- THE MULE HAS A CLASSIC 'PATENT APPLIED FOR' VINTAGE TONE WITH EXCEPTIONALLY BALANCED FREQUENCY RESPONSE AND MORE THAN ENOUGH POWER FOR ALMOST ANY APPLICATION.
The Mule humbuckers are built and voiced as faithful reproductions of the best sounding late '59 PAFs with a differing number of turns of vintage correct 42 AWG plain enamel wire on each coil. The result is outstanding clarity and extended dynamic range. The solid nickel silver baseplate and cover are exact replicas along with the butyrate bobbins, maple spacers, nickel-plated slugs and Fillister no.5 pole screws. Sand cast Alnico IV magnets give The Mule faster response in the bass, fuller mids and better control in the high end. Even at low levels of gain, smooth harmonic feedback which is full of overtones is possible, while clean sounds have depth and unmistakable vintage character. The idea of these pickups is to have a vocal tone that’s expressive and clear, while driving amps commandingly into overdrive when required.

Hendrix is a hoax; a very basic player with zero music theory knowledge. This guy is excellent.
Having said this, this is not a good video at all to make any determination about the pickups. If he did an AB comparison with another guitar, that might be helpful. 🙄

The BE100 in the Helix is easily the best amp, I like to run it in Stereo hard panned left and right with 2 different cabs, one with Greenbacks the other with V30's just like the real thing does, sounds fantastic.

wow i was blessed when music had staled and i was tired of nothing nee then i found buckethead and now Sam Coulsen..Im blown away by what i just heard and feel priveledged and moved by such clean playing. i wonder how many people have judged him and then picks up an axe without anger delivers a pride obliterating bitch slap to their obvious condescending ego. ill probably listen to this several hundred times

Nice tone! I think I do prefer the Les Paul with the Nailbombs (or maybe the Holy Diver/Abraxas, tough call) for your signature riffs but great tone all around here..
Amazing have you done review of the HSS Fralin pickups bridge Pure P. A. F & single coils 54' it would be awesome there arent lots of videos of HSS fralin test out there so if you lack ideas for video here is one pre wired HSS pure paff Fralin with single coils neck and brisge 300K pots caps etc
Hi Sam, amazing playing and tones! How do compare nailbomb neck and mule neck? I currently have alnico nailbomb bridge in my strat and i love it. Do you recommend mule neck or nailbomb neck? My only concern is gain difference between neck and bridge.

Incredible playing and tone! I know it's a subjective thing, but what are your general pickup heights? You're neck and bridge tones are so well balanced... Any pointers on getting the best balance out of a set of Mules?

Sam, great playing dude!! I was looking into the Holy Diver or the Rebel Yells or possibly the Abraxas for my Custom Charvel San Dimas but i see the even the Mules sound good on high gain settings. I loved your video with the Holy Divers but I am not much of shredder, i solo and play lots of rhythm guitar in a cover band of 70's-80's-90's-2000's a bit of bit of 2010's so i need something good for the classic rock stuff to black crowes to Bon Jovi/Def Leppard to Green Day to Fall Out Boy. What do you suggest for a San Dimas dual humbucker guitar?
Θανος Z thanks man! I’ve played a lot of pickups and the mules are my favourite right now. They are super versatile
@Nick I have one with JB's which is not bad and the other with Suhr Doug Aldrich pickups because the JB's weren't doing it for that guitar. The JB's are ok but a bit run of the mill pickups, not as clear/present as i would like them to be which helps cut in the mix in a band setting. I was thinking of trying Seymour's '59/Custom hybrid but i think i will go with Bare Knuckle pickups, they sound better and more quality.
@@kingsammyc : Hey Sam for a Les Paul R7, what you say would be the difference between a set of Mules vs the Riff Raff in the bridge and Mule in the neck? Well its between the Mules, the Abraxas which has a hair more mids and gain and perhaps the Riff Raff pickups as well. I just want to make sure i can cover hard rock with the Mules and not feel like I am missing that extra juice i may need.

Gawd...doesn't anyone demo clean and semi clean sounds anymore? Or play chords? Or record demos without so much overdrive? I don't know whether I'm hearing the pickups or a pedal or a modeler! These are PAF style pickups and the video makes it impossible to know what the Mule pickup actually sounds like. Good playing but how about some chords? That's the beauty of Little Wing the way Hendrix did it.
