I remember queueing up outside a record store the day this album came out. I went home after getting it, put the CD in my CD player, and hit shuffle. This was the first song it played. I honestly thought they had put the wrong disk in the box. Then Corey started singinh. My jaw hit the floor. It was so different from pretty much anything I'd heard by them before. This song is still in my top 5 Slipknot songs. It is amazing.
When I see people say they don’t like Vol. 3 I sum it up to a lot of people who were and still are shocked by it considering they had songs like this after listening to Iowa and Self Titled for the previous 5 years. I got into Slipknot much later, and looking at their discography as a whole I think it’s a great album with some amazing songs.

While Slipknot has many great hard hitting aggressive songs that are great at expressing frustration at a level many of us feel this one is still my favorite by the band with my original favorite song being People = Shit. It is a haunting song that can be taken in many ways. For me there is a woman that I have strong feelings for, but I know I can never have her. She is dear to me but I have no right trying to make her mine nor will I attempt too as I know she's where she needs to be and it would be wrong for me to try otherwise. She has her own life and I must and will respect that no matter how much it hurts becasue I care about her, and respect her enough to leave her be. I only hope I can find someone for me till then like the lyrics say "she's a myth I have to believe in". That is what the song is to me. I listened to it on repeat after I finally realized I couldn't have her. My heart broke and this song was the the only thing that could match how I felt so listened to it over and over again. There's an mentality that when you feel angry, sad, and such it's actually a good idea to listen to music that matches that mood. You can then express those emotions healthily through the music rather than letting it fester inside yourself, or hurting others by lashing out emotionally towards others. That is what I did that evening. I grieved, and expressed my pain through this song and I thank it for getting me through a hard time. That is why it is my favorite. I met it at a emotional level becasue I needed it too. This song helped bring me back from the depths of sorrow by gibing myself a place to put it rather than letting it slowly hurt me. I still feel the sting of loneliness from that time, but since then I've never let it swallow me. I didn't let it build up inside of me.

I love this song and part 1 both. While both songs are from the same perspective, I think as many others have said, it could relate to an abusive relationship. Part 1 would the perspective of the abuser. Part 2 would be the perspective of the abused. Part 1 sounds unhinged and chaotic, portraying a need for control in the way I interpret it, and Part 2, being an incredibly beautiful song, sounds sad and tired.
1:10 - shouldn't that be "the song"?
2:16 - "a catch" would make more sense, since "catch" is used as a noun and means a choking or stoppage of the breath or voice.
