I really love these ones with Jason. Living in Scotland forestry often appears to be brutal. Machinery in, hill side stripped to the peat of everything and then left bare till the companies decide to plant mass pine plantation again. Fortunately more mixed hardwoods are finally finding their way back to our land and estates are being made to cull deer numbers massively to allow the mixed woodlands time to establish. Jason really shows the knowledge he has and the care it takes to properly manage a site.
Morning everyone hopefully your day going better than mine my wife went to hospital waiting to find out what is going on but saw this was on thanks Chris for posting needed it this morning
@GregPrince-io1cb thanks she was on life support twice last year in February and April just saying prayers for her been married 50 years hopefully things get better about every 3/4 months she goes to hospital thanks for your support my friend
Brings back memories of logging poles for Weyerhaeuser back in the 90’s. Our poles were all Douglas fir and many were 30” plus at the stump and 90 ft long, but some were the size that Jason is cutting. Self loading trucks that could haul 100 ft trees down the highway were used. Weyerhaeuser had their own pole yard where they were graded, sorted and pressure treated to protect against decay. Poles brought a much higher price than logs. Thanks for the memory jog Chris. 😊
One of the many things i enjoy about this channel is the content thats created here is always top notch. The video's i cant relate to or take pointers from to apply in my area....are down right entertaining. Ive applied many things to my process that ive picked up from this channel and others !! Always something going on here thats worth watching. Thanks for well put together content thats not all the same thing on repeat. Take care from upstate NY
I did not think this was possible. I did absolutely nothing while I was mesmerized for two hours, seven minutes and ten seconds while watching this incredible video. Having Jason miced up was a nice touch. Great perspective on all your shots Chris. Does Jason have buddy seats in the cabs. I have never sat still this long in my entire life.
Still amazed at how fast one of these machines can take down a forest😂 Watching this I was thinking, if only all Oak and Cherry grew that straight😂 👍🏻👍🏻GNI
Caught up in our firewood orders finally and the “Polar Vortex” is coming next week so we have switched to the garage and are now building lobster traps for the next two months. Nice to see more of Jason’s operation- he seems to have a niche for smaller jobs. GNI
Chris i wish I didn't live 3 plus hours away from you! You would truly be my new best friend! Between all the firewood and beaver trapping we would hit it off!
His machinery is amazing. I guess there are machines for everything if you can afford them, then you have to work like crazy to make the payments on them. Is Wis. timbered all over or just in the northern half?
Reminds me of over the year at our leased hunt club property. Logging sections of pine and hardwood. I had the opportunity to cut firewood from the tops leftover until industry started chipping hardwood for fuel. No leftovers after that😢.
I just cut down some fat cherries yesterday along with some big ash trees about to try to cut down like 10 more cherry trees today get them all processed
We have had spruce on the mill, each knot it hits as it cuts, you can hear the engine load up. If there ever was a tree worth making wood out of limbs. anywhere around the country, it would be spruce. . 3 36's and 1 40 is about the most I see out of one tree. Plus about 1 foot of trim on each log. That 4th log has to be over 8" to meet the export requirements. They require a average of 36 foot per load. So no sending in a full load of min length 26 footers.
How tall are the sides on your dump trailer? I was looking to buy a 6x12 10k next week and my favorite one has 2.5’ sides which is exactly one loose cord, so I was thinking about just adding maybe a 2x6 or 2x8. I hope it doesn’t feel annoyingly tall, the tailgate might
To be a logger, ine has to have a lot of knowledge to what his customers want !! Once the machine gets to working, the confusion can start!! Stay Hydrated and Have a Safe Day
They are not telephone poles they are Utility Poles. My father and godfather worked for the Edison Company and would always correct me. More than telephone lines hang on those poles.
I suppose so but EVERYONE calls them telephone poles and so does the buyer of the logs so...Kinda like a facial tissue is called a Kleenex here and in the south ALL soda is called a coke regardless of brand or flavor.
Either oil was cold, or cut window is the tolerance for which the computer stops the feed rollers based on the measuring wheel. If the cut window is set for a narrow window it will bounce back and fourth trying to find the pre-selected length
A nice episode Chris, I especially liked Jason doing some play by play on what he was doing and why. Thanks to both of you 👍👍
Thanks!

I'm glad you enjoyed the video, It's interesting to hear how it compares to logging back in the 90s

Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed the video! No buddy seat just enough room to stand crammed in a corner!

Yup, massive carnage and fast!
Hi Chris!!😀😀
I definitely enjoyed today's video.

Caught up in our firewood orders finally and the “Polar Vortex” is coming next week so we have switched to the garage and are now building lobster traps for the next two months. Nice to see more of Jason’s operation- he seems to have a niche for smaller jobs. GNI
Yup, he has a knack for the small jobs!
Fascinating Chris!!! great to see Jason keeping busy!!

Chris i wish I didn't live 3 plus hours away from you! You would truly be my new best friend! Between all the firewood and beaver trapping we would hit it off!
thanks Mike!
Hi Chris very nice video love it that Jason (Ty Ron
Thanks Ron!
She was a long one but a good one 👍 Always good when logger Jason is involved. Impressive equipment 😊 Blown hydraulics in the cold is the worst.
Thanks ...Yeah it is tough when things break down!
Jason jinxed himself so bad. That hose is going to be fun to replace in 0° weather. What a great episode, though. He gets so much work done.
It happens...he said it took 2 hours.
Great and interesting episode 👍👍👍
Thanks!
That machine is absolutely nuts !!! Wow
Yup!!!
Jason is definitely your new best friend 😂
He is a good one....more is the number I am after!
Jason should😁get a small cable skidder for those logs and you could video some cable skidding.👍
I think it is better to not drag them out???
Nice to see the Telephone Poles and Cabinet Logs and Chris wood no delivery fee😊
Yup!
Have to say this was a awesome video! If you can make more videos like this one that would be great! Where in wi was this job at?
That was super cool. Thanks!
Glad you enjoyed it Gord!
It looks like you stayed outside all day with logger Jason in the cold ❄️❄️❄️
Yup, I was warm...I know how to dress for outside and have good gear.
Cool video! Great machine.
Thanks, yup!
Good morning all, time to settle in for a marathon. Thats fine, it freaking cold out this morning...
I'm glad you like it!
Chris, that was a long one today, hopefully you have warmed up by now after filming that for a few hours outside. Stay safe and warm!
It was all day and I was warm...I dressed well.
A "logathon"!!!!!! I love it!!!
Yup!
His machinery is amazing. I guess there are machines for everything if you can afford them, then you have to work like crazy to make the payments on them. Is Wis. timbered all over or just in the northern half?
It's all about the right tool for the job. A lot in the north but the top 1/2 is heavily wooded.
Reminds me of over the year at our leased hunt club property. Logging sections of pine and hardwood. I had the opportunity to cut firewood from the tops leftover until industry started chipping hardwood for fuel. No leftovers after that😢.
Yup, they try to maximize the trees use. Biomass fuel..
I just cut down some fat cherries yesterday along with some big ash trees about to try to cut down like 10 more cherry trees today get them all processed
Nice!!!!

We seem to cut and use a lot of different lengths here for a lot of different uses.
Once the ash is going what will the ash bore will attract next.
I have no idea???
I asked a forester friend that exact question. They don't know either. Will it adapt to new food tree or die off.🤔
That was a whopper of a video!👍👍🪵🇺🇸
Thanks for watching!
I thought lodge pole pine are used for utility poles?
They probably are in your ares if you are out west??? Around here ...red pine.

For a 1/2 ton truck that is the best size trailer...my side with the boards are about 40"???
@InTheWoodyard
Jeff Mosher is the logger around the Langlade area you should do a video on.
Have him get in touch with me at chrisinthewoodyard@gmail.com
Did he say minus 35 degrees, Is that centigrade? How cold does it get over in that place.
Tomorrow and the next few days it is going to be -10F but the wind chill is going to be -35F
@@InTheWoodyardsummer over here in New Zealand. Nice looking setup you have.
Привет из 🇷🇺.
Приятно смотреть когда работают профессионалы 👏👏👏
Thanks for watching!!!
Is that first machine pre set to a length ? Or do you just have to eyeball it
It has a counter on the head he reads in the cab on a computer.
Does the telephone pole company have sites that they replant for future poles ?
I do not know.??...most all the land is private owned or state land and contracted out for cutting here.
Is he eyeballing those cuts or is there a mechanism that measures for him? Because the accuracy is very impressive.
computer measures the distance in the cutting head...
@@GregPrince-io1cb Thanks, I noticed he mentioned the computer resetting with the end cuts, but not until 50 minutes in.
There is a computer counter in the cab.
yup.
yup
That saw chain is big. What size? He knows what he's doing. Chris were you cold?
Most harvester heads run 3/4" chain ...some use .404 and some 10mm. Yup. Nope, I was dressed warm and moving all the time..
OUCH, now I have the day , thanks !!
Thanks for watching!
It’s called a “pi tape” because it automatically divides by 3.14 to convert to diameter
Thanks for the info!!!!
Ok, not sure why, but In The Woodyard is highly addictive.
Thanks for watching Brett!
When he cuts the end off that will give him the right length for each cut.
It resets the counter on the computer.
Chris you were right it’s like a movie. Peace
Yup, thanks!
To be a logger, ine has to have a lot of knowledge to what his customers want !! Once the machine gets to working, the confusion can start!! Stay Hydrated and Have a Safe Day

He moved to Tennessee.

I have 10 Acres I need to start cleaning up the Fallen Etc..
How far is logger from you
about 1 hour
Next trailer should be a beck over
I had a deck over ...not as good of a trailer for heavy loads.
In diameter size how big of a tree can he cut down
About 20”
about 20" or so.
yup
Jason seems to be a one man show. When does he sleep??
He like most loggers work very hard long hours. Not much sleep I would guess!
Fire up the percolator hounds!! Gonna be a great day!!
Thanks for watching!
2 hours !!!!!😅
