Learnt a lot, even though both spoken words and closed captions are, of course, in German. It is obviously the only language the entire world speaks. Thank goodness for my Afrikaans and Dutch skills. Have never heard a violinist play like Maxim Vengerov does - simply magnificent. He is also very kind to everyone and is a true Mensch. This masterclass is a delight. But it’s a pity you don’t supply any kind of translation for those who cannot understand Germanic languages.

37:51 the pianist (unprepared) just whips out the accompaniment for Massenet's Meditation .... that's how you know he's well experienced, he's a true professional!
It's not a difficult piano part, but nevertheless that was quite impressive.

Tbh they're probably already so used to playing it with so many different students that it shouldn't be that hard for them, but still impressive he did it all of a sudden like that indeed.
I am very happy to see that finally someone mentioned the work of the man behind the wheels of the lesson. I just found his attentiveness and readiness to incorporate the right character throughout the lesson to be astonishing, and one could not forget to notice how he changed his playing when entering along with a breath of Mr. Vengarov by his side- chamber music at its best!
Memorization for pianists is a thing too! Remember you're talking about a pianist who, for much of his "upbringing," was probably learning and memorizing Mozart, Scarlatti, and Haydn sonatas as a rate of two or three per week. I agree both of these players are exceptional.
I'd like to hear Maxim hum through entire piece :) He has good voice and he is so very musical.
In all masterclasses he is trying to get students play with more emotion, color and meaning. In short to play more musically

Von Musik hab' ich eh' keine Ahnung, bin aber von der Schrupptechnik und dem Gesang des Prof. Vengerov begeistert, nicht so sehr von Lauras gefrosteter coolness.

@@supawels3627 'Gefrosteter coolness' - das ist ganz unfair! Im Vergleich zu ihm - direkt wie hier - würden die meisten Leute ein bisschen untertrieben klingen. Er ist einzigartig. Aber meiner Meinung nach, sie spielt mit echter Musikalität und Ausdruck.

Übelst gut. 😉 Musst man wirklich so viel üben, um so gut zu spielen?
Ja hahaha… ich denke als Anfänger muss man ungefähr 15 Jahre üben um das spielen zu können 😐🐸
Bearbeitet: Vielleicht schafft man es mit Talent und viel Übung auch in 5-10 Jahren… (ehr 10 🥲)

@@evelinafrose4198 ja, auch wenn es nicht so klingt, aber das ist eines der schwersten Stücke für die Geige. Alles muss stimmen! Dass nicht ein einziger Ton schief sein darf ist offensichtlich, aber es darf nichts kratzen oder quietschen… bis man das als Anfänger drauf hat vergehen Jahre! Die Intonation ist in dem Stück das Schwerste. Alleine der Anfang wo man alleine ohne Begleitung spielt… 🥲 es ist sooo unfassbar schwer das perfekt zu spielen 😐🐸
Um dir mal einen Geschmack vom Klavierpart zu geben, ich habe 12 Jahre Erfahrung und Technik gebraucht, um den Klavierpart wirklich gut zu spielen. Spielen kann man ihn bestimmt auch schon nach 8 Jahren aber wirklich dynamisch korrekt ist die Erdbeere auf dem Sahnehäubchen und braucht seeeehr lange D:

Laura Handler ist großartig!
I don't agree with Maestro Vengerov (11:40) that the tall stick on the piano was "a little too much." It's a sonata for violin and piano (or piano and violin!) and I'm glad the pianist leaned into it. His control is excellent. I didn't feel that the violin was covered, and if there are such moments, then the composer needs to take some of the blame. It's pretty hard to cover a violinist with professional-level tone generation and a good instrument, such as Handler.

For my understanding too many interruptions by teacher, so she is directed to follow the exact style of Vengerov at every couple of notes.
Pupil should not blind copy every single expression of her teacher but be encouraged to develop style of her own.

Excelentes clases magistrales! Pero porque un Alumno adelantado., En camino de ser un Solista., Tiene que tocar su instrumento leyendo la partitura de dicha obra?..Una eminente mente Musical., En una ocasión le omitió a su alumno: "Toca Con La Cabeza no con las manos"..

Aber, gerade habe ich von meinem „Smartphone“ die Empfehlung bekommen, zwecks Kopfhörernutzung in den letzten 7 Tagen, ich solle die Lautstärke senken, die „Lärmbelästigungsgrenze“ sei Überschritten. Was Ist denn los, was passiert mit uns, wem hat man konkret wo ins Gehirn geschissen? … Sorry hatte mir nur in den letzten 7 Tagen mal konsequent die Videos Maxim Vengerov-Masterclass reingezogen.
I like her lack of drama in this, but Maxim tries to make more dramatic. But I guess if you take a lesson from him it's to become more dramatic :)
"Man muss nicht aufgeben hier ..." ... surely "Man darf nicht ..." ? At here's here's someone speaking German I can actually understand! :-)

The pianist should imitate the violinist. When Cortot and Thibeaud played they answered one another. Thibeaud and Casals would imitate each other's sound. That's what is lacking here.
Sorry, but I think Ms Handler needs to memorize this. All the time she is thinking about her relative physical position to the music is time that could have been spent thinking inwardly about the music itself. This superb musician could be a musician for the ages.
