I've known Joe almost 2 decades now, seen the Queers like 17 times....hes a huge inspiration. To be preserving the Beach Boys & Ramones is more than what 90% of bands have done in the past few decades, the quality of his output is beyond underrated. 🎶
The Queers being prominently featured on the punk rock flyers inside the first Rancid albums artwork helped them a lot. Also being on Lookout during the OpIvy / Weasel / Green Day era.
Around 2003 I bought “the queers” punk rock confidential completely on impulse having never heard of the band but the name alone was hilarious, turned I would freakin loved that record front to back it’s great song writing. Never checked out another album tho, I need a recommendation from a fellow fan…
YEAH! The west coast punk scene was VERY violent! In '80-'81 I was a rocker from Texas, long hair, leather jacket, white Capezio jazz shoes, but I liked the punk bands. To make it worse, I had a HOT born in Denmark, raised in L.A. girlfriend. It was VERY difficult to see some of the bands because you had to be tougher than the punks. A lot of the violence was posturing and show, but it could dangerous, too! Texas punk was fun, East coast punk was fun, Bay Area punk was nutty, but safe, but in L.A.... you had to be on your toes!
Great interview! Glad to know Joe and share our tunes together.

I always thought Joe was old, but now he's actually as old as I thought he was when I was a kid
