Many episodes ago, Gene and Richard were discussing it, and they laughed about Bela Lugosi (or maybe Boris Karloff?) saying that the key to doing that voice right was in "antipasto", that if you could say that word well in that voice, you could keep going. So, since then, they've used that word as a sort of tuning note, the way an orchestra all plays A.
Always was ok in pop culture to take shots at the dominant culture. Just the way it is. Even when it comes to gender. A woman can joke about hitting her husband if he doesn't comply, but the other way around. Oh boy. Not too funny.

I would say just it's just the opposite. This show featured a LOT of African-American contestants for its day, and the panel was no exception.
