dash. We wear seatbelts so it only makes sense to secure our pets too. 💖

Just a heads up when going to London. England has a requirement to fill out a ‘passenger locator form’. It will determine what precautions you will have to take upon entering the country, regarding wether or not you are fully vaccinated for example.
And you probably already know that travelling between European countries will mean a lot of different rules regarding quarantine and such 😅 I really hope things will be a lot easier once March comes around tho, wish you a wonderful trip

    • @TrevMawee
      @TrevMawee 2 роки тому +1

It is also worth noting that the countries making up the UK have different rules. Eg. You may be allowed to do something in London that is not permitted in Edinburgh. There are separate parliaments setting the rules.
A similar thing applies in other European countries, regions have separate rules to each other.

Exciting to know you’ll be in London! You and Romeo will definitely want to head to Brick Lane in East London for vintage shopping, and there’s also a great flea market every weekend at Vinegar Yard near London Bridge. But for proper ‘thrifting’ style shopping, we call them charity shops, which is where you’ll find cheaply priced second hand goods. Most local high streets in London have them (not really in the city centre though) so keep a look out! Fingers crossed your trip can go ahead. Love from London! 🇬🇧

You definitely want to visit Portobello Road! However, if your happy with simple, clean and cheap…there’s Bayswater Inn, roughly £55 to £65 per night within walking distance of Portobello Road…warning food in London is EXPENSIVE! Expect to pay £30 per person per meal, unless you do McDonalds or Burger King..St Paul’s is another good area…we stayed in a Youth Hostel right by the cathedral which surprisingly was clean and convenient..I recommend the Hare and Tortoise in Blackfriars Road, they serve Japanese style food that is fabulous..old Bailey is also in St Paul’s area..I live in Wales, stunningly beautiful land. When we first moved from Utah to Wales I was in absolute awe! I’ve never seen so many colours of green!

Concerning your new allergy to Kilz primer: Isn't it an oil based paint? My coworker is highly allergic to oil based paint and if she smells it she will go into anaphylaxis shock. So it could be that you're allergic to oil based paints. You could experiment with a different oil based paint and see if you have the same reaction. Also, as an adult the more you're around what you're allergic to or newly allergic to the worse your reactions will get.

I used to live near Portobello Road in London and you made the right choice. It's such a cute area and is famous for its pastel-coloured homes and the market. You'll absolutely love it! There are some touristy shops along there but the majority are vintage or independent businesses. It's close to the tube station as well and on the central line which means you can get to Central London very easily. There are also some lovely parks just a short distance away from the area like Holland Park or Hyde Park

Angel (pronounced just like the people with the halo) is located very close to Camden which has a very famous market of vintage and retro clothing - definitely worth a trip. Another market you will hear of is Covent Garden but it is very touristy (and expensive) and more oriented towards trinkets/tchotchkes, arts and crafts, and food, so possibly not what you will be interested in. Antiquing in London isn't great because the stores are quite small and they are very focused on true antiques, not thrift items - remember antique in the European sense is often much older than in US

You will love Notting Hill, and Portobello Rd is a must! I’m from the Uk and lived near London. Currently in the beautiful county of Derbyshire. Hope you really enjoy visiting my country even if just a short stop over. X

It's funny for what you say is cold, for me is a warm winter day. My oldest and I were playing outside for a little bit over the weekend and it was -20 out that day. For us that's just another day. Have fun on your trip!

Kensington is the best place to stay honestly it has a ton of places to check out and a great atmosphere. Ask Mr Carrington here on UA-cam where to find out where the best charity shops are.

MaCenna look into staying in Kensington or Knightsbridge when you come to London! It’s great for access on the tube to all the big tourist spots (Westminster, Big Ben, the London eye etc) and is the area where all the museums are (natural history museum, science museum, Victoria and Albert Museum and the design museum). There’s also Notting Hill which you would love, theres loads of cute coloured houses, a market and plenty of unique independent shops. It’s one of the nicer parts of London, avoid anything that’s on the outskirts of London if you can!

27 degrees one day, 80 the next. Sounds like Melbourne, Australia. Some wise person once said that Melbourne is the one place you can get frost bite on your sunburn. Sounds to me like you can too. 🇦🇺

Portobello Road would be absolutely perfect for you guys. It's not central but knowing you two & what you like to do Notting Hill/ Portobello is the place! Plus you can easily go central from there if you like.

KEEP The BARN! Garage for the car and work studio and maybe asanother follower suggested: your Poppy Shop!? (I know it's Pop Up but you're 1/2 Calfornian now!) You'll need staff to man the B&B cottages so they could run the retail too?

Travel is honestly so not tempting to me at the moment but I think that's because I have needed to travel with covid to my fiance and my latest trip has been an absolute mess. I'd recomment double triple quadruple checking all the covid mandates before the day of. The rules changed for me at midnight when I left so I ended up needing to fly back and do extra tests and fly back again. I am so glad I'll be moving here in the end of the year and I will go by damn ship from now on. (Finland - Sweden travel)

I totally feel the same, I don’t even feel tempted to book any vacations with the state of the world right now, Covid just feels like it has taken the fun out of everything and makes everything stressful with the unknown and closures etc. I’d be scared to waste money going somewhere only for everything to close down or whatever while I was there and have nothing to do 😩😕

For me, it’s the horror stories I hear of people getting sick once they arrive! One travel agent tested positive on her trip, got moved OUT of her oceanfront room and then stuck in a basement room for 10 days. 😵‍💫

One tip for travelling: always tell them in the notes of your booking if it's for your birthday or anniversary or some other special event because sometimes hotels will give you a free upgrade or leave a complementary bottle of wine, cake or snacks as a way to make it extra special for you ❤

I have reactions to that primer as well! Itchy red spots. I’ve heard it somewhat common for really strong products like that (oil based especially!) but I really like the product so I suit up like I’m working with insulation 😅 it helps to treat it like a biohazard hahaha.

Highly recommend airbnb for the UK and Italy. Have been using airbnb almost exclusively for travel in those countries since 2009 and never had a bad experience. Value for money definitely out strip's hotels unless you're plan on staying mostly in the high end/luxe end of the hotel spectrum. We did 3 weeks in september/October in Italy in 2019 from Piedmonte, through Tuscany, Rome and to Sicily and tried to keep the average cost pp per night around $60-70AUD or less. Stayed in some FABULOUS airbnbs (all own place, no sharing with host etc) that allowed us to experience smaller, local areas and villages in a more authentic way. Also vastly more affordable for major cities like Florence and Rome. We had out own stunning appartments/town houses with full kitchen etc in a great neighbourhood vs large hotels that are proximate to major transport hubs but all the restaurants, shops, experiences etc around are pricey and unremarkable.

I’m in Vienna - lots of countries also require you to have a fresh PCR test to enter. You can easily get them but might want to factor that into your budget!
