Still running my 980 Ti today in 2023. Card is a trooper.
I really liked it tbh. Was a pretty smooth runner and really surprised me.
Which cpu do you use my man?
mine caught fire
Still running mine in 2024, currently on warhammer 3 1440p at medium settings and averages 50fps
Many games from recent years can still be maxed out at 1440p
I'm still using the 980 ti till this day as well
I'm still using my Gigabyte Windforce 980ti that I paid $800 for in 2015. I now have it paired with a 14600K and it handles 1080p games well enough.
I really wanted a 980ti in 2015 but for budget reasons had to settle for a 960 2GB, used that card for almost 6 years till I upgraded to a 3070. Got an EVGA 980ti classified around a year ago for a collection, cleaned and repasted it, tested it and OCed to the max and back than it was still a very capable card, will keep it forever.
Jesus you used a 2gb vram card for 6 fucking years???
@@Tanzu15 yep I did
@@Roman00744 that’s insane. Did you play at like 720p? Cause 2gb wasn’t even enough for 1080p
@@Tanzu15 it was enough for 1080p low, even played CP 77 on it and have a video of me playing on my channel.
Same here
Reminded me Nvidia skipped the 8xx naming, probably avoiding confusion with the old 8800GTX. 980Ti was a dream card but never would have spent so much money! How times have changed!
Yeah crazy how times have changed. I look at these cards now which were insane prices back then and say things like "This was X new, how cheap is that" lol
They only released it for laptops.
Just found your video. Was running a Zotac 980ti AMP! Extreme from 2015 to early this year, was sad to see here go, she was amazing.
That version of the card came with a factory base clock speed of 1253 MHz and a boosted clock speed of 1355 MHz. But my baby ran at like 1400MHz and 1500-1550MHz respectively, out of the box, no fiddling though MSI Afterburner.
Had to slowly lower the core and memory clock speed gradually over the last few years as it would crash randomly. Got myself a 4070 TiS, unfortunately i rushed in without considering how hard my i7 6700 would bottleneck it.
Her wings are clipped so bad, i swear i haven't seen her above 30 usage lmao.
Building my little boy his first gaming pc... Hes running a 980ti water cooled set up. Gives me hope for him. My little girl has a 1050ti. For the games they play its just right 👍.
Only stumbled upon this video now and I'm still using my 980Ti I bought all these years ago. But I think an important thing to consider about how it performs is that it was released alongside the last generation consoles and a lot of games being released on both platforms means that they have to function on the console hardware from 9-10 years ago as well which helps the 980Ti stand the test of time.
Native CRT support needs mentioning.
You don't recommend getting one now 11:48, and could get something much better for similar price; but left us hanging. What should I look for instead??
1080ti for whatever 150-200AUD translates to for you, 11gb card with high cuda count for that price is a steal.
Me who watched this as I was talking with a guy to buy this exact card. I like to play games casually and my budget doesn’t allow me to complain about graphics quality. I look for minimum requirements in games, and I’m usually happy if the game doesn’t crash. My fav game to play is MotoGP 20, and my card now is a GTX 770. It runs at about idk, 40 something fps at 1080p, everything lowest except for anti-aliasing at max. shadows? Non-existent. And the game occasionally crashes due to insufficient VRAM. It could also run NASCAR Heat 5 if you really wanted to play.
Respect that your getting every last bit of life out of older cards but come on man surely someone can hook you up with something more serviceable than a 7 series card.. you deserve it at this point
One of the greatest strength of the 980 ti is it's overclocking headroom. You could probably get a significant boost to fps numbers with a good OC
I like this format where you shoot for 60fps and show a little extra game play. Somewhat ironic that AMD FSR is the true MVP for GTX owners.
Bought my MSI 980ti brand new and still running it today in my main pc.
That's awesome!
Currently rocking my GTX 980ti which I've had from new. Just backed out of purchasing an AMD RX 7800XT and this video makes me feel much better about doing so.
Love this card. 8 years since its release, and I can still run many new titles on high-medium settings.
I mean it's still surprisingly good, but the 7800 xt would be a night and day difference.
A load of BS
I'm not surprised it still holds up respectably at 1440p. That was always the cards strongsuit even from launch. I have a side build sitting around with my old 980ti in case something awful should happen to my main rig. I'd be perfectly happy playing games on it again as a fallback.
I picked up a 980ti for 40$ and its running chugging along greatly. I mainly game on an Asus Rog Ally when im not on the desktop
Yes, it is. Thanks to FSR and FSR FG (TY, AMD) it`s still alive and feels good at the highest settings in many games.
And it still can do 60 FPS at LOW/MED in upcoming "heavy" games.
Just went from a 980 non ti to a used 2080 ti, that card was definitely useable for the next few years for lighter competitive games. I think it’s perfect for a budget card
I bought an GTX 980 Ti EVGA ACX 2.0 edition in late 2018 for I think $180 USA off a local offerup listing, paired with 16gb Ram and Ryzen 2600 paired with a 1080p 60hz monitor, absolutely beast still of a card in 2019 and only reason why I upgraded is cause I bought a 1080p 165hz monitor early 2020 and I wanted higher fps but otherwise 1080p 60fps ultra settings was still very doable on that card into 2020
Just stumbled across your channel today - great video as well as the 780 Ti video. I’ve owned approx 8 different 980 Ti’s I loved them cards and have a classified sat on the shelf damaged :( - appreciate the stock run though Seeing a 980 Ti run at less than 1.2ghz is painful, my old Gigabyte Extreme waterforce would run at 1550mhz and 8ghz on the memory which I’m sure would run a lot of games at 1440p high still today. Great card. Great video!
Thanks and welcome :) Sounds like you have had an amazing history with them, shame about the damaged one, they are supposed to be real nice.
These are extremely impressive results m8. although i dont think anyones going be pairing a 980ti with i7 12700k and 32gb ddr4 ram lol.
I personally picked one of these cards for £20 on ebay allbeit it comes with no shroud and i gotta pickup a replacement fan should pair well with my i7 3770 and 16gb ddr3
Thanks. You wouldn't believe what combinations some people pair together lol Although in our case the 12700K is just our test system to make sure you see the full potential of the GPUs.
@@TechLabUK haha lol makes sense this is a great benchmark m8
depending on game, the 980ti is hitting its peak too, i can occasionally get 40 frames on Ark SA, i can JUST run 360 emulation, but to call it smooth or enjoyable would be a stretch. i'd say at this point its the 1080ti or bust, and that's only because of its incredible cuda count, it wipes the whole 16 series with its behind on that front, tho i'm sure the 16 series has something else from later tech that keeps it comparable, still, i'd go 1080ti or jump straight to the 30 or maybe even 50 series.
In Spain you can buy it by 75€uros, one of the best buys to make a cheap computer to play it.
Have you changed the paste? I run 2 780gtx in sli, on my windows 7 machine, they are a beast when paired, and eats games from 2000 to 2010s, in near silence at x64sli aa.
No, will definitely give that a go, thanks :)
@@TechLabUK never run a card older than five years without changing the paste, your paste is dry, I use gold thermal grease HY610, this stuff is really, really conducive, so you only need a tiny amount, it has long term effectiveness, but be careful with application as if you get it on you fingers and start touching boards, it’ll be making shorts. Change that paste, then play need for speed most wanted on it. It is a great card, just know it’s limits is best suited as a windows 7 rig.
my 2 are in an Asus x58 Sabretooth build, Xeon W3690, 6 cores, 12 Threads 3.45ghz, has 12 gb Corsair XMS 3 DDR3 1600mhz, in Triple Channel across 6 banks of 2gb sticks, the cpu is liquid cooled but only to run the rig in near silence. Change the paste 👍
Just messaged to pick one up for £60, I only play it games really. It suits my needs, it's fine for 1440p older games
Having had a 980 ti I can say that performance-wise think 1660 super performance, they test very closely also.
Great card for witcher 3.
But power efficiency is a concern at 250 watts. For £50 a cheep Chinese 4060 is a better option.
I am using it with my i5-9600k I don’t know why but my graphics cards ideal temp is 60+ most of the time i have to run fan on max speed then it stays okay any solutions please???
These are very hot cards and being a blower style even worse. You cold try undervolting it or changing the cooler on it.
I bought a seocnd hand PNY 980 ti in 2015, and it provided a great experience till I replaced it for a RTX 2080 ti, because I wanted to try ray tracing.
But I must say that this GTX 980 ti was awesome!!!
Great little cards still.
but will ir run counter strike 2 with ease ? still didnt try it yet ..i7 6700 36 gb 980ti
I want another one to bridge too
60 fps for cyberpunk 2077 on medium preset @1440p
Me looking at my PC with an almost dead AsusRog 770 2Gb.... I'll take the 980ti😊
Just found a water cooled one for 45 on Facebook might get it and might build a pc for a friend with it
Just recently got the EVGA hybrid water cooled 980ti. Gonna run it on a CRT Samsung syncmaster 1100df 😎. Reply if someone wants an update on how it goes.
Sounds awesome tbh
yeal , please let us know how it went
Great card! I got one in 2015 and it still runs most new games at low settings. I'm upgrading to a 4070 so it'll be interesting to compare.
My 980ti has done a good job for Cyberpunk and Baldurs Gate, as well as Valheim and Satisfactory. Still using it, although it might be finally time to upgrade. Amazing value i've gotten out of this card.
It's had a good life then.
really? u serious ? you think itll run CS2 with ease _ on i7 6700
What will happen if you mix it with a Ryzen 9 or Intel I9, you’ll be able to play games or you’ll have such bottleneck that you’ll not be able to do anything?
Depends which R9 / i9 but generally you will see a bottle neck on the CPU, the GPU should be able to get to it's full performance though but then you are leaving a bit of CPU on the table.
Thanks FSR
lol, still gaming on the LAPTOP 970m, no prob, Baldure's Gates 3, Phantom Liberty, even Startfield
i dit buy today one a 980ti evga ftw for my retro overkill pc
I had the exact gpu and I used it as my first 4k graphics card.
To be fair, with it's results on these new releases I would suspect on older games it would 4k nicely.
@@TechLabUK When I first got it I was gaming on a Dell 720p widescreen 23 tv/monitor. Then upgraded to a Samsung 40in tv. Then a year later I bought a Wasabi Mango Uhd400 4K 60hz. The 980ti ran most games decently at 4K low to medium settings. I upgraded shortly after to a 1080ti and that’s when 4K became butterfly smooth for me. The 1080ti was one of my favorite GPUs of all time. It treated me right that was until cyberpunk 2077 came out and was only getting 15-20 fps and knew it was time to upgrade again.
I started with a GTX 650 in 2012 the. I got to GTX 980 in 2014 and I gone to RX6900 XT in 2022
I wish we see review of the GTX 980 in 2024 I wonder how my old gem handle currently
Can someone help why is mine so bad, it gets low fps on fortnite when i have i5 10400f
I think I need more details. What is your exact pc spec? What settings do you use at what resolution? Did you remove the cover from your cpu cooler? The list will never end in my book. It's nearly impossible to help someone via a diagnosis without physically engaging with the actual problem. I wish I could help
The biggest upgrade with Maxwell has to be the beefier (for the time) memory configs. Also the fact that they have proper DX12 support too, unlike their Kepler predecessors. Nice video as always mate!
Ye as OP mentioned there are better cards with newer tech for the same moni. gtx 1660ti is one of them, about the same perf but 4 years younger. buying geriatric card like 980ti is risky as it is possible previous owner never replaced thermal paste / pads so temps will be high which makes its more likely to fail on you. on the other hand, 1660ti was born into mining craze so there's that.
I have one of these bad boys in my guest pc for games like killingfloor2
The 980 was a workhorse. It served me well until I upgraded to a 4090.
Damn lmao
Bro saw nirvana with that upgrade
I ran 780ti’s in sli for years but they died together R.I.P 😢 they will still post however but when In game the artifacting is horrible and it eventually leads to a crash. All that aside I now run a RTX 3070 and besides Sli is a art that is no longer…
Arr man that's a shame, great cards to play with and have on a shelf. Shame about SLi as well, such a cool thing to do.
still using my 980ti for gaming as the 12GB of the 4070 is a real shame!!!
Hypocrite
lol i have a 980 ti in my older pc atm and it works fine for older games, can even play few modern games on low
can run cyberpunk 2077 @60fps @1440p with medium preset - still a beast
Overclock 980 ti and it'll performs even better
One of the great nVidia cards!
Actually wondering what system I have to drop this in to play some games tbh. Was really nice to use.
only 9 years old it already at the bottom in 2015 that gtx 980ti they call it king killer because 980ti can beat with GTX TITAN that is very powerful and very expensive graphic on market while 980ti much cheaper and powerful that time now it just legend of king killer their no graphic card get that title now day
A fellow ebay’er
Ebay for the win! Although I rarely win anything when bidding lol
it seems to be better than a gtx 1070 in some games
I believe the 980Ti and 1070 are about the same in terms of performance.
funny how starfield the worst looking game on the list couldnt run at 60fps. Just shows you how badly optimized it is
can i have rx 570 pls?
I don't have an RX 570 at the moment. Will keep my eyes open for one though.
