Rubbish, you can run a low pressure set up that actually COMPLIMENTS the chassis. Torque from 2.5k and an engine that pulls all the way to the 8600rpm limiter. Brilliant on the road with no stupid wheelspin, just SMOOTH all the way through. I did this to my DC2-R and the car looked completely standard, even had the standard exhaust on it apart from the cast turbo manifold and front pipe. I love the video but disagree completely with that comment.
@@mickl8212 I think its just a general comment about modifying something that was originally great to start with......not saying you cant make it more powerful but are you actually making it any better to drive/handle ?
Yep they are very useable, quite a large boot, 4 seats, cupholders etc yet still really raw and focussed when pushing on. The chassis and engine could take anything you threw at it, proper race car feel which is super rare unless you get a sports car, but then you would lose the practicality.. I put about 50k on mine before I sold it.
No way Sid this was my auntie's car. Shocked to see it on your channel. It was very well looked after, garaged its whole life and not driven hard. 1 owner from new. Absolute fantastic example of a great car. Thanks for the vid mate great review!
S_Imran tbh I have no idea. But she did buy it new from Warrington Honda. We are a family of car enthusiasts, so it is likely she watched Tiff 😂 I didn't even know she had sold it until I seen the thumbnail of Sid's video
VTEC 9000RPM you are right. I didn't even know it was sold. I just said to my cousin I may have bought this if I known it was for sale. I recently sold my civic FK2 type R and really fancy another Honda. Gutted tbh it has been in our family for years. I love this car
They really are great cars. Back in 2005 I really wondered why my mate sold his decent Evo 8 FQ300 for one of these. The first time he took me out on a B-road and really took a few bends and hit V-tec, I completely understood. I think you've done a great review on this car.
I've got one, owned it since 2003 sat in garage in need of a lot of love. Part of my collection of that and an EP3 & FK8. Best car ive ever owned, worlds apart from an EP3 but the FK8 has a similar feel to the DC2 and thats why I bought 1.
Epic review Sid, you are bang on point with the superiority of NA engine, it’s just like fine wine from a private vineyard in France, I compare turbo to the bastardised bottle of plunk from Asda. This Honda Type R is from an era when car makers put in the effort in engine design and craftsmanship.
Spot on Sid ref the comment of ‘threading it’ through the bends. During my ownership I’d have large engined family saloons in my rear view mirrors simply disappear when we hit a series of bends. Absolutely childish I know but if you can drive one with the air box cover off the noise is beyond an M3 CSL. I had a spoon exhaust fitted which amusingly before valve controlled exhausts had an insert for the rear that kept it reasonable when fitted or very sonorous when removed. Thanks for vlogging this & re-kindling old memories. Cheers, Kevin.
Pretty much the best car I've ever owned in terms of having the perfect amount of performance for the UK roads. You can use all of its performance most of the time and you have to work for it. They're brilliant. How good does it feel to have a front torsen diff tightening your line through a corner the harder you push? I'd love another one but nice ones are becoming harder to find.
I have been lucky enough to have owned 2 x UKDM Integra Type R DC2's. A Nighthawk Black one in 2009 and a Champ White one in 2011. I actually sold my Peugeot 306 Rallye to by my first Integra and did not regret it! My First example was totally standard as Honda intended, My Second example had a few Minor upgrades including Full Chassis refresh using Hardrace Bushings, Eibach Springs, 205/50R15 Hankook RS2 Tyres, Fast Road Brake Pads, 4-1 Manifold with JDM Centre Section, Carbon Intake. Superb Cars out of the box and probably the best handling FWD Car I have ever Driven/Owned, You do get out of them what you put in though but that is the whole point. The factory LSD was just magic you could literally steer the Car with Throttle inputs, I never felt like I was pushing things too far and even after 6 Months of owning my first Integra still did things in the Car that amazed me. And that Noise at full chat :D It is good to see the Integra Type R still has a following and to be honest I always knew it would as there was nothing else like it at the time. Nowadays People have much higher expectations and buy Cars which do everything for you, 4WD Hatchbacks with 300BHP and DSG Gearbox's. Sure they are capable Cars and quick but don't reward the Driver in the same way. Not knocking the modern Performance Car offerings by the way.
Great review. 🙂 Not too surprised a woman was the original owner. Given they were a raw, loud and harsh enough car even for the era they were notably popular with the non obviously petrolhead ladies when new. A remarkable number of these I've known had a woman first owner. I remember reading on a US based car forum that their Acura dealers noticed this too. Apparently over there it was more likely to be middle aged women who'd walk past the civics and the like and slap down the cash on an R. Back in the day the second example I ever saw in my neck of the woods(Ireland) was bought by a woman in her 50's. A very respectable suburban secondary school English teacher whose car history would have been; sensible car, sensible car, Integra Type R, sensible car, sensible car. Years later I bumped into her when driving mine and she got all dewy eyed about the memories of her one. Best car she ever owned according to her. 🙂
Sid, I saw you a couple months ago down at Design 911 where I work. Would've loved to show you my EP3 Type R but I was too busy putting orders for Porsche parts through lol.
I drive a N54, but can totally see the N/A response and sound which is lost by turbo charging. I remember the EP3 type R, not that fast on comparison to most turbo cars we have nowadays, but had a fantastic sound and one of the best drivers cars 👌

All naturally aspirated Hondas feel good until driven together with other cars. On public road, those 2L turbos are rocket ship compared to my FN2, and there's absolutely no way I can catch up enough in corners. Plus NA power band is so high up, you have to endure massive noise and harshness to stay there, whereas turbo cars kick off at 3000rpm. No comparison, no harm. That's why this breed of sportscars are obsolete.
On a tight and twisty country road you'd just spend more time braking and building speed in a turbocharged car and lose the handling balance, finesse, banshee scream of the n/a integra. Had a guy years ago try to overtake my Dc2 on such a road in a tuned turbo cupra, and he out braked himself straight into a wall as a 90 degree right-hander approached. He was ok thankfully. Genuinely don't think anything would have come past the Dc2 flat out on that particular tight and twisty country road. Well not without crashing anyway.
Prices of these now really makes me sad because I will never be able to afford one, a few years back you could buy a clean import for 10k, now those are more like £17-20k and rusty UKDM examples are going for £10k.
